The 1977 Tour Revisited

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

We're starting up a very special show that will hopefully tour a bit more around the country than what we've been able to do so far. As I actually got to see this tour myself, this is especially near & dear to me. Those in Southern CA, I hope you can make one of our initial 2 shows.

1977revisited.jpg

On April 1, 1977, Led Zeppelin embarked on their biggest tour yet of the United States, setting attendance records and quickly becoming the hottest ticket of the year. Their show in Pontiac, Michigan, played to an astounding 76,229 people, beating their own record of 56,800 for the biggest ever attendance for a single act, that they set in 1973! A total of 44 dates were played, including massive 6-night runs at New York’s Madison Square Garden and the Forum in Los Angeles. The tour came to a tragic end in July after the death of Robert Plant’s 5 year old son, and the remainder of the shows were cancelled. It would be the last US performances the band would ever play.

Now Led Zepagain brings Led Zeppelin’s 1977 United States of America Tour to the stage once again! The complete set list, equipment and costumes are re-created in spectacular detail, giving concert-goers of all ages the chance to re-live those amazing shows! All the greatest hits, from Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir and Rock & Roll, as well as fan favorites like Since I’ve Been Loving You, Ten Years Gone and Achilles Last Stand are performed exactly as Led Zeppelin did them 30 years ago! In addition to the music, Led Zepagain features stage effects of the 1977 shows such as lasers and fog, plus updated lighting, video screens and more to create a complete multi-media experience.

First 2 dates:

Oct 17 - House of Blues - San Diego, CA

Nov 22 - Oceanview Pavilion - Port Hueneme, CA

There will be more of these to come!

Our complete schedule, as always, at ZEPAGAIN.COM

Wow- this sounds great! I would love to see this, but I guess New York is a little bit out of the way for you guys. :(

That would be a prime event if your band could come and do a show or two in the NYC area. I'd certainly be there. Especially, now with the 1977 tour theme on these set of gigs. A friend of mine saw your band in San Diego last year and was very impressed. He said it was a Zeppelin recreation but with it's own identity. I've seen many of the YouTube videos of your performances and you can really hit it. Keep it up.

Thanks, guys! With a little luck, we'll be able to make it out to the east coast next year, keep your fingers crossed... Dave, hope your friend can make it to our SD show this Fri! Glad he liked the one he saw. B)

Thanks for the info Steve. I just hope to see you guys next year here. Looking very much forward to it. Actually, my friend is from NYC and happened to be out in SD on business and he heard you were playing and caught the show. Best of luck.

Steve, the new show sounds exciting....how long do you think you'll be doing 1977 revisited? I won't be able to make SD this Friday but I hope to catch it soon.

And it seems EVERYONE wants to see you guys.........maybe you should take this show nationwide? Is it possible? :D

Good Luck and hope to see you soon!!! B)

Thanks a bunch, and yes, there will be more shows, for quite a while. We will still be doing "regular" type shows in the smaller venues, as this one needs the larger ones for the projection screen, laser, etc.

As for "Any chance of playing in xxxxx?" The answer is (in my best politician voice), "Nothing is off the table!" We are working on getting this show out to wherever we can, and that would definitely include Vancouver, NY, and anywhere else! :D

I saw the show last night at the San Diego House of Blues. It was great! I missed out on seeing LZ in '77, but I have a bootleg of one of the LA Forum '77 shows and you guys nailed it!

No Over The Hills And Far Away, though? Time constraints, perhaps? Well, it was a kick-ass show and the audience loved it.

Everyone should go see this!!

Will the Doctor be in the house?

How about Badgeholders? Were do they stand?

Will the replica of Jimmy Page be strung out?

The list of revisted excitement is too much for ones brain to handle

Thank you so much!! We really had a blast doing that show, glad you enjoyed it! We didn't do Over The Hills this time, as it was only played towards the end of the tour, as a replacement for 'In My Time of Dying,' which we did play. At the LA Forum shows, they alternated those ones each night.

SuperDave, no Stonehenge backdrop! :D Even though I was actually at the Oakland show where that was used! But our singer did wear his "Nurses Do It Better" shirt. BTW, that backdrop gets unfairly credited to Zep, it was actually put up by Bill Graham Presents, they would do different custom stage backdrops for every big summer stadium show.

tom kid, I just did the bow solo, not the whole 'noise' solo & Star Spangled Banner. And our 'No Quarter' is probably about 10 minutes. We really didn't want to get too much into the extended improv's that they did, as it would really make the show too long. It clocked in at about 2 hours 45 minutes as it was! And New Zealand, well, would love to, but we'll see how it goes!

I'll post some pictures when I get 'em, we had a friend shooting it for us.

Hi all, I just found this Forum and wanted to reply to this. I am in L.A. now and will go to the Nov. 22nd show. I was brought up in NYC and was lucky enough to go to 3 of the 6 eventsat Madison Square Garden in 1977. It was epic, a true religious experience, especially my second showing when I got a seat 15 feet from the stage. I was a freakin' maniac. Zep lined their stools ina row and I knew from the previous show they were going to do acoustical starting with "Battle of Evermore".

Robert Plant started to anounce the song and I jump out of my seat in my black with multi-colored lettered Led Zeppelin shirt and sream on the top of my lungs "Battle of Evermore", it was quiet because everyone was listening to the intro and Plant just stops and says "Someboby here has seen the show", well I jump up and start screaming "Yeah it's me, me" like a lunitic. Plant looks at me and laughs, calls over John Paul Jones who was close by, whispers something in his ear and point at me. John Paul looks at me, breaks a big smile, then a laugh and wave. I tell ya for a 19 year old kid seeing his idols, and them doing that I was blown away and never forgot it to this day.

Great story, Ron! I was luck and got to see them in 1977 too, at the first Oakland show, but wasn't close enough for them to hear me! But I did get to tell Jimmy I saw that show, when he came to see us in 2004, and see his eyes light up as he said, "Those were some wild times back then!" B)

And thanks, hope you enjoy the show on the 22nd! That's not one of our 1977 shows, but we will be doing the entire Led Zep IV album, as part of our set, and then Which One's Pink will be doing the complete Dark Side of the Moon. We'll be borrowing their "Great Gig in the Sky" singer to do Battle of Evermore with us, so it should be a really cool night!

On another note, we recently did a show with 5 tribute bands for ABC TV, which will be shown soon on Good Morning America. I'll post the details as soon as we find out when. Here's a shot of me from that event, in my new 1977 Jimmy suit! Check out the complete gallery of pics of all the bands at DIRKBAG.COM

Here are 2 videos from our San Diego show. It's just a static long shot, as that's all that the HoB would clear, but you can get an idea of what it was like.

ACHILLES LAST STAND

BOW SOLO

And yeah, I messed up and didn't have my delay pedal on that first "hit" on the bow solo! Oh well...
