I think this documentary will be amazing. I've seen the director's other work with "American Epic" and it's an astonishing piece of filmmaking. I think this one on Led Zeppelin should be just as good, if not better. Will be interesting to see what footage is included as I'm guessing some unreleased material. As it goes through some of 1970, we may get the Bath 1970 footage. As a doc, it will probably just be a few minutes of, which makes sense. As long as it's comprehensive and done well through this period, I'll be happy. The idea of being entered at the Cannes Film Festival could be a big deal. If it's that good than perhaps a nomination for an Oscar next year? I'm getting ahead, but possible! Imagine that and the band showing up for the awards?  I would guess Page will have some sort of production credit in this film as it's his band and gave the go ahead to do this among other things and the criteria for the film.

Looking forward to the details of the film and and how it came to be and why the director chose to do a Led Zeppelin documentary and what he wanted the film to be originally. As the film goes through 1970 (at least at some point) is this what Page wanted or what the director wanted? Interesting info for sure. I'm sure Jimmy will answer this eventually with the official release when it happens. I had originally thought when I heard about this doc that it would be comprehensive, but just focuses on the early years when they hit it big, when the doc ends. It leaves this open for more. We shall see and hope we are happy with it.

I'd say yes!!!!.......meaning we will love it or hate it!

Nothing but conjecture on my part, of course, but you have to wonder if Jack White had any influence on the creation of this project. He was the driving force behind American Epic and obviously a well-known Zeppelin fan.  As you mentioned, American Epic was phenomenal itself and meticulously laid out the roots of the music that so strongly influenced Page and Plant.  Just seeing American Epic might have been enough to get Plant on board with them giving Zeppelin the same treatment.  It all sounds so intriguing.  If only this doc was given the 4-part mini-series format of American Epic...

... they started the 50th Anniversary hype-train in motion and got me on board, now I just want to go somewhere.

I think that's why the shoes and snowboard were released. 😋

A while back Vans came out with Iron Maiden shoes. They were limited production only. I got the Trooper Eddie and the Killers Eddie...they'll look nice with the Zeppelin ones.

Zeppelin is the only band that I hold in a high enough regard to ever consider buying a pair of shoes in their honor. On the other hand, that same pedestal makes me feel like it's a bit blasphemous to plaster their iconography onto a pair of shoes.

Like I said, in the end, I'll probably quit overthinking the situation and just buy the damn shoes.

Vans rule! The premier skate shoe for over 40 years. I'll definitely be getting a couple pairs of both styles. This has nothing to do with Hot Topic. Only a stick-up-their-ass-fuddy-duddy could complain about this.

That's entirely possible. I haven't decided if they're kinda cool or just tacky. At the end of the day, I'll probably cave and buy some like I do with just about everything else.

Aimed at the sort of person who has the t-shirt, owns no albums and only listens on spotify. I'm way too old now to wear these sort of things, I doubt I would have worn them when I was younger anyway, not my kind of thing at all

It's all sadly ironic in a way. The band chose the symbols to replace their actual name on the album packaging as a protest against the music business establishment. And now they're plastered all over shoes.

For some reason, I'd kind of like to have the shoes but I can't imagine actually wearing them. Just about the same way I felt about the snowboard, I guess. In the end, I doubt that I'll be buying any of it.

Can anyone give me some advice? Ref the book

i have the choice of poster or no poster

independent bookseller with or amazon without

difference in price £11 .Is the poster worth it for the extra cash?

    Thanks

The poster is cool as a collectible but it has been folded up for shipping. I guess it would depend on how badly you'd like to frame it and how handy you might be at pressing out the creases.

Maybe Jimmy for the 50th will remaster his authorized photo book. I think any object that exists can be remastered. So don't

lose hope. Maybe posters and tour programs, and legit Zep t-shirts will be remastered. Ha Ha.

Ok, this truly made me laugh out loud. I'm glad that I had swallowed my mouthful of coffee before reading it. Well played 😄

Was surprised the poster was folded for some reason and shocked at how heavy it is.

