  2. RIP Gloria Lynne
    Jazz singer Gloria Lynne dies
    Oct. 20, 2013, 1:54 PM EST

    WENN

Jazz star Gloria Lynne has passed away just weeks before her 84rd birthday.

The singer died after suffering a heart attack at Columbus Rehabilitation Center in Newark, N.J., on Tuesday.

She was set to celebrate her birthday on November 23.

Born in Harlem, New York to a gospel singing mother, Lynne won the Apollo Theater's amateur concert aged 15, before finding national fame in the U.S. by appearing on Harry Belafonte 's "Strolling '20s" TV special in the 1960s.

She joined her peers Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles and Johnny Mathis on the country's jazz club scene and secured hits with ballads including "I Wish You Love" and "I'm Glad There Is You."

Lynne continued performing throughout her life, giving her last show in August at New York's 54 Below venue.

  3. ^That is a good idea. I would like to have some of his jewelery... If I could afford it.

What a great idea. Can you imagine what chaos that would cause. People would be lined up for miles. I would like one of his little blue blouses. Oh, I would give my last dime for the blouse he wore when he sang SIBLY at the MSG for TSRTS.

Don't know why Strider's post showed up twice. My notebook is extremely sensitive.

Anyway, what do you put in your tuna salad, Strider?. It is probably something very exotic. I just use the tuna in the bag and dump Hellman's mayo on it, a little sea salt, and chopped onion. Quite yummy to me.

  5. You know, I love Earl's Court 1975 because Robert and Jimmy had their hair fluffed out to the max and they also had on some lip gloss. Two more beautiful creatures have never walked the earth.

Thank you Anjin for the lovely poster-picture.

  6. Young Guitar (November 2013) (Japan)

Thanks for this Steve. I know you will be getting a copy. I was always fascinated by the love the Japanese people had for Zeppelin. I was watching a video of P/P in Japan. When they showed the audience, well, they were absolutely manic!! I am happy to see Jimmy is front and center on the mag's cover.

  7. It's a great theatre...if you're ever down in L.A., I'll treat you to a movie there.

Earlier tonight, Director Richard Donner attended the screening of "The Omen" at the American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Richard then did a Q & A. Besides "The Omen", he is well known for the Christopher Reeve "Superman" and the "Lethal Weapon" movies. He also directed tons of television shows and to a sizable part of the population may be most beloved for being the director of the original Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", starring William Shatner. Coincidentally, tonight was the 50th anniversary of the first air date of that landmark episode...October 11, 1963. Here is Richard Donner with a friend tonight.

Earlier this week, I also went to see "Gravity" a second time...this time in 3D IMAX at the newly refurbished and reopened Chinese Theatre.

Blew me away even more the second time...pottedplant, get ready for a heartstopping rollercoaster ride tonight. They had the space suit costumes worn by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in the lobby of the theatre.

OMG- I couldn't wait, so I went last night. The movie is still in my head. The visual experience in that 3D Imax, or whatever you call it, was out of this world (no pun intended). I can't wait until we can talk about it. The story the movie told will have a lot of different interpretations and perspectives. Everyone should see this movie; your heart will be the better for it.

  8. I like a Tawny Port, but I realize many people don't like ports or sherries. If that is the case with you, try a Sauternes or a Madeira wine instead.

Some people recommend one of the German whites...a Gewürz or Riesling, but I have never been able to find one that convinces. An Eiswein might work...I've had it with chocolate but haven't tried it with cookie or peanut butter yet.

Speaking of chocolate, I recently acquired a bottle of chocolate wine and am waiting for the right opportunity to try it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I love port and sherry. I love Sandeman "Rainwater." I think that would do fine with our peanut butter and cookie butter treats. Let us know about the chocolate wine. Should be interesting. The Spanish sherries are the very best - almost like drinking brandy.

  9. Italian grinders after a long day of shopping with my girl.

And I found at Trader Joe's something called 'Cookie and Cocoa Swirl' butt

Ahaaa, planted, you know Strider is bringing that to the party - Cookie Butter and some type of wine that goes well with such things, crunchy stuff..

  10. I've got something better than peanut butter...Trader Joe's Cookie Butter. In both crunchy and smooth styles.

    ,

OMG, bring it on!!! ebk and I will be in peanut butter heaven. What wine would you suggest to go with this delicious treat that would make us all so happy? planted will love it, I think.
