  1. Even if both were involved affordable tickets for any of these four shows may prove impossible to find. Tentative pricing plans I've seen call for tickets at $500.00 and up.

    Christ that's pricey!

Can't say I'm surprised though, they were charging £125 for the best seats in 2006 and given the sudden surge in concert ticket prices I expected a much bigger price than the '06 price.

No way I could justify spending £300+ on a concert ticket, no one's that good. And if that's "and up" then £300+ for nosebleed seats is crazy. Surprised people would buy them at that price.

  2. Some shows in the autumn apparently: http://www.nme.com/news/the-rolling-stones/64919

If Bill Wyman's back in the fold I'd really be tempted to go, the only thing is the price. Back when I saw them in Twickenham in 2006 the ticket I got was £90, given the recent surge in the price of concert tickets I dread to think how much they'll cost now. They always do put on a killer show though and it was definitely money well spent in 2006.

  3. Cool. If Duff rejoins G n' R then that means Tommy Stinson can get back to making some music that's actually worthwhile again.

On a somewhat related note, I recently read that Velvet Revolver are back together and are searching for a new singer (again).

Personally I thought Chinese Democracy was worthwhile. I also highly doubt McKagan will rejoin GN'R full time especially as Velvet Revolver are indeed searching for a new singer.

  4. Duff McKagan Reunites With Axl Rose Onstage

McKagan plays with Guns N’ Roses for the first time seventeen years

Duff McKagan joined Axl Rose onstage for the first time in seventeen years tonight, playing bass on (at least) "You Could Be Mine" and "Knockin' On Heavens Door" at London's 02 Arena. (The band confirmed this [on Twitter https://twitter.com/gunsnroses].) Rumors of a full-fledged Guns N’ Roses reunion are sure to come, but Rose has made it abundantly clear that he will never share a stage with Slash again. "One of the two of us will die before a reunion," Rose told Billboard in 2009. "However sad, ugly or unfortunate anyone views it, it is how it is."

Axl did play with original GNR rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin at a number of shows in 2006. "I could see doing a song or so on the side with Izzy or having him out [on tour] again," Rose said in 2009. "I'm not so comfortable with doing anything having more than one of the alumni. Maybe something with Duff [McKagan], but that's it." Last year McKagan told Rolling Stone that he's also open to the idea of working with Rose again. "I'm not going to be one of those guys who's like 'fuck that, that'll never happen.' he said. "It could very well happen. I love Axl. We've been through a lot of shit together that nobody can take that away from us."

McKagan joined Jane's Addiction this year, only to split with the group in September over musical differences. Earlier this week, Slash announced on his MySpace page that Velvet Revolver is auditioning new singers. "It's great to hook up with Duff, Matt & Dave after all this time," Slash wrote. "I'll keep you posted on any interesting developments from those sessions as they happen. The creative juices are definitely flowing. I'm positive something awesome is going to surface soon."

  5. I was at Reading a couple of weeks ago and it was a truly amazing show (even if we didn't get the last two songs due to the power being cut). I'd say that Axl and co do definitely put on one of the greatest live shows around. Definitely as good as Slash's solo shows if not better in some respects.

I read about the train wreck that was the Dublin show. Whilst it is to be expected that Guns won't take to the stage until around 22:30 at the latest its not necessarily acceptable. At the end of the day people need to get buses and trains back home and these usually stop around midnight. So obviously a show that starts at 22:30 will finish at 00:30 at the earliest and therefore you're kind of screwed.

Bottle throwing isn't acceptable in any shape or form but then neither is punishing an entire audience made up of thousands for the actions of two people. Axl could have came back out and given the fans a great show. Instead he deliberately gave them a half arsed performance they paid good money to see by which time no doubt after the 'break' the idiots who threw the bottles had left therefore the only people he as punishing were his fanbase. As a huge GN'R fan and supporter of Axl's musical endeavours it saddened me to read about his behaviour at the Dublin show, especially after they took Reading by storm.

I hope the Birmingham show in October isn't like the Dublin show...

  6. Well I doubt I'll get to see this as it looks like a US only tour , that said hopefully will definitely catch Black Country Communion if/when there's a tour.

I think this Led Zeppelin Experience tour will be great, the tribute CD Jason did called In The Name Of My Father was awsome.

  7. Thought I'd add this news. A UK Tour has been announced for October.

O2 Arena in London: October 13,

    Birmingham LG Arena: October 17

    Manchester MEN Arena: October 18.

    Presale is tomorrow (planetrock.com)

General on sale through Ticketmaster Friday.

