Moonhead (20Jul69 "Omnibus' What If It's Just Green Cheese?")40 years after the last Pink Floyd studio session for the BBC, Harvested is proud to present this upgraded version of "BBC Archives 1967-1969".This release required a lot of work and took more than 6 months to complete. The purpose was to present each track in the best possible quality. The process was long because it was performed on a track by track basis. For each song, we had to compare many different sources in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each version and then decide which one(s) to work on. The mastering work was done very carefully, trying to repair every flaw that could be corrected... and there were a lot (tape warble, crackles, drop-outs, incorrect speed, etc).Instead of giving all the details for each single track (we want to avoid sterile debates about lineage and sources), we prefer the results to speak for itself. We think people should judge by their ears; listen to your sonically-preferred versions and compare them to the ones on this new Harvested release. We can confidently say that every track is - sonically speaking - an upgrade compared to the best previously circulating version, including the master transfer of the 25Jun68 session (which offered complete versions but from a damaged mastertape) and the recent Celestial Voices tracks from the 12May69 session. We made the choice not to include the various DJ intros in order to focus on the music. There are some exceptions such as Reaction In G and Set The Controls from the 25Sep67 session, but for the remainder the DJ comments were considered too distracting and so we edited them out (e.g. the Tomorrow's World tracks). Also, it's important to note that all tracks are presented in true mono, the way they were mixed by the BBC (there's no "fake stereo" nor "sound expanding" effect). This collection not only includes the sessions for BBC radio, but also studio sessions for BBC TV shows and documentaries making it more complete than the previous releases. The number of tracks is now 30; 14 are covering the 1967 sessions with Syd (on CD 1) and 16 are dedicated to the 1968-1969 era with David (on CD 2).Cuesheets are included for those who like to burn CDRs with all the required text info.Enjoy this 40th Anniversary Edition !MOB (December 2009)Harvested Records

  2. By far the best sounding source of Aqualung is the Steve Hoffman remaster version on DCC. Here's an explanation from Steve himself. The deal with Aqualung is this:Great album, average recording. What I tried to do, was to give you the true sound of the master tapes with a bit of "Steve enhancemnt" thrown in for a more "Breath Of Life" sound. Now, I can't go back in time and tell the mixer of "Aqualung" to turn the bass guitar track up, but I would never EQ in a bunch of floppy rumble down there just to get some extra boom. I mean, *****, it took me years just to get the real tapes from Ian's house.MFSL used the American EQ copy (production master) to cut from. This version already was compressed compared to the master tape, and some primitive EQ added in. Now, it is a know fact that MOST (but not all) music fans LIKE compression. They respond well to it. It makes stuff louder and more "exciting". And of course, adding the MFSL "smile curve" helps, too. Just adds that oomph that doesn't exist in real life. Same reason most folks love new "remasters". Louder is everything...Sigh.For me, using all of the tone changing stuff that was added to the EQ dub, and then adding all of the MoFi EQ on top of it, with some wacky half speed mastering on top of it....Well, I just didn't want to distort the original sound of the hard-fought master tapes that way.I like the way the DCC version sounds. It has natural vocals, and a tonality that is missing from ALL other versions. The problem with Rock 'em - Sock 'em bass, is that it is like having a subwoofer turned on all of the time. After it's all over, you have a headache. Folks can dial in some thump down there if they want. The important thing, is that they can dial it OUT again when they grow weary of that sound! One other little point:People who listen to LP's (I'm one of them), have a really tough time describing what they are hearing, tone wise, because no one else's LP playback system will match theirs. MC Carts have their own wacky sound, as do phono preamps: How RIAA accurate are they? And the interconntects, etc. Are they tailoring the sound? Hard to say what is accurate, when the LP playback system isn't.The best way (if you care), to tell if your LP playback is "in the ballpark" tone wise, is to compare your DCC CD of "Aqualung" with the DCC LP of "Aqualung". After adjusting for the LEVEL difference, Do A sync-up and A/B them. The tone of the music should be darn close; they were when we cut them. If the sound is too far off from the CD to LP, then something is out of whack, probably with the phono gear.:)

  3. Another tasty one I'm drinking this evening.Torpedo-bot.jpgSierra Nevada Torpedo Ale is a big American IPA; bold, assertive and full of flavor and aromas highlighting the complex citrus, pine and herbal character of whole-cone American hops. alcohol content 7.2% by volume yeast Ale Yeast beginning gravity 17.3 Plato bittering hops Magnum ending gravity 4.2 Plato finishing hops Magnum & Crystal bitterness units 65 dry hopping Magnum, Crystal & Citra malts Two-row Pale, & Crystal http://www.sierranevada.com/beers/torpedo.html

  4. Balance of Terror has to be my favorite episode. Enterprise vs Romulans episode. The good old days when the Romulans were actually a good enemy.

The commander of the Romulan ship was later cast as Spock's father, Sarek.

And his mother was Jane Wyman, Ronald Reagan's first wife!

    Alaskan IPA

    Style:

India Pale Ales are characterized by intense hop flavor and aroma. Thisstyle possesses medium maltiness and body while also being crisp anddry. Citrus flavors and aromas are moderate to very strong.

    Flavor Profile:

Alaskan IPA is honey gold in color with a fruity, citrus aroma. Anenticing blend of hops and our dry hopping process, in which hops areadded directly to tanks during fermentation, give this brew a veryintense, complex aromatic character with a refreshing hop finish.

    History:IPAangel6packweb.jpg

India Pale Ale is a style of ale originally derived from a colonial thirst for British-brewed beers. When shipping beer to the colonies, particularly India, thought had to be given to the length of the journey. By initially brewing beer to high specific gravities it could continue to ferment during the journey. Larger amounts of hops were also added for their preservative properties and resulted in a golden beer with a hoppy flavor.

    Ingredients:

Alaskan IPA is made from glacier-fed water and a generous blend of thefinest quality European and Pacific Northwest hop varieties and premiumtwo-row and specialty malts. Our water originates in the1,500-square-mile Juneau Ice Field and from more than 90 inches ofrainfall each year.

    Recommendations:

The pronounced hopflavor makes this style of beer refreshing and a deliciousaccompaniment to grilled prawns, spicy food and as an aperitif.

    Specifications:

Original Gravity: 1.057, ABV: 6.2%, Bitterness: 55 IBU, Color: 9 SRM

  6. TRY~ Janis with BB and The Holding Company.

It's been a constant in my brain for DAYS now! Ever since I was blasting The Monterey Pop Festival.

How do you unstick a song without sticking to another? It's not easy.

Maybe listen to another song of her's that doesn't quite have the aural grasp that The Holding Company has.

Possibly her Full Tilt Boogie Band ? ;)

  7. Lucky you. I would love to take that tour as I work on all kinds of vehicles and equipment for a living.

BTW those Jet Bikes are built by a company right here in Louisiana.

Yes, Dzldoc you would love it as any man would. Especially the workshop that has anything needed to restore and work on the vehicles. Jay works on his cars as well as a staff who helps him.

Are you implying that a male who isn't a motorhead/car junkie is less than a man?

I like pretty flowers, I suppose I lean a little on my feminine side for that ehh?

  8. ^ Wow, you're fall color avatar is nice. (It was a different Fall Color shot than the previous I just posted.
