  1. "I am against Halloween, it is an evil, satanic holiday and I believe it should be against the law and all who participate executed..."

At least that is what the Jehovah's Witness lady told me and my step-daughter a few years back when we knocked on her door Halloween night. You should have seen the look on my daughters face, better yet you should have seen the look on the JW's face when my daughter, politely said, "Then why did you open the door?"

Thank god we did not get a Scientologist, little missy would not have had a retort for, "Xenu will damn you when he exiles you two to planet Epsilon Minor for your horrible costume choices."

Halloween / All Hallows Eve / Samhain is in fact an evil pagan and satanically inspired tradition. But since so are Jehovah's Witnesses the JW woman's complaint is just comically ironic.

    in my opinion ;)

  2. Canada's SCTV was far more groundbreaking TV than "Breaking Bad", and the influence of SCTV is still felt to this day, 40 years later.

40 years from now, "Breaking Bad" will be lucky if it is remembered with the same fondness as SCTV. Heck, it will be lucky if it is remembered at all.

"Breaking Bad" was great if you were into Nietzsche, "Catcher in the Rye", and other adolescent wish-fulfillment obsessions. But it doesn't wear well...it doesn't hold up under repeated viewings.

Eventually, the nihilistic fascination of "Breaking Bad" will fade.

Breaking Bad was to demonstrate that each of us in our own way are also "breaking bad". I don't see that as nihilistic fascination, I see it as the natural condition of humanity unless one accepts redemption.  The story is a journey of how one man's rationalizations lead him ultimately to his own perdition. Like the fall of Adam and the consequences of that choice, it is a story of transformation from good to evil.

  3. I can't tell you how useful FB is in law enforcement.  You tell us your kids names, where they go to school (pics of them in school jerseys or likes of their school).  You tell us your pets, when you are on vacation, your birthdate, your spouse and all your friends.  Some of you show us your car, your house, your latest great thing in your house, etc.  You tell us your fave movies, songs, books, etc.  Real easy to build a psychological profile with all this, and no subpoena needed, you give it willingly!

extremely useful for law breaking people too.  Great, I know where you live, and you're on vacation for two weeks....nice, thanks!

i have two, both VERY fictional, that I use for research and general trolling activities.

Frankly, I am stunned how much real personal info people put on FB.

I agree, facebook was created for dumbfucks.  Not only is facebook used by law enforcement, but just about every company one might apply to runs software to mine facebook for information on potential new hires.

  4. I can't decide if its cutting production costs or companies wanting "essential items" to break so you have to buy a new one. Either way the modern an must own a TV, computer, cellphone, ipod, tablet, video game console, etc. and he will replace anything that breaks. We may not like it but as long as we keep re-purchasing shoddy items we think we cannot live without we'll keep getting shafted. That's partly why I'm pretty much off the grid entirely. A cheap computer, basic phone and old box TV, all of which I use very little, is about as far as I go with electronics since they break so easily and cost so much.

The problem is with the consumer. Most people will complain and complain about the junk quality of goods made in China, but the truth is that MOST of the people when given a choice between two brands of products-- A (made in USA) that costs $5 more over B (made in China)--- MOST will buy product B.  This is due in part to several generations of people now who prefer to shop at places like Walmart and Target.  Same type of folks who would buy a McDonalds hamburger from the "dollar menu" than buy from a independent burger joint.

Yeah, you get what you pay for.  Same way you get who you vote for.

  5. Well, I do enjoy my beer quite often. If you didn't like Shock Top...and I am not surprised you didn't...don't bother trying Blue Moon. Like Shock Top, which is actually made by the Michelob/Anheiser-Busch/In Bev conglomerate (that's right, Budweiser is now owned by foreigners), Blue Moon is a macro masquerading as a microbrew. More drinkable than the usual Bud-Coors-Miller swill, true, but still rather bland and plain.

Thanks to my extended time in Europe and Germany in particular, hefeweizen is generally my go-to style of beer...especially in the summer. Tonight at the local tavern I tried a Craftsman Heavenly Hefe, brewed in Pasadena, California. Not as great as the best German or Austrian hefeweizens, but fully refreshing and tasty nonetheless.

  6. Good for you, those smart phones are making everyone near sighted. I agree, a phone should be just a phone for the most part. I hate those little screens.

These so called smart phones are a plot to make people stupid and at the same time track their every movement, purchase and thoughts.

  7. I have one of these little beauties, the Motorola Barrage. I've had it for years; built like a tank and it only costs me $10 per month with unlimited calls----- now that is what I call a "SMART" phone, one that doesn't cost much. It's PHONE for friggin' sakes.

  8. I did a search for beer in this forum and the first hit was the Strider B day thread! Not good. :poke::lol:

So, now I found it. Has anyone tried this Guiness Blonde? Is it new? Cannot wait to try it. Right now drinking Summer Shandy. Leinenkugel's. Notice all the other beer companies are coming out with a Shandy? I want to try Blue Moon's. Did not like Shock Top that much.

Guineness is in full scramble mode now to regain lost sales after they boycotted the St Paddy's day parade in NY.

  9. Tour of Duty was dramatic TV series about the Vietnam War but it had GREAT music in all of the shows, lots of rock and roll, Motown and R&B in every episode. The opening was Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones and always worth just watching that part.

Later on when the show was in syndication they did not want to spend the money for continuing the rights to the various songs and especially the opening so all of the episodes had the original music replaced with some generic studio music and it really ruined the entire experience.

  10. I saw a strange thing in the sky last night but upon closer examination it turned out to be a cloud shaped like a
