danelectro59
truly one of the best drummers ever. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgeX9iYOFSQ...feature=related
Jarlaxle 56
I'm not hearing his influence on Bonham...though I certainly agree he was an awesomely talented jazz drummer. There's not much jazz going on in Zeppelin, except for a few songs here and there. Namely How Many More Times and Fool In The Rain.

If you watch Moby Dick, either TSRTS or RAH version, you'll see and hear many similarities. One is the snare drum rolls and the way both dampen the head with one hand while rapid fire playing with the other. I know the music they played is totally different, but drum solo wise, not that much. And yes, Buddy Rich was one of Bonzo's influences. Read "A Thunder of Drums" No no drum expert, but I instantly thought Moby Dick from TSRTS, with that snare. Personally, I find Buddy Rich and jazz drummers to be overrated. Great technically, but just not nearly as musical sounding as alot of great rock drummers. I can sit back, listen, and be blown away, sure, but I would rather listen to an actual song and not some drummers ego boost.
Jarlaxle 56
Okay, yeah I can concede that he was inspired/influenced by him. Also, jazz drummers....unmusical? Is that some kind of joke? Jazz is far more FUN to listen to and play than any rock music. ANY solo can get boring after a while.
danelectro
Craziest thing about that Buddy vid is he was 53 at the time, when he was younger he was even faster and more technical.
bigstickbonzo
truly one of the best drummers ever. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgeX9iYOFSQ...feature=related Bonzo preferred Krupa over Rich. Both were so talented. While I think jazz was a certain influence, Bonzo was a big band/swing player more than anything. His best beats were always during the 50s rock boogie sections during their jams. As that being where I started with music at such a young age, it was very easy for me to immediatrly like Bonham's style.

I know that Bonzo was thrilled to play Carnegie Hall because Buddy Rich had played there.

I find most of the great jazz drummers, and rock drummers that is influenced by them, having a groove that other drummers are lacking. I think jazz is the ultimate improvisational musical form, and that demands the drummer has a lot of feeling and not only technical skills. I don't consider myself a "drum expert" though i've been playing them since 1968. Your sarcastic point was taken, though. Have a nice day
