Nervous Breakdown

What exactly is a nervous breakdown? Have you ever had one or know somebody who had one? Am I heading towards one? I used to work with a husband and wife. On several occasions the wife referred to her husband's nervous breakdown. Totally inappropriate. I think Jeff Beck once had one.

The term "nervous breakdown" is used by the public to characterize a wide range of mental illnesses. Nervous breakdown is not a medical term and doesn't indicate a specific mental illness. Generally, the term describes a person who is severely and persistently emotionally distraught and unable to function at his or her normal level.

Well, the bit EL posted sounds about right.

Seriously, if you think you're having a problem (IIRC, you started a similar kind of thread not too long ago)... anyway, you might want to talk to someone in a professional capacity. I'd hate to think you were only getting info and advice from folks on the board. If you're just goofing around, enjoy.
