^ That was a big surprise!  Any tasty F1 news heading into the 2017 campaign?

The most exciting news from Finnish point of view is that the driver to replace Nico Rosberg is VALTTERI BOTTAS!  With Kimi Räikkönen in Ferrari there should be a good chance for first Finnish GP win since 2013.

2017 cars will be longer, lower and have wider tires. They should be about 3 seconds faster than last year! Sauber was the first team to reveal their new car:

  2. Today we visited the traditional christmas market at the Lappeenranta fortress. Unfortunately my cameras battery died so I didn't get any photos of the actual marketplace.

  3. Nico Rosberg is the 2016 world champion! This is the second time when son of a former champion wins the title.

The big surprise was what happened just days after the last race when Rosberg announced that he will retire! Now the big question is who will replace him in Mercedes? Pascal Wehrlein seems to be the number 1 candidate at the moment.

  4. Max Verstappen in the Brazilian GP...amazing, absolutely amazing. Rarely do we see a performance like that!

Kimi's crash was really scary but luckily nothing serious happened.

One race to go and Rosberg has a lead of 12 points to Hamilton. It looks like Nico isn't even trying to win races anymore, just playing it safe. We'll see if this tactic brings him his first world championship in 27th of November.

  5. In the last two races Hamilton has done exactly what was expected from him. He is keeping the championship fight alive.

The Mexican GP was bit boring until the last laps. Vettel lost it completely:

F1 continues next weekend in Brazil.

  6. Two weeks ago it looked like Hamilton is starting to crack. Fooling around in one press conference, walking out of another and screwing up the start... I think this weekend will be very crucial for him. If he can't get his act together Rosberg could be 40 points or more ahead after sunday. That would be a huge gap to catch up in three races.

  7. Ricciardo wins in Malaysia! Because of Hamilton's bad luck Rosberg stretches his lead to 23 points with five races to go.

4th and 5th places were pretty much maximum for Finnish drivers today. Ferrari and Williams just didn't have the speed to challenge Mercedes and Red Bull. Especially Williams has dropped far away from the top teams.

  8. Night race in Singapore is always a beautiful setting for a GP. Ricciardo almost made it but wasn't quite enough. Now Rosberg seems to have the momentum in the championship fight. I honestly thought he was done for when Hamilton passed him in the points couple of races ago.

Speaking of Hamilton, Mercedes once again outmaneuvered Ferrari wih their tactic and Kimi's overtake on Lewis was wasted.

Next is Malaysia at the beginning of October, another race with hot conditions.

  9. ^ Black cat looks like a badass :)

We spend last weekend at the Southern Coast of Finland. Here's some places we visited. First the idyllic old town of Tammisaari or Ekenäs in Swedish. About 80 % of people there speak Swedish as their native language.

  10. Bit boring last half of the race in Hockenheim. Hamilton stretches his lead in the points. Red Bull was really strong and they have taken Ferrari's place as the second fastest team.

Next GP won't be until a month from now but luckily the Olympics will start next week ;)
