First he tries to tell you that he doesn't remember, and then he tells all about what it was like. I can only say that there was a sort of sincerity about those times. There was a kind of general will. The ideology of it being something, we were going to go somewhere new, that we were taking the whole of society with us... When you're twenty you're much more compelled to Hobbiton than you are when you're forty.
