Open letter to Robert

Jesus. :wtf:

I have been here for a while, reading all the posts etc. Something strikes me and I have to ask.

Knebby do you work for Plant's management or are you directly related to him in any manner?

Anytime anyone makes a comment towards Plant, you seem to defend him to no end. I am basing my opinion on what I have read here over the past few months.

Many folks would love to see Plant be a team player. And many are disappointed by his stance to not join forces with them. Hey, but if that is his wish, let it be. Nothing like being a stick in mud, and doing something you don't want to do and bringing down the other team members.

I think it would be safe to say that if there's any slagging to be dished out, it should be directed at me. I started the thread, not Robert Plant :D

I speak as I find. I post my opinions. I believe that's allowed on a message board.

Ally, you're kidding? There is NOTHING wrong with this thread....nothing at all. If the time comes where somebody gets flamed for expressing an honest and open opinion with regards to the future of the band, close the site forever.

You did the right thing. Speak up, invite commentary, feel better about it in the end.

Cheers.

That time has been and gone more times than Madonna's birthday.

Hey! I feel left out! I also replied to Howard's message, so did Walter's Walk, and you didn't question me! Maybe I'm just not as popular a target as Knebby?

Jeez it comes to something when a member of a Zeppelin forum has to explain themselves for "defending" Plant.

Outside of mentioning his quest for critical acclaim there is nothing to attack or defend in my statement. It is an honest opinion an I'm sticking with it

That's probably because Knebby has been around a long time and has a lot of posts, and you joined a couple of days ago.

I meant on this message board - nothing about that statement was directed at you and I can't understand why you think it was.

Oh and Mernie - I see Tara's point - that poster questioned me after quoting my response to Howard's message. I wasn't the only person who responded.

Was making a general statement Knebby. Wasn't taking what you said as directed at me. I should have just posted instead of replying ... my mistake

Well, I try to read thoroughly before I speak in haste, but I obviously missed the connection there. Sorry 'bout that.

I wasn't born when Zep released their albums, so I have never seen them live.

After reading about who influenced bands like GNR I worked backwards and found Zep. Their music is like nothing I have heard before or since and needless to say I soon forgot about the current music I was listening to and immediately went out and bought every Led Zeppelin album (yes on the original vinyl!).

So I guess if anyone is dying to see them live, it is definitely people who have never had the chance. But as much as it would be a dream come true, it has to be right for them and the magic has to be there. The worst thing that could happen is to get some boof-head like this guy Myles what-his-name or any other person besides Robert and call it Led Zeppelin. It would be heartbreaking. Call it anything else, but not Zep. I would still go and see Jimmy, JPJ and Jason plus rocker boof-head but not if they were trying to pass it off as Led Zeppelin. It can't be Led Zeppelin unless it's Robert, Jimmy, JPJ and Jason.

It has to be right. Not because of some faded memory I hold for who they were, or the happy days I associate with the times when they were touring, but for being a young person now, and how they managed to send a message from the past years into the future. This is not to imply that older fans somehow don't want to see them just as much, but just to point out that I would rather give up a chance to see them live when my whole life it has never seemed possible, than to see them if the spirit is gone. Let's hope the O2 reunion isn't once off, but let's also hope that they make the best choices for themselves and for the band.

They are, after all, the greatest band in the world. :)

Yeah, why not?

I have thought about this alot. Zep decided to call it quit's after Bonzo's death for a reason. No disrespect to Jason but Zepplin is not Zepplin with out Bonzo! Ant kind of tour now would tarnish what they did back in 1980 and would purely be for the money.

He must be in his heart do it. No one should force him if he's not up for it.

This is one of the few comments I agree with on this forum wholeheartedly. Its true -- if Plant's heart is not into it, then he shouldn't be forced into it. I say carry on without Plant and get Led Zep back on tour! Get a singer and lets get this show on the road. My hat goes off to the three J's for having the guts and foritude to move forward with this. Rock on guys!

They can't perform just because they want to play? (Preferably not calling themselves Zeppelin, though. And welcome, btw, but I can't stop myself pointing out the band's name is/was Zeppelin. :) )

I really think some of you need to lighten up. Isn't music really about giving people enjoyment and entertainment? Can't we just enjoy whatever it is that they do? Why does it have to be compared to what Led Zep did before? Isn't this a new year? A new century even? How does anything they do now affect the past? I see no validity in this argument made by several posters. Do we look at the Rolling Stones and rate them a substandard group because they tour playing their old songs? I for one, do not. I am not a big fan of them, but I still rate them as one of the best bands of my generation.

No :( It's about giving themselves enjoyment and entertainment. Then things turn out the way they're 'sposed to, anyway :D
