Welsh Zephead Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 Ah Barry Island. My nan used to take me there when I was a kid back in the '70s. It was once the biggest holiday place in Britain during those days. You couldn't move on the beach due to the holidaymakers. Nowadays, you would rarely see around 30 people on the beach in the middle of the summer, I blame Florida. I will report on what happens and what he's down here for. I know they are not going to ask the question regarding what everyone wants to know but I'm still shocked that he's coming to Barry. Now if we only could get Jonesy, Jimmy and Bonham Jr appearing. Barry Island would be set in stone in rock history. Anyway, good of Robert to come to what is a great little town. Maybe Ruth could get him to do a rendition of "Old Man" by Love, one of my fave songs. I know it's one of his. Quote
TheZeppyWanderer Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 there are many of us who will stand by Robert through thick and thin, no matter what he does. But let's be frank - he will spend the rest of his career dodging THE question until he gives a definite, unambiguous, firm yes or no, one way or another. personally, I'd be happy if he was never asked the question again, and was left alone to pursue his life in whatever direction he pleases - but the reality is, all journalists in the music business would give their right arms and left testicles to be the one to break the news about a Zep comeback. And they can't grab this ultimate scoop unless they ask THE most burning question in the rock industry today. Quote

Just leave the MAN alone!!! I am waiting for his next adventure.... Quote

eternal light Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_radio_wales_fm/ I'm listening to Christmas carols at the moment. Quote
Welsh Zephead Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 Just come back from there, quite a good turnout too. Regarding "Blue Christmas", he did ask Ruth to play it for the Queen of Merthyr Tydfil. It was his chosen song and talked about when he met Elvis. He said that he met Elvis in 1973 at the LA Forum and he wondered why Led Zeppelin were selling more tickets than himself. Robert said that Elvis had too many people around him to know much about what was happening in the world. Robert also said that Peter Grant tripped when they met and landed on Elvis's dad. During the Elvis talk which he said lasted one and half hours, they mentioned soundchecks. Robert said that Elvis asked what they did and Jimmy replied that only the singer would have one and he would sing your songs. Elvis asked which one and Robert replied "Love Me". Robert then said that when he was leaving, Elvis swung around a corner and started singing the intro and then they both dueted before Robert left. Robert also talked about his son playing for Inter Cardiff (A football team) which I never knew. He also mentioned how he went to Porthcawl in his younger days. The question was asked about reforming the greatest band to ever live and Robert replied that he keeps in touch with Jimmy but he is with an American woman (Miss Krauss) now and is quite happy. He also said that they are now doing there own things but as he said are keeping in touch from time to time. He referred to Zeppeln as "The other band" Most of the music played was Christmas themed but Black Dog got it's way on there. He simply is one of the nicest people in music. Quote
Welsh Zephead Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 He sang "Old Man" at the Arthur Lee benefit - it was really wonderful. God, I envy you going to that benefit. I've searched everywhere on the net to see if I could find Roberts version of it. To do that benefit for Arthur showed how nice he is. Quote

To do that benefit for Arthur showed how nice he is. It was amazing indeed. Even nicer that he offered to pay his own way so they'd have more monies that could go to help Arthur. Thanks for the review - sounds like it was a great event! I love his take on Santa Claus Is Back In Town. He sang that with the Honeydrippers on SNL and with Priory of Brion Quote

Back in the '70s I'm sure there was a big King Kong statue or something like that around, or in, Barry Island. Maybe it was Porthcawl (coz we used to go there too)? All I seem to remember is a big King Kong that used to scare me. Unless I was dreaming the whole thing?? Quote

I am thinking it would be Porthcawl because they had these dinosaur statues as well outside their fairground park which scared the hell out of me. I wouldn't go in where the dinosaurs were, too frightened. Quote

Kentuckygirl Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 (edited) The media spin begins: This is a copy and paste from the Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...union-tour.html Plant, 60, said he has moved on to other things and was getting too old for two-hour rock shows in giant arenas across the world. But he said he was regularly in touch with guitarist Jimmy Page and they were still great friends. Plant has been nominated for five Grammy awards for his Raising Sands album with American bluegrass singer Alsion Krauss. He said: "I'm doing very well with Alison and I'm enjoying that. "I still see Jimmy quite a lot and he's very complimentary and supportive of what I'm doing. "But we are in different places now and you have to go on to do different things." Plant was on stage yesterday being interviewed on BBC Radio Wales by actress Ruth Jones who plays Nessa in TV's Gavin and Stacey. The live show came from Barry, South Wales, where part of the cult comedy is set. Plant agreed to do a rare live interview because he is such a huge fan of the show. But when Ruth asked him about a Led Zep reunion Plant said: "Do you know how long it took me to climb up onto the stage here - and it's only four steps!" Plant delighted the crowd by praising Ruth Jones for her Nessa character. He said: "I'd just like to say thanks for giving me so many laughs over the last couple of years." KG editorial: So much for the idea that there is some sort of "disagreement" going on between Page and Plant. Edited December 21, 2008 by Kentuckygirl Quote