A bit annoyed at the lack of the Cardiff date and the fact that London is mid week so it looks as if I'll be going to the Birmingham one and staying in a hostel overnight and an early train back to get back to university on Monday.

  8. Coverdale/Page is up there in my list of all time great rock albums. It's criminally underrated, I love it to bits. Jimmy's playing is brilliant on it. Shame they only ever made one album. Some of the songs are easily as good as Zeppelin.

  9. i have been wanting to buy a boot CD/DVD for ages, in particular Earls Court, but here in the UK i havn't found anywhere that sells them, that is the main reason i DL the CD's, but i would kill for a copy of the Earls Court gigs on DVD...

If you have any local record fairs they may sell boots. It's at a record fair I picked up the Earls Court show DVD.

Also, if you live near London check out Camden Market.

  10. I got my first bootleg the other day, Earls Court '75, 24th May DVD. I usually download the CDs but downloading DVDs can be a pain as they are such big files. So I'm going to keep to collecting the DVDs. I downloaded a DVD of the O2 show though as I've yet to see a copy of the O2 DVD at any record fair.

I also got Nirvana at Reading '92 DVD.

  11. I was a heavy Blackmore fan in my teens, I loved that he was classically taught, but what the hell has gotten into this dude now?? Why is he acting like a Harry Potter character? I don't get it. Anyways... the ultimate Rainbow line-up....

    Blackmore

    Glover

    Tony Carey

    Dio

Rondinelli (since my man Cozy passed)

Agree with you on the Rainbow line up!

He's acting like a Harry Potter character because he wants to is the short answer, which I dont see a problem with, a musician will be their best when they're doing what they want to do. (Not sure about the costumes though!)

More in depth reason why Blackmore's Night formed: (from Wiki)

The origins of the band lie in 1989 when Candice Night was working at a local New York rock music radio station. She first encountered Ritchie Blackmore, then with Deep Purple, at a football game in which he was playing. The two became romantically involved and discovered that they shared a passionate interest in the Renaissance.

After leaving Deep Purple in 1993 and recording the album Stranger in Us All in 1995, on which Night contributed backing vocals and some of the lyrics, Blackmore became interested in the idea of bringing Renaissance music to a contemporary audience. Night's personality and singing ability made her the natural choice as "frontwoman." In 1997 the pair were ready to launch the band, the name being a pun of their own names, and which would consist of themselves plus session musicians.

  12. For me its not a case of him playing the acoustic, half of Zep's music is acoustic and love it. I think my problem lots of others is that with BK it all looks like a nativity play and a joke :, but hey I know I will go at some point and then I really can have an opinion then.

Blackmore is and always be the most exciting guitarist to me that I have seen :)

I agree with you on the nativity play bit, it does look very silly indeed! I also think it cheapens the music somewhat, the first time I saw a live vid of them I thought 'my God this is beyond Spinal Tap!' I also read somehwere that the first few rows of their gigs go to people who dress up in medieval gear.

  13. Good post, I have to say I have read sad reviews of BK and haven't been able to bring myself to see him. I saw the clips you sent and I can see I think he would really like to rock out :).

As time goes by I know if I am ever to see the great Blacmore I will need to go to BK gig thinking oh dear, but the day is coming.

The clip of JR Blackmore you posted is the first time I have heard him. Have to say he has his dads expressive playing, I liked his playing and hope like you the rainbow Rising go to more than :)

In 'Classic Rock Magazine' there have been some really harsh reviews of Blackmore's Night and harsh comments about the man himself such as labelling him a 'lost' guitarist of the rock world. Therefore for ages I stayed well away but after looking recently I see that those comments were far too harsh, he still is a master of the guitar even if it is on an acoustic and he does get the strat out on many occcasions on their albums. He himself is quoted as saying he's doing a Bob Dylan but the other way round and tehrefore he gets abuse! Similar to the Plant/Krauss thing in that people dont want them to make quieter music. I think itd be worth seeing Blackmore's Night for Ritchie's playing if nothing else.

And yes JR Blackmore is also a great guitarist, would rather have a reunion with Ritchie and Dio but as Dio's busy with Sabbath at the moment and Ritchie with Blackmore's Night doesnt seem as though anything involving the 'classic' lineup will happen again.

  14. Another huge fan of Blackmore and his many bands here!

Caught the current incarnation of Deep Purple at Brighton last year and was amazed. May not be the same without Blackmore and Lord but the band are still an amazing live act. There seems to be too much Blackmore vs Morse stuff going on on the internet, IMO both are simply amazing guitarists.

