Zepp-4-Life
I thought this would be a good venue for opinions on some of the material I've written and recorded over the years. I play guitar , sing and write my own brand of music and have been a musician now for close to 25 years. Here's my first offering. Song - Nature's Call This was written for a friend that sadly departed from a tragic accident at a young age. We were childhood friends for many years and after his demise this song just oozed out of my soul on a cheap acoustic I had with me on a beach sitting by a fire . I still believe that his spirit came to me on that special evening. Later , I bought a 12 string and started working on the sound I wanted . A Fender Strat was used for all electric guitar parts and I had a great bass player with me named Vick , drummer Dave , keyboards by the engineer of it all Neil. All good friends. By the time I booked the studio time I had the song fully structured and was ready to record. The lyrics were written , and I was using a new sound for my voice at that time. During the end of the song , I was drawn in to a semi RP sound a like , very NQ ish if I may say and it was all on the spot and not rehearsed. There's something about a 5K microphone , full effects and a good buzz that just happens sometimes --- lol. If you listen carefully you will hear the sound of swishing water during the intro. What a story . We went to my cottage to capture the sound of my lake that me and my friend had grown up on. I was wanting that typical shoreline swish and had brought some recording gear to get it. Well , wouldn't you know that for the three days we stayed , that lake didn't budge , ripple or move one bit . A sheet of watery glass the whole time. Eventually I realized that another technique would have to be used to get the sound of that water. On the last day of our time there , along came , and get this , the father of my deceased friend just strolling along the dirt road heading our way . I hadn't seen him in a few years. Here I was trying to record the lake for a song about his son , and he appears. What's cool is that we asked him to be the creator of the water sound . The plan was to go to the end of his dock , use a canoe paddle and make the watery swish. There we were , microphone in hand and my friend's Dad canoe paddling on the end of the very dock that I had played on as a child . It was quite surreal. I know , long story as usual here , but what else is there to always read around here. Some days are slow on the news frontier ---- lol. The song is down loadable at this site : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WXI9G4TP I'm still not entirely sure about this measure of file sharing and learning. If anyone can suggest a better method of MP3 listening please advise. I hope you enjoy the song . beatbo
i really like this song, Z4L. good production, as a matter of fact, your production played like an additional instrument. i had a hard time making out all the lyrics but i like that some times-bears for repeated listenings. vocals sounded great and yes, a little plantish. good bass/rythym section. i love the break at 2:15 and the last part of the first guitar solo, especially. (flurry at 3:18). guitars all around are well played and sound awesome. i don't want to ruin a listen for anybody else, so....very well done! I'm surprised you found the vocals difficult to distinguish , that's a first I've heard of that. I'm glad you enjoyed the guitar playing , the middle section with the lead was worked on for weeks prior to the recording session. I had also written a slide guitar portion but when it was added we thought it became a little too busy sounding. We went for simple . And another thanks for the Plantish agreement --- cool. Well, that's one listener . Jeeeez, what's a guy gotta do around here . Rock n Roll Edited September 18, 2008 by Zepp-4-Life

Zepp-4-Life
hey jeff...link said the file was not accessible... I was worried that because it's a free storage site , perhaps the files are temporary , but now it appears that things are ok. I've seen some methods of sharing mp3's that are better then actually having to download the file just to hear it. Does anyone know of a good way to share a song without having to load the file ?? Thanks

Rock n Roll nah, vocals are fine, the lyrics were hard to make out in spots, but some of the best songs ever can be hard to catch all the lyrics, too, so no worries.
