Is this Montreal 1972 you are talking about or Montreal 1975? Either way, kudos to you for the balls and brains to sneak a tape recorder in back then!

Stryder, used to take tape recorders in alll the time.  My teenage objective was simply to be able to listen to the show a few times later on.  Posterity was not on my mind as I would have taken better care recording, used best tapes available and stored properly. Many of the shows I recorded over.  I know, wow.  Not Zep but many, many other late 60s thru mid 80's from Yes to Trower to Crimson to Ten Years after and in between.  The recording mentioned above is 72 altho I did also tape Mtl. 75 and a couple of shows NYC 77.

An early show on the debut RP US tour in 83 (Detroit), had two recorders. One tucked in the back of my pants covered by tshirt and one in my boot just in case.

  2. Yes, my tape is one of the two.  The one with lots of drop outs.  Traded the masters back in the eighties for a rp concert I was desperate for that had a performance of Far Post. In hindsight, I shoulda kept them. I've located the original cassettes in Pennsylvania and am planning to get them back and over to a friend who has expertise in mixing to see if sound quality improvement is possible.

  3. Listening to the RO ref mix, what a gas! That is most likely Bonham singing, regardless of what Jimmy says and Bonham is hilarious on this...they should have kept this version for the album, funny as hell.

Sounds like Jimmy Durante, maybe he was brought in for the session. His "swansong" before he died in 1980. ;-)

Also sounds like a precursor to the death metal cookie monster vocal style.

  4. Waited in the freezing cold from 6pm Friday night until box office opened Saturday morning to get tickets for this show. Cold as f***, but the camaraderie among fans made up for it. Taped the show, copies were traded sometime in the 80's for a Plant show in Newcastle. I can't find the original tapes anywhere, so I haven't hear them in a long time, but if this boot is from that tape, to let you know that it was recorded on a Philips cassette recorder in mono using Maxell medium quality yellow/orange label cassettes from the 9th row centre. I will continue to search for the tapes and post back on this topic to update. Was unbelievable to hear Kashmir for the first time. PG was not out yet. This, for what its worth...

  5. Interesting Bad Company Article posted on Pittsburgh Gazette website today

"It all fell apart when John Bonham died," Mr. Rodgers says of the Led Zeppelin drummer. "We lost a great friend and a great guy. I mean, everybody loved John, and it was such a tragedy. And I think the heart went right out of Peter at that point. And very soon after that I decided I was going to come off the road. So we put the band to sleep for a time."

  6. Too Loud from Shaken 'n Stirred.

Am I dreaming or was Black Sabbath War Pigs sampled at the end of Too Loud from RP's 3rd album, Shaken 'n Stirred.

When listening to it on vinyl back in the day, my mind was etched with the last 5 seconds of Black Sabbath's War Pigs (section at end where the tape speeds up).

Listened to it today on CD and this ending was not there. Maybe I am losing it.

I no longer have the vinyl, so am wondering if anyone can confirm the song did end with a bit of Sabbath sampling?

Listen starting at about 7:40 in and that was the ending to Too Loud as I recall.

  7. Both band and audience had a great time in sold-out Ottawa last night.

They brought the house down to be sure.

Didnt get In the Light or Achilles, but was a fullsome and satisfying set nonetheless.

If a full review is written, I will post it here.

A few clips from the show, apologies for inconsistent quality,
