Zeppelin I Album cover colors?

Hello, can anyone explain the difference in colors on the zeppelin I album covers? Some type is yellow, some is orange. Different pressings, country?

The July & August 1990 issues of Goldmine magazine features an excellent Led Zeppelin discography written by Seattle-based collector Hugh Jones. He lists dozens of cover

variations from the first album through the last. My copies are inaccessible at the moment, but you can normally find them online (ebay, etc) for about $5-$10 each.

Another good reference source is Robert Godwin's book 'The Illustrated Collector's

Guide to Led Zeppelin'.

Finally, swandown (forum member) is one of the most knowledgeable collector's in

the field of discography, he may see your question and post a response. If your

serious about collecting Led Zeppelin contact me via PM and we'll discuss it further.

Seems like the Chris Dreja photo on the back starts out reddish brown in 1969 and gradually gets lighter with subsequent re pressings. That is just my personal observation from working in a record store. The turquoise version has the Atlantic logo in turquoise, possible alternate Atlantic record label.

The photo on mine if a yellowish color.

I would say that this is almost certainly due to the fact that later LP sleeves are a re-print. Unless the printer had a previous copy to colour match, he would "run to weight". Even then, some variations will occur during the print run: it can often come down to the individual who printed it.

Really? I'd like to see those :D

opps, sorry, no green colors: I remembered wrong from AUS and NZ pressings

Anyway, I confirm all the variations between red / yellow colors due to different pressings and countries. B)

I put most of them on my discographies on line but I didn't finished yet

The turquoise (from UK) you all know it's pretty common - you can find not less than two copies every week on ebay - but usually goes for big money: yeah, this is fashion, not rarity.

Well ,you have to consider the turquoise one was ultra rare for the US collector before the days of the internet, and is still sought after for the "completist".....and the fact that 100's of thousands more were pressed for the US market.

The first pressing (US) has the band's name in reddish orange and the label on the vinyl is purple/brown. All others are Yellow w/ a green/red label. The yellow ones are a dime a dozen. The first pressing, only in mint condition, can fetch a decent price.

I agree only on a 50% basis.

In fact what I see, every week, that only ebayers with low feedback or newbie are the most interested on the turquoise. I think that all the "completists" (I agree on the word) have already their copy: I see that the real Zep fans or collectors remain on a decent price (usually around 100 Euro or Pounds) for a clean copy.

Yes, the first US with the light brown/purple label is interesting but I think that a german copy with the same label is really difficult to find.

Love those label pics. I have Cream "Wheel of Fire" on the purple and brown label but it says Atco not Atlantic. Jimmy was adamant about being on Atlantic.
