  1. The only L.A. '77 soundboards that would really be WORTH having would be June 22 and June 26, since the circulating audience tapes are pretty mediocre. Ditto for the New York shows, where the audience tapes are fairly decent with the exception of June 8. Of course I'd be happier than a pig in shit if June 10 or 11 (the FULL show!) ever appeared in soundboard.

But again, enough with the goddamn reruns (i.e. putting out soundboards for shows we already have audience tapes for)...they (meaning EVSD or whoever) need to come up with a show that is uncirculated up to this point.

I agree. I am happy with the LA Boots that are out. I love the audience recordings. It would be awesome to get an unheard 77 or 75 show! Like Houston 75, the full Tempe 77. That be cool! I would be so happy to hear that Houston 75 show!

  2. Hello,

Compare HTWWW and Burn Like A Candle after multiple listens.

There must be a post somewhere about this, so redirect me if needed. I tried doing a search top right but couldn't. My Samsung tablet might be a little ornery.

Why am I still wanting a complete soundboard of BLAC and still listening to HTWWW? JPJ's clean, powerful supporting bass, Bonzo's stupendous overpowering drums, JP's elegant guitar, and RP's clear vocals in excellent shape. But I miss the Plantations, the extended WLL, and the feel of the audience.

Did JP overwork it? With Mike Millard's recordings, especially 6/21/1977, you're there in row 6 and don't want to leave. Even the rough BLAC has a better live feel. HTWWW, good as it is, is studio recording in reverse, a bit over produced and under songed.

HTWWW leaves out Louie, Louie and Thank You? That should have finished off the official release.

    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I think that the bootleg recordings are much better than the official HTWWW. I have heard Burn Like A Candle. But i Have the Welcome Back To How The West Was Won boxset and i have listened to this instead of HTWWW ever since i got it. I love the real live feel and how its not edited. Every song is there and you get to experience them in full on action un edited! I was thinking about making my own matrix remaster of the show using Burn Like A Candle, Welcome Back To HTWWW and the official HTWWW. But i never did. I think these concerts are amazingly powerful, Led Zeppelin very strong in 1972 and this is their peak 72 performances! I'm not sure what it is you're asking but thats my opinion :)

  3. i clearly disagree that every performance was worse than any performance in 77, or that it sounded stupid on this tour.

I should not have said stupid. The drumming is just not to my taste for the song. I just don't think the song rocked as much on the 80s tour than the 77 tour. See, to my preferences, i would listen to ALS From Tempe 77 than any on the 80s tour lol. And cmon, I think Nutrocker said this in another thread, People have been changing their opinion, the Tempe show isnt really that bad! Most definitely the sloppiest, but not bad!  Look i love led zeppelin, i am a DIE HARD, BLEED ZEPPELIN FAN!!! But for some reason i cant get into the 80s shows that much. At this point in my life and mindset, I'm more into the trippy 3 hour shows that take you elsewhere in the universe! Maybe even out of this universe!! I'm just grateful that there is a bootleg for almost every single concert they ever performed, give or take a few. I didn't live in the 70s but at least i have a time machine!!!!!! Thanks to the tapers! And whoever stole all these SBD's we have! :) (Sorry Jimmy!)

  4. I agree with some of this here.... I think the first Knebworth show was the LAST GOOD performance of the song. I really dont like any of the 80's versions. He doesnt play the drums the same at all! They sound stupid i think. I dont know how anyone can say an Achilles from the 80s tour was THE BEST or their fave. Any of them from 77 are better than the 80s tour, Even Tempe (which i tend to like, And i aint the only one :) ) But i agree with most on 6-23 being one of the best or my favorite, I really dont have a favorite, When it comes to having a fave or picking the best i really can't do that. I have heard and like way to many zep concerts to do that lol. Anyway I like most of the 77 versions. Fort Worth, I really like the Pontiac Silverdome version, I wish there was a SBD or a better AUD recording of it! Also Landover, there are a few good ones there between their 5 concerts there. And some at the Garden NY. I definitely like some from those nights. Anyway, i tend to like, LOVE Zeppelin a lot more than the average zephead.

  5. Honestly lately, I've been more towards the audience recordings of 77. Most of the SBD's from 77 kind of sound really flat and lame. But the audience recordings always sound full and ambient and really open and spacious. Just my opinion :) But the best SBD i like listening to is between the Texas shows 5-21-77 and 5-22-77. And also the Landover shows as well. Other than that, like i said, I think the audience recordings are better and you will probably enjoy them much more!

  6. From what i understand, He had the flu or laryngitis in 72 and had some sort of surgery on his vocal cords. Yeah it was right around october, after they came back from their break after the 3 concerts. San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Long Beach. I dont know when he had the surgery but i know he had it. I think it may have been when they took the break after the 3 concerts. becasue when they came back and did the mini Japan tour, he started losing it. I actually went and listened to each concert after this to try and track when he lost his high pitch. I would listen to OTHAFA and by time christmas 72 his high pitch was gone completely. But even so, he may sqeek here and there but he still sounds great. He may not be able to shred and hit the OTHAFA high pitch but he was still able to sound awesome IMO. If you want to hear for yourself go and listen the shows from 1972.06.19 Seattle WA (First performance of OTHAFA) and on to December and youll see.
