I've been doing a little research of those dates by venue to see if the sticker was meant for another band touring at the time - no hits.

apparently the Schleyerhalle in Stuttgart opened only in 1983.

    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle

The guy the venue was named after, Hanns Martin Schleyer was shot dead by the R.A.F. in October 1977.

also the "tour dates sticker" looks just like a cheap photoshop job, even in angle.

no LZ german tour in 77 !

  2. Just sent out a request to Roger Berlin on his own thread "Magazines and Articles by Roger Berlin" at the LZ Master Forum about the press article from May 1982's BRAVO magazine showing pics from the live jam with Foreigner. I hope he will respond and finds the time to scan and post it soon there. I remember Robert looking really good in those pictures in black clothes while Lou Gramm seemed to wear a Robert Plant "1980 LZ Over Europe" rip-off version of green T-shirt and blue jeans ;)

  3. Yes Steve, that looks like a pic from the same show and in those Hammersmith pics Jimmy does play his B-Bender Tele

whereas i remember from the Munich shots he was playing a black Les Paul (probably a Mick Jones back up instrument).

Thank you for helping to clear this matter.

now, where are those Munich Jam pics ?

i know i saved the magazine in my parents home, but that is currently about 600 km from here..

  4. now, do you mind if i start a little ramblin on this topic ?

i do remember in 82 being a german 13-14 year old teenager and full on big time into Zep then.

and i used to read those kiddie zines then, because i couldnt get good info on rock music elsewhere (not that those zines made much sense). so what i def remember is that a then weekly zine called POP/ROCKY did run a short report on this jam with a B/W pic,

probably the week after it happenend. i can't prove this with a pic, because i dont have it anymore, neither did i find it anywhere online yet. then a week (or maybe two) after that, a competing teenie mag called BRAVO did run a whole 2 page story with full color pics on Foreigner jamming with Jimmy & Robert onstage in Munich and even had a quote or two (i think from RP) about the event, going sth like (not the exact words-just my memory): " Oh, Jimmy & I were just in Munich by chance when Foreigner came to town and they are truely among the best of rock bands these days and also good friends-labelmates, so we went backstage and then were invited to join in a couple of numbers for an encore. we did "Lucille" and it was real good fun indeed, makes me want to go back onstage again soon!"

now i remember Robert on the double page color pics with the Foreigner live band wearing cool looking black leather pants and a black t-shirt, along with white sneakers, Jimmy wore a grey suit and white scarf in my memory. seeing on the picture above as reposted from the Dave Lewis book, it doesnt seem to come at all from the same performance. it rather looks like a nice Jimmy shot from ARMS with a photoshopped-in Robert to me.

I've tried to look into the BRAVO online archives for May 1982 to have some proof for this, but they are only as far as 1980 with their archive and anyway it would cost some cash to download (whole issues available only).

but perhaps Roger Berlin could help us out here ?

my point is, the pic above is NOT from the JP/RP/Foreigner Munich jam,

but there def are some good pics around in some mag collectors archive :)

  5. Here`s a version of a well known tune, performed by the man who actually wrote it.

look at who arranged this (and quite possibly played keys and absolutely played bass on it) :

this being a much more heavy version than the yardbirds rendition with clapton,

i suppose it was recorded after it had been a hit. anyone know more about this ?

  6. "Grim Reaper" is the song I'm thinking of, didn't see it on youtube.

Regarding the show, I remember really digging it, I thought they were gonna be big!

It was very crowded. The bass player, if I recall, was wearing white satin, remember this was right in the middle of the disco-era. That drummer really wanted to be Bonzo (don't we all) but of course he fell far short (like everyone else) I think they suffered the dreaded "sophmore jinx" with the second album, I don't recall a third LP, am I correct?

Gracias for this concert memory, Badgeholder!

well i only got into detective in the early 80s while searching for swan song music.

after two studio albums and a live promo LP, accordingly the band broke up while recording album # 3

yes indeed it was the disco age, just take a look at that 2nd album cover!

but the music sounds great to me today: heavy, funky and dark :)

the most complete discography i could find for the band is here.

does anybody remember Michael Des Barres' band Silverhead from the early 70s ?

The guitarist here was a certain Robbie Blunt.

for Grim Reaper, somebody must have read your thoughts, it was just uploaded a few days ago.

  7. Thanx for pulling out those memories Deborah J!

uuuh, Competition sounds like a better Bad Company.. at least two brits in this american band.

i also have this swan song live promo LP in my shelf sitting here since 2 decades,

think i'll give it a spin later :)

hey Badgeholder, do u have any memories from the concert to share ?

