Melcórë
@ OP/topic: ...I like (and can name) three Cream songs: "Sunshine Of Your Love," "SWLABR," and "White Room." I love (almost) the entirety of Led Zeppelin's catalogue. 'Nuff said.
led zep maniack
I have the cream reunion dvd from 2005 and it's really quite good. I thought clapton was in top shape by the excellent solo's he was doing. I think jacks upset with the fact that they are not respected as the first power trio in rock. pinky
It's seems that Jack is jealous that Zeppelin was slated as Cream's "replacement" in the late 60's which not only did they do but they greatly surpassed it becoming the 4th highest selling band of all time and he is also probably jealous because of the fact of not only how good that one show was but how much attention it gained. And it's not like Jack was wailing as though his balls were in a vice so obviously he wouldn't need to play in a lower key. He also seems jealous that Robert's voice held up better than his, can he sing AS high...no but he still not only sings probably higher than any 60 year old man on earth but IMO he does it better than he did in 73/75. I had the opposite reaction to the Cream DVD, I found it timid, especially when compared to EC's recent solo tour. I felt EC had to tone it down a bit for the other guys, for an old guy he is playing at a very high level lately. That he is able to "keep up" with a player like Derek Trucks is impressive. But I've never heard anything but good things about Cream or that they are disrespected. For a band that was only around for 18 months or so they get a lot of attention. eternal light
Robert said last year that Zep had no contemporaries in there time and no one could touch them. Something to that effect. It was a bold statement. Had to do with someone asking him about a Stones comparison I think. I agree with him. I think that Mick Jagger is a talented lyricist and Keith Richards is a capable guitarist. Artists can have comparative value without being carbon copies of one another. It was very nice of Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott to attend the benefit at the O2. They seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves. And of course, there is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUJDcEe6dYo. Aquamarine
I wouldn't mind having a beer right now, but that really ain't saying much. I love all these guys too, but thats not the point here. Yes it is. You said nobody was interested in seeing Cream, I said I was. And I bet a lot of people are. It makes no difference to me what they may have said about Zeppelin or what Zeppelin may have said about anybody else. Kashmir doesn't sound any different to me because Jack Bruce doesn't like it, and Tales of Brave Ulysses wouldn't sound any different if Robert Plant slagged it off. Maybe these guys do have issues with Zeppelin--what does it matter?

zeptangerine
Okay my guess it's pretty clear that those who are asking "Jack who?" are probably less than 25 years old. But I know Jack from the old days, and I can hear him say these things crystal clear. Gotta give credit where it's due- Cream were THE supergroup of the late 60s, and Jack says these things because he never recovered from the fallout. ps- I used to live down the road from Ginger Baker in the mid 90s. Never saw Jack or Eric at his ranch, but I looked for them just in case a reunion was in the works.

Off topic-aqua do you think you could beat Mick in a game of Basketball?

danelectro
Cream were THE supergroup of the late 60s, and Jack says these things because he never recovered from the fallout. Maybe so but Cream's demise had nothing to do with LZ, they were done before Zep came around.

Why no.....why would you think that? I just thought you'd wear him down with your youthful exuberance. I hear you have a mean jump hook, and unstoppable from 3pt range. myledzep
Me too. Can't stand 'em. Well, I love JT so I take that as a "slag". But so what? I love Zep too......
myledzep
I don't even care. I still think Jack Bruce is great, and Cream are great. Plus, it's amazing Bruce is alive at all, he can say what he wants--deosn't hurt me! I'm a Carem fan too. While it was crude, it doesn't bug me either because it's Jack's opinion which is as valid as mine's on any particular subject. Perhaps JB was having a male PMS moment while being interviewed...... DanelectroGod
Ginger is nothing special. Solid, but no JPJ. When you have nothing to say but bad mouthing, it screams jealousy, and perhaps he has a "look at me" attention whore thing going on. As far as Eric, he did do that song with Jimmy and Robert during the P/P era, and I've always have seen print and audio interviews of praise from both Robert and Jimmy. beatbo
This is from Classic Rock website: After the ceremony Dave Ling grabbed Bruce for a quickfire interview – and was stunned when the legendary bassist launched into an extraordinary anti-Led Zeppelin rant. Here's a transcript of what transpired… The million dollar question: Are Cream going to do anything again? Oh yeah, I’m sure we will. But we’ll have Todd Rundgren [who’s just walked by] in the band by then. It’s good news that there might be more from Cream. Well, the trouble is that I’m doing so many amazing things on my own. Cream is just a band from many, many years ago, and we did do something [referring to the reunion shows in 2005]… Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin, and they played one fucking gig – one fucking lame gig – while Cream did weeks of gigs; proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the [vocal] keys lowered and everything. We played everything in the original keys. [becoming animated]: Fuck off, Zeppelin, you’re crap. You’ve always been crap and you’ll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they’re sold. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is. That’s a bold opinion. What? You’re gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that? To be fair, they’re different kinds of player, aren’t they? No! Eric’s good and Jimmy’s crap. And with that I rest my case wow!!!! that is hilarious! "jimmy's crap" priceless! jack bruce - did a proper gig and now look at him! i put our boys head to toe with each and everyone of them....
