  1. Scarlet, it looks to me like you're in a "Turkish" setting.

Not a bad guess, because although I'm in Gaza City, the middle-aged woman is from Serbia and the younger people are her children with the man smoking a pipe, who is Palestinian. So there is an intersection between the Middle East and Europe in the photo.

  2. Curious to know how people are posting pics here. When I clicked on the "image" icon, it asked for a url. I don't want to put a url to my computer (?) I want to upload an image. Am I not understanding something? Why can't I just upload a photo? any urls with my photos would be to something like my facebook page, or other sites that have my personal info (?) again am I not understanding something?

  3. Recently binge-watched Season 2 of "Orphan Black" via Amazon instant video. Awhile back binge-watched six and a half seasons of "Supernatural" in two and a half months; had to buy the dvds.

These shows are so much better binge-watched because you don't forget what happened in the previous episodes.

Didn't like "Game of Thrones," too many beheadings and dismemberments.

  4. People taking pictures at his gigs might annoy him and all that, but really, it sounds he his just a wee bit sensitive about his art. I hope if people start crowdsurfing that he has a similar reaction because they piss me off a lot more compared to an excited dude or his chick taking a selfie

I understand people wanting to take a picture, and film a song or two, but people need to learn to just enjoy the moment. I am convinced these relentless Iphone people don't really enjoy the events they go to but just want to brag about them to their friends. I think it's great that, after the excited "chick" and *her* dude wouldn't stop after being asked politely, he did what he had to do. A concert at a venue is a private event; in the US anyway it is not considered a public space, and there is no right to film or photograph it.

  5. I read the same anecdote in a book called John Lennon in New York. It said Bonham was sick from using strong heroin and told them they could have the rest. Or something close to that.

Perhaps we should pause for a minute and ask ourselves if this makes sense. A serious junkie rarely gets sick or overdoses; this is more common among occasional users. I do not see this incident, if it did occur, as evidence that Bonham was a heroin addict. The incident probably never happened though, because if someone gets sick from something would they really give it to their friends?

I would also like to inform Kingsozo and anyone else that there is no such thing as an accredited writer. There may be professional associations for writers, but they do not grant any kind of "accreditation" which in the US anyway would be seen as a frightening challenge to free speech. Also, the fact someone has written a lot of books does not make that person more credible. It might make the person less credible, as it takes a lot of time to thoroughly research a subject and if someone is just cranking out one book after another one has to wonder how much actual research took place.

  6. Tarot cards is on my list along with christ, flying saucers and ghosts.

I find Tarot cards to be visually intriguing and would like to have some. I believe Carl Jung and others thought they had significant symbolic meanings. Just because something isn't scientific doesn't mean it doesn't have some type of value. I don't believe in fortune telling through reading cards, as they are standardized and people are individuals, but the cultural/artistic history of Tarot cards does intrigue me.

  7. I thought about trying to write a parody of the lawsuit and submitting it to The New Yorker magazine. Then I realized it parodies itself:

    1. Randy California had to be a genius because Jimi Hendrix discovered him.

    2. Led Zeppelin should be punished for "falsifying" the "history of rock and roll."

    3. "Exemplary" damages should be awarded to keep other nefarious rock and roll thieves from doing same.

    4. Spirt was a ground-breaking band that invented psychedelia.

    5. The Led Zeppelin font can be stolen because tit-for-tat is a good way to get your point across.

    6. As others have pointed out, apparently the lawyer for the plaintiff is a character from a children's novel.

  8. I really hope you are going for some sort of comic relief with your statement. It is the professional equivalency of saying that because you took a Physics course in college that you are sufficiently competent to refute Lawrence Krauss' criticisms of string theory.

So I guess we should just throw out our trial by jury system? I mean it relies on ordinary people to make sense of complicated legal arguments. I guess the US Constitution is crap then.

I am continually amazed by these type of comments and why they are allowed here.

  9. I had not listened to Spirit's tune in quite some time. I had dinner with friends last night and decided to come home and give another listen. As a paralegal, I feel the suit will be dismissed. Just found the attached article....

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/oliverherzfeld/2014/05/21/spirit-v-led-zeppelin-analysis-of-the-stairway-to-heaven-infringement-lawsuit/

I agree with you and think the lawyer who wrote this article is wrong. I've listened to all of these songs and there is no comparison between what happened with Whole Lotta Love, Dazed and Confused, etc. I doubt highly that Zep will settle this lawsuit and doubt even more that they would grant Randy California a writing credit.

  10. Taurus and Stairway are not the same song. My guess is that the purpose of a lawsuit is in hopes that they will get a settlement just to make them go away. But I doubt that will happen.

I wish my grandfather were alive. He was a musical copyright lawyer and he would get this b.s. dismissed ASAP.

  11. I don't think Zep has ever allowed songs to be licensed for a TV show. (?)

If they did allow songs to be used in a show, my guess (just my opinion) is that it wouldn't be to that show, more because it's a little cheesy than because it deals with occult. I like the show and saw several seasons but it is a bit corny and it's hard to tell if it will hold up over time. Also, if they were to release songs to TV shows, the price might be too expensive for a typical TV show music budget.

If Jimmy were trying to play down his interest in the occult, he probably wouldn't have released the Lucifer Rising sound track on his web site fairly recently.

Good point about Lucifer Rising. As for Supernatural, I later found out the price tag was $500,000 for Zeppelin; out of their price range I'm sure. As for the show, it's distinctly less cheesy than...oh, a hundred other tv shows I could mention...

Our little town has a small fair every second Sunday. Two little old ladies had a stall with jams, cakes etc.Standing out like dogs you know what, was a mint vinyl copy of zep 1 plum label. How much?A dollar, love! She said 'do you like music,I have a lot of Being Crosby. That ones all that noisy stuff'Thanks dear.

Amusing. I wonder where she got it?

  12. This is a follow-up question to something posted here awhile back: On the tv show "Supernatural," Led Zeppelin has been referenced frequently in episode titles ("Houses of the Holy," "In My Time of Dying," "What is and What Should Never Be" and more) and the character of Dean Winchester occasionally says "Led Zeppelin rules!" Yet, they never play Zep songs. I'm watching the show on DVDs and have now made it halfway through the 6th season, plus I have seen some more recent episodes, and I haven't heard a Zep song yet, despite the fact they occasionally play classic rock songs in the soundtrack. They made great use of Styx's "Renegade" in an episode in which they were pursued by the FBI, and have also played Kansas, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bon Jovi on the show, sometimes as music Dean plays in his car. It's part of Dean's persona, his interest in classic rock and classic cars. I'm beginning to think there must be some type of copyright issue going on, but what could it be? It can't be money because the show has to pay money to play all those other classic rock tunes. I now believe that someone in Zep must have objected for some personal reason. Perhaps Page was afraid of having Zep tunes featured on a show that deals heavily with the occult; maybe he's strenuously trying to get rid of the occult associations to Zeppelin? What do you think or know?
