Another observation based on these clips. I mentioned earlier how animated Jimmy was during these shows. I think the typical thought is that he was not in prime shape during the '77 tour because of his offstage indulgences. However, Achilles Last Stand from 6/14/77 is more than two hours into the concert and he's still moving around like the show just began. He's not slouching or standing in one place or any of the typical signs of exhaustion I'd expect from someone who is supposed to be in less than ideal shape. That was also the last in a string of shows in the same venue, so any initial boost he got from the excitement of playing in NYC would likely have worn off by then. None of this is to say he might not have been augmenting his energy levels between songs, but I don't recall any reports of him running off stage between songs to do lines, and repeatedly using that kind of temporary boost each show seemingly would have caught up with him by the final show in NYC, which was two and a half months into the tour.

I think a lot of people only see the Seattle proshot where Page isn’t animated at all and assume he was like that the whole tour. But 8mm like these, LA, and others from the May and April shows reveal Page was very energetic in these shows, moving around the stage a lot. I think the third leg really gave 77 a bad reputation because most people only see Seattle, a mediocre show, and hear about Plant’s son and assume the whole tour was a disaster when it isn’t true.

  2. For me, the problem with 75 is that since the band was at the peak of their popularity, it seemed like they started to prioritize partying over how good their performances were. 3/24 LA is a big offender, Jimmy is clearly drunk from the get-go and it's absolutely horrible. Plus at a lot of February to early March shows have Jimmy clearly drinking during Moby Dick, like he's playing fine in the first part of the show, then after the drum solo he can barely play. Just listen to 2/28 Baton Rouge if you want a prime example, he starts off great and sounds awesome and everything gets worse after Moby Dick (that Black Dog might be contender for the worst version ever, up there with Nuremberg).

  3. For 75 NQs, you kind of have to look deeper to find the good ones. The most popular one (5/24 EC) is not that great and way overhyped (cause there's a video of it), 5/25's is pretty good but not the best of the year. If you want a definitive 75 NQ, listen to 3/21, there's a great matrix of it that sounds awesome. 3/19 and 3/20 are also great versions.

Dude. The reason that Apollo 11 footage looked amazing is because it was filmed using 70mm cameras. Yes, NASA had the vision and foresight (and the budget) to use 70mm cameras to film portions of the Apollo missions.

Unfortunately, Led Zeppelin didn't hire anyone to film Royal Albert Hall or Madison Square Garden or Earls Court or the L.A. Forum using 70mm cameras.

Also, be careful what you wish for. Every time Jimmy revisits something, it often gets smaller. Look how "How the West Was Won" shrunk. The BBC Sessions still aren't complete. You could end up with a RAH '70 that has the "How Many More Times" medley edited out. Or an edited "White Summer" or "Moby Dick" to make accomodations for the space limitations of vinyl.

Even though RAH definitely wasn't 70mm, 16mm can still look very good. I mean, look at the restored Beatles Let it Be Movie footage on 1+ and a much later example, Nirvana live at the Parmount in 1991. Both were 16mm and look stunning. While not 70mm quality, RAH can definitely be restored to a higher definition. Speaking of 70mm, did any band even use 70mm film to film any concerts? The only example I have ever heard was Pink Floyd on The Wall concerts in 1981 and that's just what Roger Waters says (Still refuses to release it though).

  5. I wouldn't mind a Led Zeppelin Bluray with higher quality RAH and unedited TSRTS videos. Plus since they hold more, they could put more of Earls Court and Knebworth, and maybe some unreleased stuff. I mean a colorized version of Denmark 1969 would be cool, especially since color photographs exist so no guessing needed. Bath 1970 is definitely something that could be put in and maybe some of that rumored 1969 footage (Texas Pop and Central Park), although rumored footage is something for a completely different thread.

  6. I mean, a video of it might exist depending on how much footage they have of them at the Texas International Pop Festival. I don’t think we know for sure how much of them was really filmed and I don’t really know if that will ever be released to us. We do have a few minutes of it but no Train unfortunately.

  7. I believe there was a discussion earlier that had shown evidence to prove all 5 nights were filmed and most likely multitracked, but the only video and good audio we have is from the 24th and 25th. The 18th, 17th, and 23th all only have pretty bad sounding audience recordings, despite being much better performances overall imo. Hopefully we get an official Earl’s Court release (other than the small bits on LZ DVD) because I really like Tangerine from the 18th, where all four members sing the chorus in a beautiful harmony.

  8. But it wasn’t press clippings that said this, in fact the press clippings of the show don’t mention the song at all. The person who claimed it was the keyboardist of the opening act who claimed JPJ borrowed his organ for the song. He named YTIGC specifically and said it was the second last song(probably an encore) which is pretty far from You Shook Me, which was also played, but toward the beginning of the set. Although, it could be wrong since he could have mixed the songs up (i.e. Texas Pop Festival footage calling I Can’t Quit You Babe as You Shook Me). I understand your doubt since the press made these mistakes before, but the person who let JPJ borrow their keyboard probably would know for sure (At least I hope he knows since I really want this to be true).

  9. I kinda knew YTIGC was never played live in 1968 because of the lack of organ, but it’s always kinda fun to consider that some songs that we think were never played live, could have been played in concerts we don’t have recordings for. As unlikely as it is, it’s always exciting to think about the possibilities. For example, imagine if Houses of the Holy was played once in a random 1972 show that we have no recordings of. As unlikely as it is, it’s cool to imagine it being possible.

  10. Hey everyone, long time Zep fan here but never posted until I found out about this. Before I found this out, I always believed that Your Time Is Gonna Come was only played once in the WLL medley in Japan 1971, and maybe once or twice in 1968 that we don’t know about. To give some background info, I was looking at the set lists of different tours to see if there could be any interesting concerts to take a listen to. That’s when I stumbled upon some interesting info on the Wikipedia page for the group’s 1969 Summer North American Tour. It stated that Your Time is Gonna Come was played NOT as part of a medley, but in FULL, one time on August 14th in Austin, Texas. In disbelief, I checked the info on the show on the official website, and it said that according to the opening act of the show, JPJ borrowed their Hammond organ for a version of YTIGC live. Obviously, I couldn’t find any audio recordings cause if their were, people would have probably heard it by now. I can’t find any other mention of this and the only thing I’ve ever seen people say was that Japan 1971 was the only time. Does anyone have anything to say about this?
