Culture..you got that right my friend ! After the experience we had 18 yrs ago with my oldest son, I pulled him out and wouldn't let my younger son anywhere near it. The parents ( their kid was gonna be the next Bobby Orr ) attitudes were bad enough but what really got me was the coaching. Not just my sons coach but all of the coaches in the organization. Telling 7yr old kids to lay the lumber on another 7 yr old kid and teaching them how to do it just didn't go over well with me. Coaches tearing the kids a new one if they didn't do it ..was a step too far . IMHO, not only are the young kids being over coached but they are being poorly coached and when you add that up with the costs and hours involved.... toxic.

BTW, both my sons went on to play football and rugby where they learned how to hit and take a hit without any coach teaching them how or telling them to deliberately take out an opponent. The parents were pretty cool too !

"Football (soccer) is a game played by gentlemen and watched by thugs while rugby is game played by thugs and watched by gentlemen".

Never believed it but that was the old saying.

Of course I have no idea what any of this has to do with Canada but.............

Well, cricket has got an ugly side to it too (it ain't as "gentlemanly" as it looks!) what with all the sledging and glaring tactics which teams use (especially while bowling) to get the batsman all furious and worked up and hence screw-up! But who's complaining? Makes the game very interesting, especially when you are trying to read the bowler's lips, trying to figure out whether he indeed used the "f" word! I love sledging! :P

Well, I know that I am off topic but I was just pointing out that Cricket is not as "sissy" as some folks here have pointed it out to be! :whistling:

I don't watch Wrestling, although the Wrestlers are for real they play to the minds of children and women, so its not a MAN'S GAME like Rugby.

Rugby isn't ridiculous like you say it is, but just like a Yankee anything you can't play or win at you Ridicule, now you stick to your World Series with no one else involved and as always America will win, or Canada if you let them take part. :o

I do like your Grid Iron though, but its stops and starts more times than a knackered vehicle that I think Rugby has its beating. Union rather than League, Union is so much more watchable as it doesn't keep stopping, it takes a REAL MAN to play it as well, all that padding and head protection in the American Game means sissies can hide in amongst the men and ruin what is in-fact a very fairly played and refereed game.

The fact that you think that Rugby Union is played by Morons and is Accident Prone says a lot for you Ignorance and Arrogance, which you Americans inherit from your French and German Ancestry, as well as your Insidious Nastiness from the Spanish/Mexican/Hispanics Types and your love of Greed from your Italian Ancestry, and lets not forget your Inappropriate Love Affair with Porn from your Scandinavian Lineage. Your British Fair Play Inheritance and The Redskins Knowledge of all things Human seem to have been overlooked in your Character, shame, you could have been a Noble People but for that. ;)

I have never seen such mass chaos and unorganized nonsense! Myself, I am a mungrel like most americans. Mostly English on my mother's side and German on my biological father's. Not Italian though my late step father who I lived with was pure sicilian. I dont know that porn is any bigger here than anywhere but what the hell does it have to do with rubgy? I have some Canadian relatives, I was recently contacted by a 6th cousin whose grandfather emigrated there before WW1 and never kept in touch, and she traced our family back to 1725 in Norwich Norfolk, a nice lady.

The more different blood the merrier I say, the better the cuisine for a start hey? :lol:

I have relatives in Canada also though I have not seen them in a long time. I do not know much about England as a whole as I have never been there. I am English on my mother's side as her maiden name is Bradbury. Related to the science fiction writer somehow. probably have a small bit of Irish and I know some French though I hate to admit it. In this town if you are not Italian you probably have a good amount of German ancestory. I even like soccer which is the biggest sport in your country by far. Most of the americans I know cant watch it. I can. I love the world cup. But it took another big step backwards here with that recent vote giving that Arabian country the event. Dumb move for sure. Financially and for the sport as a whole. I wish I could cross the pond and check out London someday. But its not that high on my wife's travel list. I am working on it though. Cheers as you say over therre!

Thats a shame. I would have thought that London should be high on everyone's travel list if they haven't been there. It's one of the great destinations in the world and totally unique.

It's like New York and Paris. I still look at people funny if they tell me they have no interest in visiting New York.

London, New York, Paris. Maybe Rome. These cities are MUSTS if you haven't been to them.

I agree except it seems Paris has lost some of its luster in recent years with all of the trouble. I dont know if I would care to go there now. London yes, for sure. Rome, not me. I would love to see some of the historic art works there but I do not desire to see the city.

Question for my brother's and sister's in Ontario. We are going to have a referendum in BC on the HST. Do any of you feel that the HST has had a negative or positive effect on the Ontario economy ? I ask because I'm trying to cut through the political BS and get to the truth. All opinions welcome
