  1. Hi Ladywhitesummer! I can't wait to see this exhibit put together either. I don't really have much in the way of memorabilia, and I so love seeing other people's things and hearing all their stories. It just thrills me to pieces! :cheer:

The information packs all about the exhibit are just about ready to be mailed out - so aena27 you're on my list!

If anyone wants one please let me know. You can pm or email me your street address, or if you'd rather receive it electronically, I will send it that way. Just let me know!

Knebworth House sent me their 08 brochures - they arrived this morning. So just one more item to arrive and they'll be ready to post.

Other good news - a local artist has done a painting of the band for us to raffle and he emailed to say it is finished. Yay! That means I get to keep it on my wall until August! No complaints from me then!! ^_^ He donated the painting too so all the money it raises can go to the ABC Trust. He's a super super guy!

You can see his work on his website here: aktiv-portraits.co.uk

  2. Yes I have heard people like it there too. That's to be expected really, some like it some don't. Everyone liking it is not required - in the end I only want one person to like it. ;)

That negative comment I posted just stuck in my mind for it's brutal assessment!

  3. Don't be too bummed Julie, there were lots of very nice messages from Australia, so I am sure your fellow countrymen that wrote in did you proud. :)

The book is just going to be given to him without a lot of hoopla - and I just don't know the specifics, but that's how I wanted it. No pictures, no fan in his face...I thought that was the nicest way for him to receive it. And I won't be meeting him. I just wanted to say thanks and that is all.

  4. 1. How long have you been listening to Led Zeppelin? 36 years

    2. What would you say is your favourite album of theirs? It's all one giant long album to me.

    3. Your favourite song(s)? Wearing and Tearing, Tea For One, The Rover, Gallows Pole, The Song Remains The Same, Tangerine, That's The Way, In My Time of Dying, Dazed and Confused, Since I've Been Loving You, The Rain Song, Thank You, Bron Yr Aur, Black Mountain Side, Hey Hey What Can I Do, When the Levee Breaks, I'm Gonna Crawl, For Your Life...I better stop before I name all the songs!

    4. In terms of design, what would you say is their most powerful album sleeve? III

    5. What colours or colour schemes would you generally associate with the band? In terms of color I think of them as an explosion of every color.

    6. During which period of their career would you say they were at their creative peak? It's all a peak to me - I loved it all.

    7. In general, what do you think would be the most effective means of introducing the band’s music to the younger generations? All it needs is enthusiastic fans to keep passing it on. There will be fans in every generation that will in turn make new fans - just hand it out!

    8. Who or what made you start listening to them? I walked into a room and Black Dog started to play. That was all it took. Robert's voice followed by that powerful guitar - I was captivated for life.

    9. Apart from the obvious iconic image of the zeppelin, what do you think is the strongest form of imagery associated with the band? Anything connected to Jimmy Page - his images, symbols, dragons, bow aloft - to me he is the embodiment of Zeppelin.

    10. Finally, in no more than five words, what do you love about Led Zeppelin? Their freedom, chemistry, and raw emotion.

  5. I think he'll like it to songbird.

Maybe they're jealous? I think it's beautiful. He'll love it!

I'm glad you think so! I don't know if people who dislike it are jealous so much as they are just in a different mind frame about this kind of thing. I have been told that it will make Jimmy feel stalked, but people may have that opinion because a lot of times when fans send letters and things they can seem (or actually be!) a bit on the creepy side, and if that is in your mind I can see how they would think it's not a good thing to do. I did get some messages that I felt were a bit over the top, but when I did, I explained to people why I couldn't use their message asked them to write something else. Some did, and some got mad and yelled at me on emails for a while...

I took a lot of care to get this right, and I think it is right. All the messages are lovely.

  6. Whhaaat? Why would they say that?

Well not everyone is going to think this is a good idea, I understand that. Some people find it stupid, or embarrassing, or whatever. To each their own...but hey, at least they said it was 'beautifully polished' so that's something!

