Actually, I don't think the December 8, 1984 Hammersmith Odeon concert was ever released in it's entirety for radio. I could be mistaken on that but as I recall the only concert recording that was ever released to radio was the May 11, 1986 Richfield Coliseum concert (which was recorded for Westwood One's 'Superstars In Concert' program). However, two live tracks from Hammersmith - 'City Sirens' and 'Live In Peace' - were used as b-sides for singles.

You'll never see an official dvd release of The Firm Live at Hammersmith Odeon because there's essentially no popular demand for it. Aside from that MTV Europe (or whomever owns MTV Europe's archives now) owns the release rights, not the band. The band could approve or deny a dvd release but they don't own the rights to release it themselves.

I do agree it's a shame that MTV and other networks don't make their archives available to the public. I for one would certainly be willing to support a pay per view or pay per download business model.

Yes, you are absolutely right(2 years later -lol):

Great idea with marketing this material!

  2. Agree IPman. Page is incredibly unique in his style and ability, aside from the purely technical aspects of guitar playing. Give him the ability to overdub and "do-over" and his orchestration capabilities are unsurpassed -IMO.

BTW, have appreciated your contribution to this forum.

Wish I could have been there for the 90's/'98 performance.

  3. The studio version is in a class of its own. I've never tried to equate concert material to studio versions but to answer your question, I think the solo lacks length and improvisation. It is restrained and I suspect or wonder that it may not have been Pages' choice to do so. I've never thought of JP as a "noodler". However, if others somehow appreciate Stairway more outside of Page's role - I can respect that and I would be curious to know why.

I was at the ARMS show. I've seen RAH and the you tube stuff. I like what he produced there - sure he misses some picks, frets and strings but I'm able to see through that and find the intent and emotion which is what makes him so brilliant. If I wanted technical perfection I would listen to the studio album over and over again or see John Williams play Bach.

  4. I agree, Hammer-84 is of excellent quality. They put it out on the radio 30 yrs ago or so and I have a partial audio/cassette recording of it. If they are not going to make money off it, why then is it not out there in some form or another(independently). The fact that it just sits there in a warehouse collecting dust is a complete waste.

  5. HOTWWW, was the best from what I have a limited collection. To me it all comes down to the solo, and when jimmy was more experimental - the longer the better.

Thanks to kinzoso - A new variation to my ears, I enjoyed that:-)
