I was at that Northampton MA show.  Pearl Street is a small club.  Maybe 500 people.  All standing.  I was standing right in front of Jones.  Fantastic show.  The next day the local paper had a story that Jones and the band hung out in the bar at the Hotel Northampton across the street late that night, well after the show ended.  The reported talked to all of them and said they were there at around 1 - 3 am or so.  I wish I still had my copy of that story from the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

Are you sure it was the Daily Hampshire Gazette? I searched their archive a while back and didn't find anything.

New Led Zeppelin mix set for Molineux debut
    10th May 2024

Wolves vice-president and rock legend Robert Plant CBE has linked up with the club to enhance the pre-match atmosphere at Molineux with a bespoke Led Zeppelin mix.

Plant, Led Zeppelin lead singer and life-long Old Gold supporter, has been long-associated with the football club and the rock band’s world-famous songs are regularly heard inside Molineux on a matchday.

Between 1968 and 1980 Led Zeppelin released eight studio albums, creating a legacy for Plant as one of the greatest singers in rock music and leading to his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

For years since, Led Zeppelin tracks, including Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir and Whole Lotta Love, have serenaded Molineux on a matchday, while, in his vice-presidency role, Plant has been a regular presence at Wolves events and matchdays.

Now, he’s returned to the studio with award-winning producer Gavin Monaghan to create a new custom-made edit, amalgamating Whole Lotta Love and Kashmir, which will be played as the teams walk out at Molineux before kick-off on a matchday.

Monaghan is a multi-platinum music producer, who has sold in excess of 20 million records, produced multiple UK number one albums and singles, and worked with the likes of Grace Jones and Celine Dion. He is the current BMA Producer of the Year and his studio, Magic Garden, is the BMA Studio of the Year, both for the second time.

His music has featured in multimillion dollar advertisements and major film and television productions such as Peaky Blinders, the Twilight films, Austin Powers and Gangs of London. More recently, Monaghan finished mixing his band Mama ft. Antonella's first album.

  5. Led Zeppelin Is Flying High On The Charts Again

    FORBES | Hugh McIntyre | Apr 14, 2024

Led Zeppelin broke up as a band more than 40 years ago. They only released music for about a decade, but during that time, they produced some of the most exciting, boundary-pushing, and commercially successful hard rock in history.

To this day, the band continues to sell well, and millions of fans around the world can’t seem to get enough of their music. This week, on the Billboard charts, the group sees one of their most important albums climb, while one of their biggest smashes finds its way back to a ranking.

Led Zeppelin’s Mothership is up slightly on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. That ranking lists the most-consumed full-lengths and EPs in the U.S. each week that Billboard classifies as hard rock when it comes to genre. The roster uses a methodology that combines streams and sales to highlight popularity, not necessarily what’s the bestselling or most-streamed, specifically.

Mothership improves from No. 17 to No. 15 on the 25-spot tally. The set has previously ruled over the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, and it’s now racked up 341 stays somewhere on the list.

Released in 2007, Mothership is a compilation of some of Led Zeppelin’s biggest and favorite songs. The living band members chose the tracks, pulling from their eight studio full-lengths. Mothership reached the top 10 on charts all around the world nearly two decades ago when it was first shared, including in the U.S. and the U.K......

  8. The legendary Sunset Sound is in the news lately, due to problems with homeless encampments in the area. I was just at the studio a few weeks ago for a couple of hours and met with the owner. Hopefully this situation gets resolved in the near future. Here's a photo I took in the room JP used to mix LZ IV (in Feb. 1971). Their three studios are an amazing time capsule.   -Sam

    ==============================================

Sunset Sound is one of the last great L.A. recording studios. To lose it would be a disaster.

By Jessica Gelt | Staff Writer
    Feb. 20, 2024

There are two ways to look at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Cherokee Avenue in Hollywood. It is an area with a large unhoused population, and for the past 64 years it has been home to one of the country’s most iconic music recording studios, Sunset Sound.

Now, one truth about this particular bit of real estate threatens to annihilate the other.

According to multiple news reports, Sunset Sound might go out of business because of the dangers posed by a nearby homeless encampment.

The homelessness crisis in large California cities often becomes a scapegoat for the disruptive, divisive chaos of early 21st century life. San Francisco is in an “urban doom loop” because of homelessness, not, say, because of the staggering inequities wrought by rising techno-authoritarianism. Los Angeles neighborhoods are unsafe because they are overrun with homeless people, not because of soaring housing costs enabled by NIMBY elites that push people out onto the street.

But the problems experienced by those living or running businesses near large homeless encampments are quite real. Sunset Sound’s owner and studio manager, Paul Camarata, has publicly described escalating troubles — a burglary, two instances of arson and discomfort expressed by visiting artists.

Recording studios have, historically, been built and operated in rougher parts of town where rent is cheap and warehouse-type spaces are plentiful; their owners know something about security. This is why Camarata’s cry for help should not go unanswered by city officials tasked with humanely taking care of disadvantaged people in need of shelter, food and health services.

Especially given that homelessness is not the biggest threat Sunset Sound faces. That threat is existential and highly documented: namely, the digital revolution has done to the analog world of art, media and communication what the industrial revolution did to agrarian and handicraft economies a century before. In the case of the music industry, the advent of Pro Tools recording software in the 1990s and the rise of music streaming services in the early aughts — with its cataclysmic loss of income for artists and studios — irrevocably changed the business.

For years cost-effective digital technology has enabled a seismic shift away from the legendary temples of carefully crafted sound that facilitated the creation of some of the greatest records of all time, and into the garages, bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms of indie artists and superstars alike. Making music, once the very definition of artistic collaboration, now more often than not occurs in isolation with a vast library of plug-ins designed to mimic the sounds of various recording studios.

Sunset Sound is among the last holdouts of a once-thriving music-business ecosystem that is taking its last gasps.

If we care about the craft, art, history — and future — of music, its survival should concern us deeply.

Sunset Sound represents the apotheosis of the recording industry’s heyday. It is also a sentimental favorite because it is among the last family-owned old-school studios in a city once awash in them. The state-of-the-art, three-room studio was founded by composer Salvador “Tutti” Camarata, who played trumpet for Jimmy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. In 1956 Walt Disney hired Camarata to form Disneyland Records. Tutti built Sunset Sound for that purpose and eventually recorded audio there for a number of Disney classics, including “101 Dalmatians” and “Mary Poppins.”
