  1. These are great photos. Thanks for posting them! Attached is a screen shot from the 1970 TV interview he did with Robert. He looks very handsome and thoughtful, giving his full attention to the interviewer.

  2. Scylla--what amazing b/w photos! We're all going to need fans and smelling salts and fainting couches. It's good to see activity here. Otherwise the Robert thread might surpass this one.

Here's a mid 1970s picture. There's an aura to this one of serene dissipation or dissipated serenity. A very Zeppelin vibe.

I love how he smiles with his eyes.

Agreed. He looks so youthful. Too bad he never wore his hair pulled back in the 1960s or 70s--it's a great look on him. And there don't seem to be many hat photos either.

Here's another one from Berklee. I like how he is facing in a different direction from everybody else. Thanks to StairwayRemainsTheSame on the Berklee thread for posting this picture there.

  4. I found at the record store a picture disc of an interview with Jim McCarty and Chris Dreja called Afternoon Tea. It's from 1982, just before Box of Frogs. It's the interview, or one of them, in which Chris jokes that Jimmy Page was so eager to join the Yardbirds that he would've probably played drums.

Not a rare item but interesting, to me anyway. The back features reminiscences of Shelly Heber, who was president of the Yardbirds' fan club--Taspey--in the late 1960s. Her comments are in some cases pretty negative, probably not the sort of thing that would be included on an album sleeve today. I've attached a few pics including the text of the paragraph that mentions Jimmy.

  5. This is a follow-up question to something posted here awhile back: On the tv show "Supernatural," Led Zeppelin has been referenced frequently in episode titles ("Houses of the Holy," "In My Time of Dying," "What is and What Should Never Be" and more) and the character of Dean Winchester occasionally says "Led Zeppelin rules!" Yet, they never play Zep songs. I'm watching the show on DVDs and have now made it halfway through the 6th season, plus I have seen some more recent episodes, and I haven't heard a Zep song yet, despite the fact they occasionally play classic rock songs in the soundtrack. They made great use of Styx's "Renegade" in an episode in which they were pursued by the FBI, and have also played Kansas, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bon Jovi on the show, sometimes as music Dean plays in his car. It's part of Dean's persona, his interest in classic rock and classic cars. I'm beginning to think there must be some type of copyright issue going on, but what could it be? It can't be money because the show has to pay money to play all those other classic rock tunes. I now believe that someone in Zep must have objected for some personal reason. Perhaps Page was afraid of having Zep tunes featured on a show that deals heavily with the occult; maybe he's strenuously trying to get rid of the occult associations to Zeppelin? What do you think or know?

I don't think Zep has ever allowed songs to be licensed for a TV show. (?)

If they did allow songs to be used in a show, my guess (just my opinion) is that it wouldn't be to that show, more because it's a little cheesy than because it deals with occult. I like the show and saw several seasons but it is a bit corny and it's hard to tell if it will hold up over time. Also, if they were to release songs to TV shows, the price might be too expensive for a typical TV show music budget.

If Jimmy were trying to play down his interest in the occult, he probably wouldn't have released the Lucifer Rising sound track on his web site fairly recently.

  6. I live sort of in the boonies so I can't imagine seeing anyone famous at the store or out and about, much less Jimmy Page. Those are all great pics!

Nothing has been posted here for nearly a month, so I'll post one. Probably a repeat but sorry, going through over 500 pages of photos on my phone would take forever.

This is from what I'd call his Marquis De Sade phase with the wonderful lacy sleeves. Chris Dreja was quoted somewhere (my memory is terrible so I don't remember where) saying that he remembers Jimmy around this time talking about the Marquis and "perversions", which I found pretty funny. Jimmy seeming naughty even to his rock star peers!

  7. This topic is a place to post photos of the interesting things one discovers at brick and mortar record shops.

People should be finding lots of great music this coming Saturday but also all year round.

Here are a few I found recently:

Banish Misfortune, the 1st LP (1977) by hammer dulcimer player Malcolm Dalglish and multi instrumentalist Grey Larsen. It's lovely.

St. Radigunds by Spirogyra, a reissue album of acid folk or prog folk or whatnot from the early 70s. I think it's going to prove addictive.

And a copy of In Through the Outdoor with its original brown wrapper still on it. No photo since everyone knows what that one looks like.

Has anyone else discovered something amazing?