Mine came with a couple posters. They're nice enough but the fact that they came all folded up does make them less likely to be displayed.

More importantly, Reel Art Press got back with me and they're sending a new book. Fine service!

  9. Have people been receiving their pre-ordered LZ by LZ books? The book itself is great but mine arrived with an error in the gold embossing on the cover, like they ran out of gold before getting to the bottom. As annoying as an error of this sort is, I'm more annoyed that I have not received a response from Reel Art Press since I contacted them 3 days ago about it. Hopefully, for their sake, this was just an isolated incident and not a wide-scale problem.

  10. Sadly, my main motivation to buy this SDBS is simply that I bought all the other ones and it seems a shame not to complete the collection. I have TSRTS on vinyl. I have the movie on Bluray. I can stream the tracks in hi-res over Tidal. I've even made my own 12 x 12 print to mount with the others. At least, the Bluray audio disc would have been a nice addition. As it is, I kind of feel like I'd be spending all that money just to have the cool box to set on my shelf with the others.

It is a DVD file. It is still formatted in 5.1...I think "Blueray" only enhances video. So, DVD audio should be the same. Most Blueray players will also play DVDs, as well.

    I may be wrong...

Except that they're also selling this. They just didn't bother to include it in the $200 super deluxe box set. Just the lower res DVD instead. Along with the DVD of the movie instead of the Bluray that has been around for years. Some of the reasons that TSRTS is the only SDBS that I'm still undecided about buying.

So does the super deluxe set only have a DVD rather than Blu-ray

The 5.1 audio is on DVD instead of the hi-res Bluray and even the movie itself in the box-set is on DVD instead of HD on Bluray. Pretty lame for a supposed Super Deluxe presentation, in my opinion.

  13. Another strange annoyance about the deluxe box set.

I went to frame the numbered print for display along with the prints from all the other sets. For some reason, the BBC print is cut at 12.5" x 12.5" (actual album cover size) compared to 12" x 12" like all the other prints. I had a frame left over after mounting the other prints and obviously wanted to use that frame for the sake of convenience and uniformity. The BBC print will not fit in the frame without trimming the edges. Again, a minor complaint but a strange decision in compiling the box set.

At the moment the SD version of the BBC is on Amazon for $149.  A bit steep for me, but will go for it, if I have to!  I have the entire SDs of the studios, so I guess I can't hold back on this release, even though I have the entire BBC in very good quality.  JP's is edited but will be better quality but really want this for the vinyl, book and overall package and just to complete my collection of these SDs!

Has anyone pre-ordered the SD version for under $149 outside of Amazon and/or was the price lower there originally?  I thing the initial may have been $179 a few weeks ago!

I'm curios, what others are paying and hope to get a better price on this set!   Time wise it's probably longer than Coda and PG as that's my guess and hence the price for the SD!

    I pre-ordered from Amazon.  Then there's this...

  15. The whole remastered campaign has been nothing short of spectacular; stellar sound, quality presentations, unreleased gems, and a whole new generation introduced to the joys of Zep (me included!)... it's been a hell of a year, pity it has to end.

Agreed. Many people have criticized the companion material, perhaps justified in some instances. I appreciate the opportunity to own all these tracks with such exemplary sound quality. Even if one only considers it to be "bonus" material...what a bonus. I would have been overjoyed with the remastered catalogue, brand new vinyl, hi-def downloads and all the other great visuals in the box sets. The companion discs are oh-so-sweet icing on the cake.

  16. "10 Ribs..." is a wonderful track. It certainly doesn't mesh with the rest of the Presence material. To me, it sounds like an early precursor to All My Love. Both keyboard-driven pieces unlike much else in the Zeppelin canon. Jimmy's guitar tone on the lead over the acoustic is similar too.

Definitely, one of the most striking and important new tracks. Great find by Jimmy. Bizarre title though.
