  1. Baker never did anything that impressed me the way John did. I know he's a talented drummer, but even so he leaves me cold. I know a little something about drumming and I listen to some of the best in the world, Bill Bruford, Billy Cobham, Terry Bozzio, Simon Phillips, Mike Portnoy, Vinnie Colaiuta to name just a few so it's not like I have no taste at all when it comes to my opinion of him. He seems like an egotistical asshole with a bad attitude where other drummers are concerned.

That is a KILLER shot early too one i've never seen before- any idea where/when?

I imagine this is what it looked like way back in early 68 in that tiny room, Talkin about extraordinaire, here's a track that came to us we got together a long time ago couldn't afford a big room we got in a little room and started playin and one of the first things that we did made up our mind that we should stick together sun rain or shine and this was it.

    Robert Plant Feb-13-1975

  3. That is the weird part, whenever I saw Page in the 80's in The Firm or solo he always played beautifully, very well. However for the Atlantic 40th he really sucked balls, just crappy, yet when I saw him in Phoenix for Outrider either just before or just after the 40th he was again brilliant. Just my opinion but I feel, during the 80's, when he was on his own he could cope better and did not get as wasted pre-show. I think during the Atlantic 40th in particular he was really feeling the nerves and just got too damn drunk pre-show. I really believe it is as simple as that. Page suffers from horrible stage fright, plus with the added pressure of a Zep reunion and he just cannot handle it sober, at least not in the 80's.

I don't agree with your assessment of Porl Thompson as a "back-up" guitarist, he was a second guitarists which allowed P&P to perform songs they could not with only one guitarist. I was at both the 95' & 98' tours and as a guitarist I had my eye on Jimmy & Porl the whole time. Unless Porl is magic or Jimmy was miming to a backing track, Porl cannot play a solo around the 12th - 15th frets while playing rhythm on the third fret. Jim played great at both the 95' & 98' shows though I preferred the 98' show because Jimmy's playing was, IMO, the best playing he ever did live, period. Jimmy 98' - 2000' was the best live Jimmy, this was, for me, Jimmy's peak, where technical proficiency met emotional projection and created absolute musical brilliance.

I saw Jimmy on both Page and Plant tours in Boston and again in Mansfield Mass. I had great seats for 2 of the 3 shows I saw, 5'th row center aisle in Boston and 12'th row in the middle of the bowl at Mansfield. Jimmy was brilliant both nights but much more so in the second tour. I was blown away at well he played. I didn't think Jimmy needed Mr. Thompson for the first Page and Plant tour and was pretty good but hot damn! Jimmy was on Fire during the second tour.

  4. If the 55 year old me could travel back in time to 1978, I would give the young David Coverdale the following advice:

"You are a rare baritone in a sea of tenors. You are one of the few men in rock who can sing the really low notes with authority. Use the lower part of your range for dramatic emphasis and leave the high-pitched shrieking to the likes of Robert Plant and Glenn Hughes. As a woman, I will tell you there is nothing sexier or more primal than a deep-voiced man singing in the lower part of his range. So work those low notes baby! You've got the vocal chops, you're a handsome bloke and you have presence. You don't need to resort to cheesy mannerisms to grab audiences' attention."

Coverdale didn't "resort" to being cheesy, those mannerisms are all him, it's his natural persona.

  5. Coverdale sucks always did always will. If it were in the cards for Zeppelin to have one last real hurrah and put out one more great album it should have been with this material and included Jones. If they had put this album out with Robert and Jones it would have been killer and to this day it would have been a fav Zeppelin album. Instead, we got Jimmy, who is playing very well but certainly going through the motions with Coverdale. This was a missed opportunity to do a true comeback album. The unledded stuff pales in comparison to what could have been.

  6. The key to liking Coverdale Page is learning to be accepting of Coverdale's voice and his sometimes stupid lyrics. Once you can deal with that, the rest nicely falls into place. I'll never be a Coverdale fan, but I now quite like his contribution to the album, apart from that one song, which will suck in perpetuity.

I will never "get" Coverdale, I hate his whole demeanor and his voice does nothing for me at all. Jimmy plays some really great stuff on that album though.

  7. Senza offesa ma il prossimo post solo post in Italiano e quelli non conosce possono correre attraverso software di conversione. Il tuo post non ha senso.

No offense but next post just post in Italian and those not fluent can run through conversion software. Your post made no sense.

What I got from it is this, He agrees with the post he quoted, The tour sucked because the band wasn't in that good a shape but fans will excuse that for the most part and he also says that an essential element for a good concert is for the band to fun onstage which isn't happening on this tour.

  8. This is all about the perception of time and how it feels to, the audience, the band and the home listener. Think about the difference between being there in the audience, being backstage and listening to this at home.

The Kid says he hates drum solos not just Bonham's but all drum solos so he's gonna complain no matter what, but most of the audience is cheering and seems to be having a good time, Why? because they are seeing Led Zeppelin. I think its a very small portion of folks who were bored to tears. So, if you're there, 18 to 30 minutes out of the entire time you're there isn't that long perception wise unless you have absolutely no patience at all. Think about how time is flying for the band. For them, being backstage for 18 to 30 minutes would fly by because they want a break but have the impetus to get back out there. Most likely 18 minutes turned out to be too short a break so it turned into 30.

Time flies when you are having fun, So for most of the audience who are having fun its not so bad. Time can really fly when you are very rushed and busy so for the band these breaks probably felt very short. Sitting at home by yourself, time will drag far slower than if you were there.

You also have to take into account the amount of energy it took Bonzo to pull these off every show, boring or not its no easy feet and more appreciation and respect needs to be levied on his behalf. :watchingyou:

  9. Its a great album, Jimmy's playing was as good as ever. The riffs are funky and powerful the solo's are soaring but Coverdale ruins it for me. I really don't like his voice at all. If you had Robert singing all these songs it would have been far more enjoyable and memorable. To me watching Coverdale is like watching Rich Little do a bad impression of Robert Plant. He seems so pompous and conceited I just can't take it.

This should have been the project he did with Plant

  10. Yea it's pretty shocking on first listen. Obviously he doesn't use it in a derogatory manner, just quoting the original for what its worth.

    ^@0:59

    ^17:08

C'mon sath, you know I know he was just quoting the original song. Its such a sign of the times and strange to hear it because he'd never even attempt it or get away with it in today's PC world.

  11. Montreux 3/7/1970 on this wonderful 45th anniversary!! Definitely one of the best shows! Wish it had been professionally recorded instead of Royal Albert Hall, but both are freaking killer!

I have a question about this show. Was this the show where Page was wearing plaid pants? I'm sure he wore them more than once, but when you search images for Montreux 1970 he is wearing them, but on the cover of Intimidator he and Plant are wearing completely different clothes...

Were the people in the audience (in the front) sitting on the floor? Seems like Zeppelin were way too aggressive on that show for anyone to just sit there. lol

There would have to be some editing to remove the racist lyric Robert sings regarding the game 7up. Anyone else notice it. I have never heard him use that word before or after.

  12. playing LIVE ,enjoying himself with his band, letting the feeling of his creation grow & expand in the moment , while dancing and playing at the sametime!

(not to mention usually more than just buzzed !)

IS WHERE HE IS SHOOTING FROM!

its obvious he is not concerned about being technicaly perfect , his mind is playing 6 licks ahead enjoying where its going!

    wouldnt YOU be sloppy too?

i bet if he wants to make a point to defend himself , "practiced "& grab a stool, sit down & concentraited & played " alongside most any ledgendary player" .

"JIMMY PAGE" would likely NOT be the sloppy one !

BUT THAT would likely be punishment for him & NO FUN!
