beatbo
that man was a joy to watch onstage. i never worried about the 'big shoes' he was trying to fill live on old zep tunes. it was obvious he wasn't worried, either. he reminded me slightly of 'animal' the muppet (and i mean that in a very kind way). and he had excellent chops. i'm still horrified.... Aquamarine
He was from Darlington, I believe. Here's a nice tribute from Classic Rock: http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/rip-michael-lee/

ninelives
Wonder why there's been no word on the cause yet. I don't know if the process of investigation is different in the UK but that could be one reason, or perhaps the family hasn't thought of issuing a statement just yet. Still such a shock to me. Rock Action
I played The Cult (1992 live), Robert live solo and Page/Plant pretty much all day today in honor of Michael. He was awesome. Michael, you WILL be missed.

Michael, you WILL be missed. I was watching some Page and Plant as well today and, it was an odd experience. Lee looked so damn happy to be playing. He reminded me of someone who had the fortune to actually get a chance to jam with his hero's. It was written all over his face . Like he was a kid in a candy store. At 39 yrs old, jeez he was a kid. The Pagemeister
Drummer MICHAEL LEE Died Of A Seizure Funeral services for British drummer Michael Lee (ROBERT PLANT, LENNY KRAVITZ, THIN LIZZY, THE CULT, LITTLE ANGELS, THE QUIREBOYS) will be held on Wednesday, December 3 at 10:45 a.m. at Darlington Crematorium in Darlington, England. All flowers and cards can be sent to: John Meynell Funeral Service 150 North Road Darlington County Durham, DL1 2EJ United Kingdom Daniel Stanton of Coallier Entertainment, which has worked with THIN LIZZY in the past, said in a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET, "The results of post mortem was a seizure, apparently the worst one he could have had. "Michael passed away at his flat (home) in Darlington. He was found at his home by his friend and police on the floor beside his bed. "Michael was out the night before [he died]. He said he wasn't feeling well and went home to rest it off. When he didn't answer his phone the next morning, a friend had the police enter his home. "Michael will sadly be missed. "I have received endless calls from fans, friends and family members surrounding Michael's death. "The guys in THIN LIZZY are crushed, I have spoken to people in the Robert Plant camp who have also expressed the same. Spike from the London QUIREBOYS has been dedicating their shows each night to Michael. Dave Ling from Classic Rock magazine is said to be doing a feature on Michael Lee in an upcoming issue. "We will all miss Michael. His boyish smile, his humor, his love and his talent, [but] most of all, we will miss his friendship. "Michael died way too young. He shares his death with Freddie Mercury of QUEEN and drummer Eric Carr of KISS who also passed away on the same date. "We love you, Michael. You are forever in our hearts and your music forever in our souls." Michael Lee was born Michael Gary Pearson on November 19, 1969. He landed a gig in Robert Plant's solo band in time for 1993's "Fate of Nations" album and stayed with the LED ZEPPELIN singer when he reunited with Jimmy Page in 1994. The drummer toured extensively with the ZEPPELIN duo and appears on both PAGE & PLANT's official albums: 1994's "No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded" and 1998's "Walking into Clarksdale". The smile on Michael Lee's face was the brightest light in Unledded. That warm smile endeared him to many skeptics. Holding four sticks on "Four Sticks" was impressive as well. What's not impressive is how what's left of music journalism has handled this. He deserves better. I can't line a pet cage with internet rumors. 2 bad. I would love to see an official P/P live album. Years went by without the masses realizing what a good band they had. Unledded and WIC didn't enhance their reputation the way Pensicola 95 or Sheppard's Bush 1998 could have. Youtube is slowly rewriting that dreadful history.

They couldn't make any definitive announcement before the cause of death had been verified by autopsy--to do otherwise would have been irresponsible. There were no rumors that I saw, just reports of his death and the fact that the cause was to that point unconfirmed. Not that I'm defending rock journalism as a whole! But in this case, I don't think they screwed up particularly, given the absence of official announcements. Anyway, what's so sad about this announcement is that it sounds as if he was alone. I just hope for his sake it was very quick.

There were no rumors that I saw, just reports of his death and the fact that the cause was to that point unconfirmed. I see your point. What I meant by rumor was that is was not believable without evidence. I don't remember any passing covered like this one was, with a one liner from tabloids, and no official word of any kind. As of today I see it's time to let go. Michael Lee, I enjoyed the hell out of watching you work.
Lee
R.I.P Michael...to hear of someone dying of a seizure aged just 39 sure reminds you just how precious life is.
DanelectroGod
RIP. Such a sad way to go. My next door neighbor started to have seizures at 37, and back in the spring had one as she was driving to work and crashed, and almost passed away. Seems that people who are so full of life go so sudden. Prayers to his family and friends. His presence on stage will never be forgotten. On the '98 tour, he really shinned since it was just the four on stage. Who could ever forget the smoking version of How Many More Times, or No Quarter from that tour. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your feelings about Michael Lee with us. I didn't know Michael personally and I never met him, but I will miss him too. eternal light
I went down to St. James Infirmary, Saw my baby there, She was stretched out on a long white table, So cold, so sweet, so fair. Let her go, let her go, God bless her, Wherever she may be, She can look this wide world over, But she'll never find a sweet man like me. When I die, bury me in straight-lace shoes, I want a box back coat and a Stetson hat, Put a 20 dollar gold piece on my watch chain, So the boys'll know that I died standing pat.
