John Piano Man Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 would have to bohemian rhapsody it still gives me goosebumps each time i hear it Musical opinion is subjective. there are no absolutes. For instance, someone from China would have a totally different idea about music and what is "the best". Quote

Jahfin Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 it still gives me goosebumps each time i hear it Not a bad song but if it were to come on the radio I'd change the station almost immediately because I've heard it so many times. Quote
danelectro59 Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 It would probably depend who was asked. If it was someone with musical expertise, it would probably not be a rock song. My guess would be "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from the Wizard of Oz. Or maybe "White Christmas." If it were strictly a rock song, then yes "Bohemian Rhapsody" would be very high on the list. I don't think it would be #1. STH has beaten it before many times in polls and TV shows on the subject. "Yesterday" by you know who also is way up there. But hey, a century is a long time Quote
beatbo Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 "happy birthday" is going for it's second century! Quote
Jarlaxle 56 Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Probably something by Igor Stravinsky. Rite of Spring is an intensely awesome ballet. Or maybe something by Sergei Prokofiev, or Karlheinz Stockhausen, or maybe George Gershwin. You're probably thinking "What a smartass elitist", but no, classical compositions will always be more expressive than pop music. As much as I enjoy it. Quote
ebk Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 I second White Christmas, in as much as it's the best selling song of the century. And I just finished watching the movie... Quote

Swede Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 In my world there are no such thing as "the greatest song of the 20th cetury". I could probably make a list of a couple of hundred songs that I think is perfect compositions and performances. Quote
ArmsofAtlas Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 would have to bohemian rhapsody it still gives me goosebumps each time i hear it Not even the best song on that side of vinyl. Prophet's Song slays it. Quote