Currently been getting into Blackmore's Night, very underrated band, once you get past the medieval costumes there is some fantastic music. There seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding them similar to the Plant/Krauss project in that people are saying Ritchie should be playing louder music. But with closer inspection Ritchie still does dig the strat out. And his playing on acoustic instruments is also fantastic. Also when it comes to singing Rainbow/Purple stuff Candice is a fantastic singer.

Youtube vids of BN being loud:

    Smoke On The Water

    Black Night

    Sixteenth Century Greensleeves (Only audio)

Really looking forward to this Rainbow 'reunion' with Jurgen Blackmore next year. Hopefully they will play more places than Russia. Jurgen is a great guitarist himself so it should be a really good project.

    Jurgen Blackmore

Hope to catch Over The Rainbow and Blackmoe's Night next year. 2009 seems to be looking likea good year gig wise, "Rainbow" and hopefully something Zeppelin related.

  15. Sounds good! For those who've missed out on UK tickets, there are rumours that they'll be doing larger shows later on - lets hope so!

I sure hope so too! Been checking fan forums and it seems a though they may play the O2 again on 25th and 26th of April, only rumours you understand. My 18th birthday is on the 19th of April and this would be one hell of a way to celebrate!

REALLY hope they add more London dates, can see them selling out a stadium easily - Wembley or Twickenham perhaps? There's also aways the Hard Rock Calling festival in Hyde Park.

Hopefully they'll be an announcement soon, otherwise I shall go and see Airbourne in November!

  16. Sabbath are one of the all time great bands.

Its Dio era for me, went to an Ozzy solo show last year and thoight it was great but then a few months later I saw Heaven and Hell and Dio is by far the better singer nowadays, the Ozzy era is great but the Dio era is sublime.

I'd say Sabbath was best with Dio but Ozzy's solo stuff is amazing. I'm a huge Zakk Wylde fan and love the Ozzy solo stuff for that reason as well.

Hope they come back to the UK, you lucky people in the US get a tour with Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell and Motorhead, hope this comes the way of the UK.

Cant wait for the new Dio era album.

  17. I'd hardly call it reforming.

I'm a fan of both, but GNR much more. Every second of Appetite for Destruction is well worth it. Use Your Illusion II has some good material on there too. I've heard a couple of the songs from Chinese Democracy (Better and There Was A Time), I can tell you that it certainly sounds different... but there is something about it I like :) .

Velvet Revolver on the other hand. They're good and all but have never done anything really outstanding. I know I can go and see them live next month, but I'm still not 100% sure. Songs like Slither are something I would want to see live.

I agree there, the Chinese Democracy songs I've heard (Better, The Blues, Catcher In The Rye, There Was a Time, Chinese Democracy, Madagascar, IRS) sound much better than the Velvet Revolver songs in my opinion and are truly spectacular absolutley amazing. BUT with Guns N'Roses you dont know if Chinese Democracy is ever actually going to be released and with the amount of time Axl has had making that album something would be wrong if they werent great, you also have to go to a gig expecting to be there till the early hours because Axl cant be bothered to go onstage. When they do eventually go on stage from the footage and recordings I've heard it is more than worth the wait. They are a really tight band and work really well together.

Velvet Revolver hasnt done anything amazing but at least they are reliable, come on stage on time and release albums on a regular basis, but the 7 leaked tracks of the new GnR stuff is 10000000 times better than the two Velvet Revolver albums. The weak part of VR for me is Scott Weiland, hes a good singer and frontman but hes not even close to how great a frontman and singer Axl is, I saw the Download festival on TV and Slash, Duff etc were AMAZING but Scott's voice doesnt add the icing to the cake. Don't get me wrong VR agre good but no way near how good the original GnR lineup used to be and the potential the new GnR album may be.

Guns N Roses also play bigger venues and people flock to see them, tickets sell out really quickly but then Axl does have the name on his side but by now everybody knows theyre going to see Axl Rose's solo band.

Really, Axl needs his head checked and get all the old members back - trouble is that would delay Chinese Democracy even more...

Still love both bands though - GnR is great because of Axl and VR is great because of Slash.

  18. Good to see a Dylan thread.

He has to be the best songwriter of modern times (no pun intended).

I was introduced to the music of the God that is Dylan through "Live At Budokan" which blew me away.

My favourite albums of his are Budokan, Street Legal, Inifidels and Desire. I think that Changing of the Guards has to be the best non-Zep track ever written. :D

His latest album Modern Times was a bit hit and miss for me but the opener Thunder On The Mountain is just stunning, worth it just for that.

Any UK fans on here know if the new biopic "I'm not there" is showing at any cinemas anywhere? I've searched all over but can't find a trace of it anywhere. Apparently its really good.