  7. Fantastic idea, and fantastic project. The results are stunning. I am sure he will love it.

Thanks for taking time to tell me, it really means a lot to me to know people like it. Apparently it has been described by someone on another forum as a "beautifully polished turd." Ouch! Oh well, can't win 'em all... :D

  8. It's framed in a glass case, so I don't think he's gonna let you...

Anyway...thanks to people who have been contacting me about loaning things - and please don't be shy! I do get folks who think we wouldn't be interested in their stuff if it isn't Jimmy's shirt or something, but that's just not the case. The more things we have to choose from the better.

  9. It was just the same when I was there, it's a magical place, and then when you add the Zep connection it feels even more magical. I hope you can come for the exhibit. :)

I should have the information packs ready soon for anyone that might loan something. Still waiting on an insurance quote - chasing people for quotes is so dull....I seem to spend half my life on the phone or computer after one thing or another.

  10. I initially typed in as Zepster, but it was taken, realizing that the ster was close to my name, steve, i then became Zepsteve. If you can find a story more boring than this one please let me know!

Why is that boring? It's fun to know why you picked it. Not boring at all. :)

  11. Tom, if I replied thanking you for your message it should be in there. I had a few from NZ, so I don't know if I will remember what you said unless it was something very out of the ordinary, or something happened that made me remember it on the day I got it. Sometimes they stick in my mind.

How could he NOT like it? It sounds and looks really amazing. :) I'm sure he'll be absolutely thrilled and surprised that someone went to the trouble to do something like that for him.

Anyway, I remember the initial thread about sending messages for the book, and I think I meant to send you one after I took the time to actually write something to him, but then I got busy and forgot all about it and the deadline!! :o :'( Now I'm kicking myself of course.

Oh well, it's still a beautiful thing for him to have, even if my message isn't in there. ^_^

Oh I wish you had sent your message the ocean, and thanks for saying you think Jimmy will like it. I appreciate every person who takes the time to tell me what they think. I am sure he'll like the messages everyone sent, it's only my bits I get the jitters over....

  12. AllisonAdler I love Zanoni - hope you can make it over. Chatting to someone else that has read it woud be fun. I've never met anyone who has read it. A few have read Vril.

It is a really grand setting Steve, when were you there? Are you in the UK? It was great walking up to the front of the house - the day I went the sky was clear blue and the sun was out, and I stood there waiting for the doors to be unlocked thinking that the band had stood right where I was for a photo. B)

Where did you take your pics eternal light? We'd have to have them by the 31st of July at the latest if you decided to let us borrow them, as the space is limited and nothing can be added after the exhibit is put in place.

  13. Wow that sounds terrific Steve, thanks so much for being willing to contribute. I just knew the Zep collectors would help out, and if you're going to ask people to borrow their fabulous Zep stuff, it deserves the grandest setting you can get!

They invited me to come look at the library a few months ago, and it was so cool to be in it, especially because the house was closed and I could have a really good look with no one else around. I'm fan of Sir Edward's too. But even though I was in this really posh setting, I had to have a little fan girl squeal knowing that Jimmy had been in there, but no one minded...

Thanks for the ideas myledzep - that's exactly the kind of things I need people to help me think of. Dave Lewis (His site is Tight But Loose) has kindly put us in his magazine this month, and is going to meet with us and help out. He's just a super guy. I posted on FBO, and so did another friend who I think is on this board too, and he has had some response. But it may be time to remind everyone again, as the 02 Show was taking up everyone's attention before now - mine included!

  14. Even if you don't own any memorabilia, I could still use ideas...we have to fill a program with interesting things to read, we could use all the help we can get to spread the word far and wide so we can get really good pieces to display, and even if you thought what you might like to see at an exhibit would be fun to know.

I am setting up an account for the exhibit soon, so even a donation to help with the cost of setting it all up would be fantastic. I have an artist who is donating a painting of the band to raffle, and the man who made Jimmy's book is donating some leather notebooks to sell in the shop - we want to raise a really nice sum for the ABC!

I should mention we are on Knebworth's website if you want to have a look:

And the ABC Trust is here: http://www.abctrust.org.uk/