  8. Edit: Wrong one. Here is what i meant to post:-)

    Detective (Recognition)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ze4mJ2WY0e8

what a nice mistake, cos 'One More Heartache' has so many similarities with WTLB.

and the overall sound of the drums make one believe that it was really mr. page's 'fault' that one remembers

mr. bonham's sound so much. i've always wondered how deep jimmy's involvement with Detective really was,

as some of those guitars sound soooo familiar.. is there any proof he came to play some himself ?

and of course it's a shame, that post LZ he never really went into studio production other than for his own projects like for instance mr. jones did.

  9. You've given me some excellent leads. The poster you described sounds a lot like the

one produced for Hamburg, which makes sense as I think Lippman & Rau promoted the

entire tour. I can reconfirm that. I'll have to get back to you concerning recordings as

I don't have my list with me at the moment. I know that the Lund, Sweden concert is

in circulation and I have quite a few other Firm concert recordings '85-'86.

My pleasure, Steve. Yes the poster i´m sure is the same as for the hamburg gig, it had the "new band for 84" tag & names and most definetely it was a Lippmann & Rau tour of germany, just like i think all previous LZ concerts here had been arranged by L&R agency. i believe Fritz Rau was a good friend of LZ thruout their whole career, thus it was natural to work with follow up projects.

had the pleasure of meeting the man once shortly in Wiesbaden in the mid 80s. he is considered a true rockn roll+++ legend, worked with everybody in the biz and pulled a lot of strings in the entertainment sector here.

  10. Very privledged! I'm exchanging PMs with Arms of Atlas concerning this concert. I have

a few questions about it, specifically if the Kongress Halle was demolished and if the Alte

Oper opera house was built on the site. I also wanted to know if he had seen any press,

posters, or flyers for this show. I have the poster for Audimax in Hamburg ("The New Band for 1984" with their names) but I think each date may have had a poster issued.

    each

    Hi Steve,

as far as i know the alte oper is not on the same place where they tore down congresshalle, but is a real old opera as the name suggests. built in (google) 1880, got burned down in 2nd WW2, reconstructed and then reopened for (mainly classical) concerts on august 28th 1981. http://www.alteoper.de/_en/indexstart.html

about flyers for the gig, def there were posters and flyers for the frankfurt show, i remember handing out flyers myself as a holidayjob for the local ticket agency, thats why i got the very first batch of tickets for that gig. i might still have some flyers (with my ticket?) somewhere.

posters were not much, i def remember seeing one at the ticket office. kinda big colored letters on dark background, the logo/artwork had not been released, but came with the album

another thing is, upon cleaning up my basement a couple of months ago, i found an old cassette recording we made with sony walkman plus mic then. it´s close to 90 minutes and doesnt sound half bad on my ghetto blaster in the kitchen:) back then we thought we were the coolest bootleggers ever to record a famous band whose album had not even been released, but of course we never did anything much with it - but we listened! i am not much of a torrent freak - are there any decent recordings of that gig floating around ?

  11. Only your second post I see - nice to "meet you". I would like to exchange PMs with you sometime concerning that concert and the venue. Meanwhile, here is a link to five front

row photos I posted in Photo Forum (if you haven't seen them already):

    http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?showtopic=3069

hey i was at that show as well, only 16 years old and very much impressed by the musicality of the band, only turned off a little by paul rodger's hawaii shirt..

it was one of my first major concerts ever and i made it to row 3 or 4 ;) jimmy looked a little sick in the beginning of the show, the pics u got here must be from a a few songs into the set when things had settled a bit. oooh, listening to the overture (gustav holst's "planets" as i found out much later) as the room darkened and the taped classical music ending on the climax and stage lights switch ON & there really is jimmy page onstage and they start off with "closer" was very very uplifting for my young heart then. the closer riff became an instant classic for me. of course, no one knew midnight moonlight by then or any other band tune as the album was released months later, but the tunes and solo spots were really great for me & me school friends.

i recall getting to the hall as early as afternoon, cause we wanted to try & see if we could get in for soundcheck already.. to our own non-belief we actually somehow managed to get in the hall !! and attended part of the soundcheck - but it was roadies or technicians doing it, not the band itself. still very kool tho for me to see jimmy´s brown telecaster before the actual gig! now, if i only could find my ticket stub, believe it or not - i had number 001 !

  12. hola, just found this really kool live (?) mashup version of two of the best bands of planet earth.

i know that some of you won´t dig it and perhaps will call it unholy,

but it had me really rolling on the floor, my walls echoing with laughter:
