FM radio needs a complete overhaul across the country!
It's so aggrevating hearing bands like Boston, Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, 80's & beyond Aerosmith, 80's and beyond ZZ Top, Kansas, Def Leppard, and all the other crap bands, mixed in with the same ole' Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, etc., etc. - songs.
It's going to take someone with deep pockets to swoop in, buy a major FM radio station, and then put the right people in place that know what real music is and know what listeners like myself want to hear.
I never listen to FM - I haven't in more than 10 years. Why have someone else dictate what I want to listen to?
Why is it that we will never be able to hear Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix? Instead, we're force fed Come Sail Away 100 times in a week - F'n ridiculous!
Hey Hey, now. I'll have you now that Def Leppard are an amazing band.

This thread is just too great for words

I wouldn't want this thread to get off track but the worst stairway solo might be celebration day's
Is that because it's just exactly the same as the studio's solo?

I have heard the 71 LA Forum show but not the 71 Japan one, I should definitely check that one out. In any case, audio only both bands are to me a push live. Led Zeppelin is far more improvisational and expressive, while The Who seems a little more more focused and tight... except for Keith Moon who's all over the place yet still on beat. To me The Who was just visually more exciting and that's why I like them more live. They were a bunch of raving lunatics on stage: smashing equipment, screaming at each other and the audience, beating and blowing themselves up and so forth. Just more to my taste visually, hence my stance on this and my regret not seeing them live at their peak. Saw them in 2000 before Entwhsitle died and while still good, they were far past their prime and it just ain't The Who without Moon to me. Led Zeppelin's music was so complicated in studio and meticulously produced by Page that it was very difficult to recreate some of it live. My favorite song by them all time, When The Levee Breaks, was to my knowledge never played live and that likely factors into my thinking on this.
To me, the who smashing up their instruments shows that they don't care about their instruments. Pete Townsend smashing his guitar is like saying 'This is just a piece of wood. I could easily buy another'
Zeppelin cared about their equipment, which means they have a bond with their instruments. Page wouldn't even think about smashing his Number 1. It's special and unique to him.

This one is easiliy one of the best, even without Plant singing it.
Listening to the crowd singing along, it struck me that this song means so much to so many people.
It's like an anthem for rock music.
Jimmy also gives a performance that can match his 1973 performances. And that solo? Awesome.

Ummmm Zeppelin as a live band vs. The Who... Go listen to Zeppelin live LA Forum 1971 bootleg... not the greatest quality but crank it up listen intently and then tell me about a live band....
havn't heard that yet, but I've heard the 1972 LA Forum show (Burn like a candle). Probably my all time favorite Zeppelin show.

The Who are quite good from what I've heard, but seeing them live, personally, I find their explosive persona onstage uninteresting.
I'd rather see Page dance onstage (which is funny and awesome )

this might make me v unpopular
does anyone else, other than me, think pink floyd are probably the most overrated band in the world?
listening to their albums from 68 through to the final cut (i dont count the ones without roger waters as they are completely dire) it strikes me there are only 3 good ones out of the whole bunch.
their early ones are just a lot of un-melodic noise and the later ones (the wall side 4 on vinyl and the final cut) just a weak attempt at some kind of brass band opera style pomp.
dark side of the moon is good BUT not that good, wish you were here and the first 3 sides of the wall are probably the only good stuff they ever released.
it amazes me how they are consistently put up there with Zeppelin as one of the greatest bands in history.
just listening to their drummer is enough to put you off
anyone got any thoughts on this?
For a while, Pink Floyd were my Favorite band ever.
Pink Floyd have always been about the meaning and Understanding of life around us. Their music isn't just Music to listen to - It's a critique of the Human race, from the Selfish nature of War, to digging deep into life around us, and the elements of what makes us human.
Pink Floyd is more about Music, to understand Pink Floyd, is to Understand Humanity and it's best and worst elements. Whether it be about Education, greed, selfishness, anger, sadness, Isolation, Mentality or desperateness, Pink Floyd helps us Cope and Understand what causes these probelms and issues in society.

I had a listen to their first two Albums today at college.
Tony Iommi is an awesome guitarist.
They are both really awesome albums.
