  1. It's always nice to hear about dads hanging out with their daughters :) It's also great that both of your daughters are being proactive with their banking; that'll be great when they are at college and need to take care of things.

^ the twins are in college. They are both hard workers and their work ethics make both their parents proud.

It is also nice to hear that you get along so well with your daughter. The teen years can be rough on the mother daughter relationship. Hang in there and continue to build our strong future with well adjusted young women.

  2. That's one proud Mama! Great news.

Just spent a fantastic afternoon with my daughter. Picked up a drivers hand book, she'll be 16 soon. Got her new bank account set up, she'll be working soon...

I took one my twins to set up her account with the credit union. She was tired of Wells Fargo charging her $5 bucks a month. She wants to keep her hard earned $$.

I then watched Millions with the youngest. There aren't too many movies a dad can watch with a teenager daughter nowadays. The only thing we were missing was the pop corn.

  3. Almost done with Season 2 of "The Wire", just the final episode to go. I'll probably not be able to get to it until next week and wanted to post while I have time to say thanks to forum members who recommended it. I'm sure this will not be my last post about this series.

My mind has been changed about a few of the characters in one way or another. True to life, everyone is flawed, albeit some have major flaws. One can guess the reason for some of the characters being the way they are (envrionment, for instance), but some of the backstories, e.g. McNulty have not yet been revealed - perhaps it never will?

I don't need to talk about all of the interesting plots and little things that make me laugh or gasp (literally).

To date, some of my favorites, good or bad: McNulty, Prez, Freamon, Bunk, Bubbles, D'Angelo Barksdale, Wallace, Stringer, and of course Omar (wow). The relationship between Hauk and Carver is great, they are like a couple who have been together for a long time.

I did not care for Ziggy at first, but now I understand and feel for him. At first I was drawn to Stringer Bell...very intelligent and always trying to better himself. Now I'm "off" him.

This is my second time trying to post this, I lost my first draft in some sort of black hole, so I'll end this now.

Welcome to my hometown. The author who penned The Wire also wrote The Corner and Homicide. Both were also on the boob tube. My wife worked on one of he cases when she was interning with the Attorney General's office. It was quite chilling to be reading about the events, after she had shared so much with me prior to the publications of the books.

Spoiler Alert for coming seasons :

Although The Wire is fiction, it is rooted in many truths. The series also proved to be prophetic when the City's Mayor became governor and the city council chair was ousted in scandal after succeeding him in the office.

There will not be Fly over in New Orleans for some reason. Ha ha.

All kidding aside there will be a flight restriction in the Crescent city, except for Ravens.

  5. Same here, growing up in the Dominion you would seldom see fat people. In fact being fat was something to be embarrassed about and corrected - not something to celebrate. If you were fat growing up in the 70’s it was because you were a social misfit who had friendship issues.

Growing up in the 70’s, people in the colony would think of it as an America problem. I think little elephants began walking among us in significant numbers perhaps 20 years ago in my neck of the woods. People were not being active, began eating lots of corn syrup, and loading up on soda, and the of course the fast food is enough to make me throw up. The lines of people standing at MacDonald's and Pizza Joints are like cattle being led to the slaughter. I generally feel bad for them because they are taking the one life they have been given and are throwing it away.

I think you exported all the fat people to the Former colonies. Thanks for sending John Candy. You can take Skinny Ass martin Short back.

  6. The guy who did Lennon in could just as easily have done it to the guy who delivers his mail, or some politician or a teacher at school. I’m not sure it had anything to do with John at all. The guy who did it was clearly not well. He could have opened fire and levelled an entire school. The saddest thing about John’s death is that we still have doctors handing out anti-depression pills to people who really don’t need them, and ignoring people who should be on medication and clearly anyone on meds is a lunatic who should never be allowed to own firearms despite what our friends in the NRA think.

That's revisionist history at its worst. Did you live through that time? Don't spread your filthy lies here. Read a little background info on his killer before you link this to the NRA . Your misinformation does little to advance your cause. Lennon was targeted by Mark David Chapman.

  7. Right. Because people in England never drink sodas/cokes/colas/soft drinks.

Look, I applaud you and chillumpuffer's exemplary diet. You have embraced the spirit of this thread completely with your mouth-watering descriptions of your latest home-cooked repast. I especially look forward to CP's posts, as we seem to be on the same wavelength...we both love seafood and spicy foods. I've learned a couple new interesting preparations for fish reading his posts.

But with globalization and the far-reach of multinationals, including the British company Tesco, to pretend that obesity is only a North American problem is living with blinders on. You cannot fool me...I've been to the UK and Europe and you two are in the minority. There are just as many elephants waddling the aisles of Tesco and SuperValu, their carts stuffed with cokes, cheesy puffs, crisps, and all manner of over-salted, over-sugared, and over-processed 'food'...basically, anything in the yellow food group...as there are in America.

Besides, that photo doesn't really tell us anything about the context...that cart full of soda could be for a party or some event. Maybe that person's employer sent them to buy supplies for an office party or some function?

Had a mexican breakfast today: Machaca and eggs and avocados. Coffee and juice.

FYI Strider, CJW is from N. America he lives in the great white north.

Canadian Bacon, Eggs, American cheese on an English Muffin, I hope the French aren't offended. Tomorrow I'll order a Baguette.
