I guess it depends on whether you saw Black Flag in the old days. As long as you know you are basically getting a tribute band version of Black Flag. Keith Morris is long gone. Dez Cadena is long gone. Henry Rollins is long gone. Chuck Dukowski is long gone. Robo is long gone. Chuck Biscuits is long gone. Kira is long gone. Bill Stevenson is long gone. Anyone who had anything to do with Black Flag's original 1976-1986 run is gone...except for original guitarist Greg Ginn.

The last time I saw Greg and his hired hands was a few years ago...maybe ten. It was disappointing. I'll stick to the memories I have of seeing them back in the day. But I'll leave it to your discretion as to whether it you feel it is worth the trip.

    ok, thanks.

I am curious about your thought process. I could understand it if you did not like The Heavy and wanted to know other people's opinions about their live shows. But you say you like the band and their songs. So the next obvious step is to go to one of their concerts and see for yourself. They are playing a club in San Francisco so the tickets should not be that expensive, so just go and you will have to wonder no more.

If I had listened to the people (often Pink Floyd or Who fans) who were always saying Led Zeppelin sucked in concert and never gone to see them for myself, I would have missed out on some of the greatest nights of my life. That is why whenever I discover a band whose records and songs I like, I always go check 'em out in concert as soon as I can.

Well, in 1982 I went to see Heart, which was one of my favorite bands at the time. Their show sucked. I don't recall now what was wrong except Ann Wilson stood literally in one spot the entire night and they all seemed disengaged from each other and just basically played their hits w/ no improv.

As for San Francisco, I don't live there, and although it's not far, it does mean 40 minutes of driving each way, a bridge toll, and the cost of a parking garage.

Jeff passed peacefully, and perhaps some solace can be found in that. Personally, I find that I do not want to dwell on his sudden absence and the silence it has brought but that is this new reality. In time, I want to celebrate a remarkable life well lived. We can all get by with a little help from our friends.

I hold Peter Grant responsible as to why someone didn't get Bonzo into alcohol rehab ... That's what a manager's job is ...To put together the best product possible on record and on stage ... What happened to Bonzo was inevitable unless someone stepped in to fix this situation ...

Celebrities admitting to drug or alcohol addiction was unusual before Betty Ford. Before then it was considered shameful to admit you had a problem.

My father was John Bonham’s doctor (GP). He and his partner had a practice at Eve Hill and another at Woodland Avenue. John came to our house in St. James’s Road in his Jenson Interceptor, probably around 1972/73 apparently for my father to sign his passport application form. I realise that Led Zeppelin 4 had been released by then but he left a signed copy of Led Zeppelin 2 which my older brother laid claim to and now owns. It’s mounted on a wall in his house in Melbourne.  I have a signed photo of John.  Remarkable that he needed to sign (Led Zeppelin) after his name. The J on the signatures are inconsistent but  they are authentic and not for sale. He gave these to my father.  My father moved the family to Dudley in 1964. He died in the mid 70’s  but the family story goes that he delivered, Jason. Whether true or not I cannot say. Might just be that he was the doctor involved in the lead up to the birth. My mother moved from St. James’s Road to Paganel Drive in 1978. John’s mother was a close neighbour living on Woodland Avenue at the time. My last memory of the band was at Knebworth in 1979. Together with 2 mates I hired a Ford Fiesta in Wolverhampton and drove down for the day/night. All ancient history now.

Thanks for the stories and photos!

  5. Saw Paul McCartney May 6 at the Oakland arena. I was never a huge Beatles fan, although I was a Wings fan when I was 12 and 13. But it was a fun show as I knew it would be. Paul's voice is weak, but I didn't care and I'm pretty sure no one else did. I heard some tunes I'd never heard before, and he did some of the hard rock tunes e.g. Helter Skelter in the encore. I felt like his band was deliberately trying to drown him out a couple times, perhaps because his voice was a bit shaky, and this was unfortunate.

    This is not sustainable.

Putin isn't sustainable, fortunately. But I'm sure "John" can find a new gig.

And I'm starting to wonder if you might be a Russian troll as well...I had thought you were just a curmudgeon who is seduced by fringe conspiracy theories.

The British Empire, one of history's preeminent powers, arguably at its height and a major naval force, a "small country"?  Are you just determined to show off your stupidity at every opportunity?

Holy shit! Just wow. I suggest enrolling in a course on the history of the British Empire.

The fact is we won. And the lofty British Empire, in case you didn't notice, is no more.

The big difference is there was a war for independence that was won.

Ukraine has been fighting wars for its independence for many decades. We only had to rebel against a small country separated from us by an ocean. It was a lot easier.

Exactly.  It's not even historically any kind of nation, mainly Poland in the west and Russia in the east.  Hence the usual reference of "the" Ukraine, i.e. "the borderland".

"Historically" the US is a colony of Great Britain. LOL! We even speak the same language.
