  1. Having a nice Mother's Day, spending time on the water and dinner tonight with the family. Hope all of the moms are getting spoiled today!

Here is a pic of me and my sweet mom who passed away October 11, 2014. So thankful to call her mom. ❤️

I just noticed this photo, Dd. You and your mom look great! (You look like you're in your 30's!)

  2. I almost never watch TV, but I just finished watching an old mini-series from the 80's called "North and South" based on a novel by John Jakes. I liked it a lot -- fantastic cast -- and now I'm looking forward to seeing Part 2 and Part 3.

  3. :o ebk that's amazing! Which did you like better? Which players did you see? I've been watching for so many years, and have been in England, too, just never got the chance to go to Wimbledon in person... yet. US Open would be an incredible experience, too. I love New York. French Open is unique in the surface, and now that other players besides Rafa are starting to win, it's more interesting. Plus it's France, right? I hope you get a chance to see the Aussie Open in person :)

I hope you get to see the Aussie Open, too, ebk.

I've been to Wimbledon once. When I was a boy in 1982 I had a front row seat on Court No.1 when McEnroe defeated McNamara in the Wimbledon semi-finals. It was an amazing experience -- McEnroe's skill level was unbelievable. A few anecdotes: McEnroe was generally well-behaved during the match, but he would occasionally say rude/derogatory things to the audience. For example, on one occasion when the crowd laughed at something irrelevant and stupid, McEnroe loudly sneered "British sense of humor!" and laughed. (A woman in the crowd promptly yelled back at him "At least we have a sense of humor!") At another point during the match, McEnroe gave my older brother (who was sitting next to me) a very angry and dirty look when my brother took a picture of him as he was preparing to serve. (My brother quickly lowered his camera) Great, great times. Anyway, I also saw two matches at Roland Garros in 1997 -- that was also a great experience.

  4. I'll be driving out to Indiana tomorrow to attend the Indianapolis 500. I'm not a big racing fan, but some of the people I'm going with love it. During the race I expect to be bored, half-drunk, and enjoying the smell of burned rubber and hot exhaust.

  5. Spending vast sums of taxpayer monies on a library seems silly to me in the age of high speed internet, laptops, smartphones, and tablets. You can find almost any book you want online. The bricks and mortar model is something that will not be here much longer.

Charles, it seems like you're outnumbered here -- haha -- and for good reason.

  6. This thread should be what made me happy this week. I've been working on getting a children's book I wrote published and it came out this week.

    WINDSONG WENDY is now available.

That's great!! Did you illustrate it as well?

  7. Thank you, Dd. Yes, Arnaud's and Commander's Palace both ring a bell -- I've eaten at those places..Thanks for all of your advice -- you've provided me with a great culinary roadmap. Oak Alley is definitely worth a visit. Talk soon.

  8. ^^

Dd, thank you for your comprehensive answer -- you've just educated me about the NO restaurant scene. The only places you've mentioned where I can remember eating are Brennan's and Mr. Ed's Oyster House. I'm not a foodie (at all) and during my initial NO visits in the mid to late 90's I made a point to visit as many famous NO restaurants as I could. (I'm ashamed to admit that I can't remember most of their names or what I ate.)

My favorite plantation house near NO is Oak Alley -- well worth a visit -- but there are several others that I love as well. I'm planning to visit New Orleans and Mississippi next month with my girlfriend -- she's visited NO but never seen the plantation houses -- and I'll let you know about any notable events during our trip.
