  1. Now I do feel foolish. I posted the same question about Bron-Yr-Aur photos over at Royal-Orleans.com and someone posted the photo of RP and Strider on the motorcycle as possibly being from BYA. If I'm not mistaken that was from an old article and the photos were from Jennings Farm. My answer was directed to them. That's what I get for bouncing around and not paying proper attention I guess. Thanks for checking me, Knebby.

    Which pic with Strider?

  2. I don't see any evidence of Photoshop. I'd suspect a bad scan of an old photo taken in the mist of the region.

LOL. The first photograph is ridiculously Photoshopped. It was shot by Eddie Kramer at Stargroves in 1972 during the Houses of the Holy recording sessions. Here's the original:

  3. Hey, I think the second one was confirmed by someone as being from JPJ's home. It does look a little posh from the things I've read about the condition of Bron-Yr-Aur at the time of their visit(s). I'd really like to hope that they didn't haul audio tape equipment, guitars, whatever other essentials and not one camera( still or video). It would be nice to see photos or film of that period. Seemed to be a very positive time for JP/RP and resulted in some great tunes.

Meant in regards to the photo of them sitting round the living room area.

  4. Was it ever mentioned if any equipment ( i.e. guitars, amps, etc.) were taken?

The full extent of the theft may never be known. Clearly, the 1980 soundboards and, according to Jimmy, demo material for his first solo album. As I understand it the solo material that was stolen was merely rough instrumental sketches, not completed songs as such. I do have one outtake, titled Judas Touch, that is complete with vocals but I don't believe it was among the material that was stolen, rather it seems it was deliberately left off of the album.

So far as I know the original recordings were never returned to him, however a reputable collector in the UK Led Zeppelin community who had copies of most (if not all) of the stolen tapes (but was NOT involved in the theft) was ultimately contacted and, in May 1999, invited down to Abbey Road studios for a weekend (with said tapes) so that Jimmy could make copies of the stolen recordings for his archive. It's my understanding Jimmy was extremely kind and generous to the collector and their spouse for the assistance.

  5. As I stated a few posts back, I interpreted that comment to mean that both bands simply played on the same bill or at a festival and not as the musicians in both bands actually jammed together at one time. But,I could be wrong.

That's why I would love to see them together. It might ruin the song, but it sure would be entertaining. :bubble: As Robert said they played with them more than once, so it must not have gone too badly.

  6. IMHO I think that would be a train wreck. You're talking about two massive on-stage front man ego's there. The competition for the spotlight would likely ruin the song.

Thanks so much, Triple Kick. I read the whole interview and it was fantastic. I found what he said about Jim Morrison very on target. Robert Plant, the winnowing old man, is very wise. I would pay a lot of money to get a hold of a live recording of Zep and the Doors playing together. Morrison and Plant on stage together would be out of this world.

  7. I took Deborah J's advice/post and looked it up on YouTube. That particular pop festival, on YouTube, does not have the Doors and Zeppelin playing together, unfortunately. If they did jam together, it has not been recorded and displayed. Maybe someone on the board knows if Zeppelin made any comments about the Doors (FireOpal might know). Or, if the Doors commented on Zeppelin. I am curious because I am a Doors fan and this is a mystery to me.

Perhaps he was just referring to them playing at the same festival and not necessarily jamming together.

  8. Supposition on my part, but I'd guess he tried to eat healthy when possible while on the road in the early days, but there are those photos of him ordering in a diner(which I seriously doubt offered vegetarian edibles back in the day) and also that photo of him in the studio circa LZII with an Arbie's(for the Brit's, an American roast beef fast food establishment) squirt bottle on the console desk. He obviously wasn't consuming too many calories of any kind around 1977.

  9. Hey Steve,

I've asked before to no avail. Do you know if there are any photos of JP, RP and their traveling companions inside or around Bron-Yr-Aur? I've seen the ones of Jimmy sitting by the creek, but none of them around or inside the cottage. Thanks.

  10. Oh, right. Good point. I shall have to reconfirm if some, all or none stayed at Royal Orleans on the first leg. If not, JPJ's hotel room fire there in '75 (alluded to in the lyrics of their song Royal Orleans) may well be the reason for the eventual change to the Maison Dupuy.

Both hotels are located in the Latin Quarter, not far from Bourbon Street.

Hey Steve, one slight correction. The Royal Orleans is located in the French Quarter not the "Spanish Quarter". There is no "Latin Quarter". I'm from the area and have stayed there quite a few times and enjoy going to the observation deck when I'm in town. Keep up the good work.
