  1. I'd be very interested in any feedback on an item that my friend is about to put up for sale on EBay. It's a pair of jeans signed in 1980 by John Bonham. Here's a couple of pics.

Obviously, they wouldn't really be wearable - they are a very small female-sized pair of Levi's, very worn and patched on the rear. They are a collector's item. There is ample evidence of their authenticity.

Any feedback at all would be nice - and anyone with a genuine interest or offer can be connected with the seller under the right circumstances.

    Cheers.

Wow, Knebby! As a long time collector my feedback would be that those jeans are one hell of a piece to own. As you know, I own Bonzo's hat but I don't broadcast what I paid for it so if you wanna PM me, I can let you in on that. maybe that will give your friend an idea on how to price the jeans. Big difference being that the jeans weren't owned by Bonzo BUT my hat isn't signed so possibly an offsetting issue.

Rick Barrett would also be a fantastic resource as well. He may even make an offer. I can put you in touch if you or your friend would like. You may even know Rick.

I wish I were in better financial straits because if I were, those jeans would be in the air and on their way to the US! LOL

Make sure your friend sets a nice reserve price on Ebay.

In all honesty, I personally would suggest your friend keep the jeans regardless of their financial situation. That's temporary but these jeans are a once in a lifetime deal and they may regret selling them. I was put to the test about a year ago when I was laid off and never even considered selling the hat though I knew it would get me out of the hole but I couldn't part with it.

I actually chose bankruptcy, eviction and giving my car back instead of selling the hat. Am I a hardcore fan or what (or an idiot)? LOL

  2. Jimmy still has the mold used to create the aging of his face for his fantasy sequence. I believe he still has the robe as well. Sam might know if Jonsey kept his mask and cape. Robert remembers the crew pouring kerosine on the lake and lighting it to create the flames but I'm not sure about the sword's fate. I've certainly never seen any props from the film up for sale or auction. Promotional items, sure, but nothing the band actually wore in the film.

Fantastic as usual, Steve! Eye Thank Yew!

  3. I think Van Halen based their 1984 song, "Girl Gone Bad" on it for sure...

    R B)

Possibly. I always felt it was more like Song Remains The Same. 1984 was heavily influenced by Zep as admitted by Alex. You'll also notice the totally nicked Black Dog drum fill in the break of Drop Dead Legs.

  4. Is it somebody here bidding on this, I wonder?

An interesting piece that seems to have fuck-alll to do with Led Zeppelin - from what I can read they aren't named on there, and we all know the true status of those dates!

Its a little sickening that someone is about to make over £100 for a document confirming a Terry Reid gig under the pretence that it confirms a Led Zeppelin gig.

    Knebby,

FWIW, anytime I see bogus Zep stuff on Ebay, I email the buyer to let them know what's up and that they can retract their bid should they so choose. I also email the seller and give him a fine written beating. Think Peter Grant in TSRTS. :buttsmack:

Makes me sick too. It happens mostly with fake concert posters and "signed" memorabilia.

  5. That's correct. The Beach Boys played a concert in Philadelphia where Jimmy Page ( John Stamos and Mr. T) joined them onstage in July just prior to the Live Aid show. It may have been on the 4th of July but I'm not certain. I KNOW it was the July 4th celebration but not certain if it occured on that day or not.

I was there on Ben Fanklin Parkway-along with reportedly 300,000 other people. It was hot as hell that day. 95F or more.

They also played in Washington D.C. I have video of both concert sand snippets of them travelling by bus from Pa. to D.C.

It was on the 4th. I was there too! Right up front. Fuckin' roasting hot. Interesting story though. I almost got to meet Jimmy Page. I went with my girlfriend and we were up front. All the sudden she got overtaken by heat and passed out. The staff up front took us under the rope and backstage to the medical area. I was standing there while they were putting ice packs on her her neck and all the sudden I turn around and Jimmy is stepping of a trailer! I don't recall but I may have soiled both the front and back of my shorts. LOL

Anyway, I started towards him, yelled "Hey Jimmy!". He looked and gave me "the grin" and a thumbs up. I kept walking towards him and then two guards grabbed me under each arm and carried me backwards!

Total fate except I didn't get to meet him. My girlfriend ended up ok and they actually let us back in the front where we were initially. Someone groaned and the guards told them we were there first.

A week later I was at Live Aid........

  6. Has anyone posted this?

    robertphil.jpg

Wow, that pic gave a me a flashback(somewhat annoying). I remember 9/14/83 in Philly. I was in the front row and Robert was introducing the group and when he got to Phil Collins, he blew that damn trumpet right into the mic and my head almost exploded since I was right next to the speaker. Then of course Collins came back to Philly on 7/13/85 and pissed me off further. LOL

  7. In My Time of Dying" is a blues song that has been covered by many rock musicians since the early 1960s. The original recording was a traditional gospel song recorded by Blind Willie Johnson, titled "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed"; his sides were recorded over the period 1927-1930.

Interesting to note in the May 2008 issue of Uncut Jimmy is specifically asked about the cough at the end of the track. He doesn't claim it is a tip of the hat to Johnson, who had died from pneumonia after going to sleep in a wet night shirt having fought a fire which consumed his home. Perhaps because it is Jimmy whom coughs?

Hmmm, I always thought it was Bonzo coughing.

  8. It's funny you should mention the jam with Solid Ground, as I've never seen any

photos from that one. I have the recording, and that lineup had a male as well as a female singer. I've been to the Crystal Bay Club myself so at least I have photos of

    the venue.

Unfortunately my copy has since vanished but I recall a pic being on the front of the CD. I'm not aware of any others that exist beyond that.

  9. Mystery Photo:

    NewOrleans.jpg

    Possibilities:

3/23/91 China Club New York City

Jam session with local band The Reputations for half an hour including 'Further On Up The Road'

5/29/91 Crystal Bay Club Crystal Bay, NV

80 minute impromptu jam session with Solid Ground

12/7/91 86 St. Music Hall Vancouver

Jam session with Long John Baldry for 30-minute blues set which includes 'Got My Mojo Working' …he'd been hanging out and talked with Baldry's guitarist Tony for about 15 mins

2/19/93 Muddy Waters Club New Orleans

    Jam with Mason Ruffner

2/21/93 Howlin' Wolf Club New Orleans

    Jam with Mason Ruffner

I suspect the photograph was taken during one of the two jams with Mason (Jimmy's good friend and an opening act for The Firm in '86) but have yet to find a photo of Mason from '93 to confirm. Can anyone in New Orleans (Alwizard ?) confirm that the interior of either club matches that in the photo above?

    Steve,

I hope this helps. I had a boot of Jimmy playing with Solid Ground and I believe they had a female singer. Also, the drummer looks to have hair so I would say that isn't Chris Slade.

  10. Achilles is fast, epic, and includes Jimmy's best solo. No, I didn't say "one of the best." The best.

It also has an awesome galloping bassline from Jones, something you don't hear often.

Well I lean more towards on one of the best solos. I think the SIBLY solo is better.
