Aaagh! My hard drive died last week and I lost the pic of Jimmy that was my wallpaper. Now I can't find it anywhere. I got it from a slideshow that someone posted in this thread, but the slideshow has changed and doesn't include that pic anymore. It was this one but larger and without the text:
I need to find it again because it was inspiring me to play guitar more and take my music more seriously. Does anyone have it or know where I might find it?

Never mind. I just found it.

ILCK formed in 1999, two years after the Stripes.
You're right. I'm wrong. I think I got the White Stripes mixed up with another band like that. I should have just recommened ILCK as a similar band. Now I need to edit my previous post because I realize it's full of errors.

thanks to this thread I discovered the Undertones
great band. I'm listening to the second album.
next band on the list, Radio Birdman
Yeah, the Undertones are great, and I forgot to add them to my list.
As for Radio Birdman, I recommend Radios Appear as the record to start with. If you end up liking Radio Birdman, you might want to listen to The Scientists as well. They're a similar Australian band from the same era. I actually like them better.

I believe it was the Immortal Lee County Killers.

Here's a short list, just the ones that come to mind right now.
Black Sabbath
Judas Preist
Slayer
Motorhead
Venom
Iron Maiden
Bathory
Danzig
Macabre
Carpathian Forest
Nunslaughter
Rat Salad

Does anyone like the Immortal Lee County Killers? They sound kind of like the White Stripes' first record but faster, with more distortion. The guitar player, Chet the Cheetah, calls the sound Fucked Up Blues.
Fucked Up Blues = blues played by punk rockers, which means it's stripped down and has a lot of distortion (a better definition can be found on the ILCK page above).
Like The White Stripes, some incarnations of the Immortal Lee County Killers have been just a guitar player + a drummer.
Chet's pre-ILCK band, The Quadrajets are also pretty cool.

self-titled LP
The Hex Dispensers/Haunted George:
split 7" (Forest Ray Colson + Pile o' Meat)
EDIT:
I forgot to mention
two 7"s

The fathers of metal. What's not to like about them? Of course, their Ozzy era is pretty much the best you could ask for. End of story.
Seconded.
Ozzy wrote some great lyrics too. He deserves more credit for that. And of course Tony Iommi created the metal guitar sound, which changed everything.

I just noticed that no one's mentioned a band I've recently started checkin' out:
Man or Astroman?
Yeah, I like them. I was just listening to one of their records the other day. They were primarily inspired by Devo. They didn't make my list because I only included bands from the 60s and 70s.

OK, here my list. I'm focusing on the early punk/proto-punk bands in order to keep it to readable length. The stuff I like from today is not well-known anyway.
Screaming Lord Sutch
MC5
The Sonics
Pretty Things
The Stooges
The Thirteenth Floor Elevators
VU
NY Dolls
Rocket From the Tombs
The Dictators
Suicide
The Ramones
The Cramps
The Damned
The Heartbreakers
The Dead Boys
Devo
The Screamers
The Germs
X
The Avengers
Television
The Misfits
The Dicks
The Birthday Party
Radio Birdman
The Scientists
The Big Boys
Eater
Bad Brains
Black Flag
The Bags
Roky Erickson
The Vamps
The Mystery Dates
Patti Smith
The Buzzcocks
Crime
The Zeros
The Nuns
I know I'm leaving out some important ones.

Hot pics of Jimmy
in Photos
Posted
Yeah, I had been wondering whether it was from the early Zeppelin days or if it was a Yardbirds-era photo. Then my boyfriend said he got that guitar after LZ formed, and later, it got stolen (not sure what year). Also, in some versions of it, you can see that he has long hair. So I'm guessing it's from '69 - '71 or something like that.
Anyway, it's my favorite picture of him. And it's a beautiful Les Paul.
