I'm new to collecting vinyl.  Does anyone have any opinions on collecting Zeppelin on vinyl.  Which pressing are best, e.g. - reissues vs originals?  I love me some JPJ and want to hear the bass clearly.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello!

It is widely believed that the most audiophile quality is the first press made in England. Having in the collection a fairly large number of the first and later editions made in the USA, England, W. Germany, France, Japan etc,  at least for the first 3 albums, I can confirm this. Since the 4th album, this is very subjective, but some US editions sound more interesting, IMO. From my point of view, if the English first presses are considered audiophile quality, then the American ones are the flesh and blood of real hard rock music.
At the same time, some W. Germany editions (original) have a very good bass, such as LZ II.

As for the reissues, the later releases, say since the late 80s, sound completely different, with a different remastering, from my point of view with a clear touch of digitization.

In this sense, if  the price does not matter, then the UK originals (they are also the most expensive) have a collector's value. If we start from the value for money, then first of all you need to buy the best preserved LPs, and quite good sound quality are American reissues of the 70s, the same Monarch presses, as well as the first Japanese editions, which have both the envelope and the vinyl itself of excellent quality by themselves.  At the same time, the Japanese editions included the lyrics, and the first album was released in a gatefold sleeve (original Nippon Grammophon  green / light blue label).

sometime ago , 7th October 2008 , plomerus , a regular contributor on matters floyd to the collectorsmusicreviews site , set out expertly a list of essential floyd concerts and relative bootlegs . he discussed reasons for selecting the concerts and identified at that time best sounding boots .

I do wonder if out there for zep * is there is a comparable list that I have missed complied by say dadgad / winston / or someone similarly knowledgable .

I think most of the visitors know huge list of nearly all available boots on bootledz.com

"Comparisons" list and "My Picks" are very solid and full of impressive info.

    Please check.

"Make it so that they could not do otherwise, then they will believe" - Kuindzhi A. I.

In fact, many parallels can be drawn with Kuindzhi. An absolutely unique artist, an unsurpassed landscape painter.

The son of a shoemaker, he came to St. Petersburg with empty pockets and became a millionaire by the age of 40.

In 1880, an extraordinary exhibition was opened in St. Petersburg: one painting (shown above) was shown — "Moonlit Night on the Dnieper".

It was real sensation. An unprecedented exhibition of one painting was accompanied by an unprecedented excitement...

I'm glad you liked it. It's a really good show. Hopefully the rest of the soundboard gets released eventually.

    Hi, Steve!

It looks both OSAKA 71 Shows were great.

Last week had experienced Live in Japan 1971 - (GTO 928, GTO 929), this weekend would like to compare it with God Save The Queen latest version.

    Did you?

  5. I think it would be a good idea to organize a special festival, under the patronage of LZ, where the band's songs could be performed.

Pefectly, it seems, would be the appearance on the stage of the musicians themselves, to award the best (in their opinion).

Perhaps now is not the best time to do this.

    greetings led zeppelin fans,

i havent been on this forum in years.the 50th anniversary remasters sound great. especially hearing rock n roll again i think its one of the best i have ever heard. im hoping that the release wouldnt only get people interested in the band but provide a launching point for jimmy page releasing solo stuff or just the whole band getting ready for a great new reunion. im pretty sure they have ideas for new songs since the 02 era. I really think there will be something musically happen for us that have been waiting for so long of a time . maybe in the next 7 years ?

    thanks, Ryan Almond

Think, its high time to release really something special, at least step by step in High Resolution audio (DSD audio) all studio works, limited edition master tapes, some concerts from soundboards on master tapes and high res DSD audio...

Hope our generation, fans, who never were at live concerts or had no opportunity to be on them have the right, hope, to hear the musical material released, remastered hands of musicians in highest quality. My preferences are DSD audio and master tapes...)))

I can only imagine how on master tape HOTH sounds.

Apologies if this has been discussed already (did a quick search and couldn't find anything), but does anyone know anything about the 2nd source for this show? Apparently, it hasn't made its way into trading circles, but it's known to exist. Here's a description from Argenteum Astrum:

Discussion on Royal Orleans seems to have revealed scant information as well. Anyone know anything more about this?

Did not ever heard about it, but have in collection OTRs of previous 27.04.1977 concert in Richfield Coliseum

There is one item I am kicking myself for not buying, and that is the Led Zeppelin Central Park 1969 16mm film when it was for sale a few years back. A few of us were going to go in on it privately, but we were never told exactly what was on it, and how the quality was. I would have liked to have known or been shown more. I believe the price at the time was 10K, but my memory could be wrong as it was a while back. Any info would be appreciated, and what happened to this film. Any tracks or traces? July 21st 1969 - 16mm film. Wollman Rink Theater.

Nearly the same feeling, concerning  2 track master tape from Schaefer Music Festival, Central Park. I should buy it for sure, in spite of only 71/2 ips and, probably not soundboard.
