  1. Read what I posted again and note he's also said Baby, Let's Play House was the catalyst for wanting to learn the guitar. That song wasn't released until 1955 - more than two years after they'd moved in. Note also he has said his father purchased his first guitar (an acoustic), then later he got a paper route as a teen and purchased his first electric guitar. This "intervention" story sounds good in print and on film and may even be true but everything else suggests if he did find it when they moved in it wasn't significant at the time and he apparently doesn't consider it to have been his first guitar either.

I was just going by what the man said in his own words and voice. Like you posted, he could have ignored the guitar until he heard the song. In the end, for me it doesn't really matter when or where he found or was given his first guitar since he did pick one up and found his lifelong passion.

  2. Well, Jimmy was only eight when they moved in so I find the oft-repeated anecdote about prior tenants having left the Spanish style acoustic guitar behind to be questionable. It's possible but perhaps his parent's simply purchased it for him two years later, in 1955, after Elvis Presley released 'Baby Let's Play House' - the catalyst for Jimmy wanting to become a part of rock music and learn to play. In his teens he acquired his first proper electric guiitar as well as a sitar (the sitar prior to George Harrison he'll tell you quite proudly) and asked his father if he would ask an Indian co-worker of his to show Jimmy some basics. Later, but still in his teens, Jimmy attended a Ravi Shankar gig with a girlfriend and afterward they met with Ravi, who wrote down some sitar pointers for him.

Jimmy himself said that he found the guitar at his home when he and his parents moved, in 'It Might Get Loud'.

    He called it an "intervention".

  3. I thought Page had it recalled because of the dubbed in audience noise which was taken from a sound effects record. I found a copy back in the 70s in the budget bin at Woolworth's.

Any thoughts on this two disc collection? I have plenty of vintage Yardbirds on vinyl but none on CD so this record looks like it might be a nice way to fill that gap.

I have this CD set and it is a good representation of all three "eras".

  4. What made me happy today?

Eating a really tasty teriyaki/grilled pineapple cheeseburger today at lunch after being outside, watching my son play in a soccer tournament. The weather is hot and the sun is unrelenting. I love my child and want him to excel but I really hope his team loses tomorrow so we don't have to show up on Monday morning.faint1.gif

  5. Thanks Leah for posting that. He did look cute in this photo but it is also a reminder that the white bucking bronco he was riding was kicking his backside in a big way. It just saddens me. He was not doing well at all and it would not let up for a least 6 years.

  6. Damn straight Strider! biggrin.gif

I remember talking my dad into letting me see 9 1/2 Weeks when it came out and I was 15 or 16. He brought his girlfriend along and I sat a few seats down from them. (I really wanted to see Mickey Rourke).

MPAA ratings are easy to get around esp when it comes to renting movies so in 2005, renting Fast Times wouldn't be too hard to do.

  7. You know as sure as there is oxygen in your lungs, that as much as it would be painful to see Robert, Jimmy, and JPJ limp around on stage the way The Who (or what's left of them anyway) are, nearly half the people here would shit their pants to make it happen anyway.

On one hand, they're your favorite band and you want to see them, on the other they're your favorite band and you don't want them to embarrass themselves and then suffer the negative press that it would attract.

I doubt very seriously that Zeppelin would gather negative press at this point. Even if they did, who would listen? I would love to have the opportunity to see them play live, limping around or not. That wouldn't be embarrassing, that would be f*cking amazing. They are doing pretty damn well for their age.

  8. That I am! For you to know that I would guess you or someone you know is too.

I am a Top Gear addict. I have over 100 episodes saved on our dvr.

Here is a real picture of me. I hate having my picture taken so I am the photographer in our family. That explains this badly executed, self portrait of me taken yesterday.tongue.gif

  9. Whew!!

Glad that's cleared up! I wanted to say something about it but just did not have the gentleman's vegetables to it! blink.gif

I wanted to ask about the year and weather conditions that day. Humid and windy?

You must be a Top Gear fan.

That couple must have spent a fortune on hairspray.rolleyes.gif If there needs to be a scapegoat for global warming, let's just use them.biggrin.gif

  10. Very cool Tom!

Uah, Miss Melanie, that hair!! But it's an endearing photo :)

Gotcha!! You didn't think that was me, did you?biggrin.gif

Isn't that a funny one? I found the pic on the website Awkward Family Photos and had a good laugh.

That poor child. What were those parents thinking?

Maybe I will post a real photo of myself at some point.

  11. Here I am with the hubby and our love child, JimBob.(Named after Jimmy and Robert, of course.)tongue.gif

We had a coupon for a family portrait at Walmart.

****I keep waiting for someone to call me out on this. whistling.gif

  12. I believe this is the picture you're looking for! :)

Thanks for the picture. Wow! That is brave of him. I thought he didn't know how to swim.ohmy.gif

Only he could wear such a swimsuit and not look like a douche.tongue.gif

Thanks FireOpal for the Rolling Stone link.

I love watching Jimmy play in the Yardbirds compared to Zep. He looks like he has to fight to contain his energy.

Is it me or does the sound get turned down at the 18 second mark?

  13. Here is a very detailed link about Jimmy's symbols on his pants-the 4th album etc..

    My link

Here is a pic of the site of the Equinox book store-kinda small pic though. It's doors as the occult bookstore were closed in 1979 and in 2001 it became 'theTea Room'

Very cool David. Thanks for sharing that. So his moon sign is Cancer, which is my birth sign. Just saying... I love that it looks like a "69".wink.gif

  14. The Equinox was at #4 Holland Road. It's since been many things - beauty salon, etc. I've got photos in a box somewhere.

Oh shit! Our flat was a few doors down then. We were at 11 Holland Road. We had reservations for a different flat but were switched at the last minute due to the driver being over an hour late picking us up from the airport so we were "upgraded". If you happen to find the box, let me know, please.
