The kid in the blue - he gets it!

the rest of the kids -  they all have serious potential and an ear for talent.

Except - the long haired kid - he can stick with his rap, and Black Dog of course.

The one girl was right - Black Dog - “It’s a party!”

I hope the band gets to see clips like this.

I can't believe you missed the telecaster! It was to the right of the double neck Gibson SG against the wall on the right. You were just feet away from it. It is a bit hidden and easy to miss as the big display with Jimmy in the dragon suit stands out and grabs your attention immediately.

UGH!!  That’s it. Gotta head back!  I’ll wait a few weeks until the tourist crowd slows down.  I was so enthralled with what I saw my mind went to this place where logic didn’t apply.

    And it was glorious!

Thank you!  I cannot begin to imagine the pressure Nancy Wilson had to feel doing that acoustic intro!  Although not technical, you HAVE to get that right as people recognize those notes immediately!  And then when Jason is shown sitting behind the drums in that bowler....excuse me, just got a little dust in my eye......

Omg. EXACTLY. Imagine playing Stairway- then imagine playing Stairway TO LED ZEPPELIN!!

Jason sitting at the drums with his bowler on and looking emotional really made me think someone cut up onions in the room!  I also loved how the choir wore bowlers as well.

I noticed Jimmy counting during it sometimes- I think his mind is probably so analytical that he may not even know he does it - he does it in the Earls Court version of In My Time of Dying.

If you get a chance, YouTube Ann and Nancy’s reaction to performing that Stairway. So much respect for them!

Heart's rendition of "Stairway" at the Lincoln Center Honors several years ago STILL brings a tear to my eye when I watch it.  Just beautiful!

Yes!! Same here. I watched it again the other night and same reaction.

One of the beautiful things about that performance was the reaction we saw.  If you can make Robert tear up and Jimmy nod with approval and say “wow” a few times, you know you’ve got to be damn good!

Heart delivered it just the same a few weeks ago. Not too bad for ladies in their 60’s- it was beautiful even without the choir and orchestra.  I’m so glad they did it that night - I teared up then as well!

Not even close to Live Aid ...Women should definitely not be playing Zep, in fact they should stick to R&B and Country..

    Oh my.

I saw Heart 2 weeks ago and they absolutely nailed Stairway in their encore.  Too bad you miss out in gems like that.

Indeed it is ...I stood there, just 12 inches away from it, for a good 10 minutes just contemplating the majesty of Jimmy’s no.1.I even got my daughter take a very cheesy pic of me from behind the guitar looking like I was playing it ...I won’t be posting that one tho 😁

I did cheesy pics of my hands over #1 and the Danelectro looking like I was touching it.  I have to figure out how to attach pics here with iPhone/iPad.

To echo the above sentiment about Excalibur - yes - that’s what it was! And looking at the Holy Grail.  I was completely mesmerized thinking of all I’d the things we’ve heard that came from those instruments and seeing them in action.  Looking at the Black Beauty was a treat, considering where it’s been (as in, we have no idea where it went).  How generous of Jimmy to loan so many things to the exhibit.

  7. Wow, these are fantastic!  Some of them actually took me a minute to figure out who exactly was the photoshopped person was.  Keep them coming, I love it!  Thanks for the laughs!

I've often thought that it would have been a great show-opener for them.    That swirling beginning sound would start softly while the house lights were still on, coming from a pre-recorded tape.  The volume would ever so slightly be raised until the house lights went off.  Now quite loud.  Then, a spotlight picks out Plant on stage with his, "In the eeeeeeeeevening"  Then, the stage erupts with those magnesium light-blasts as Page, Jones, and Bonham launch into that famous riff.

Jason does this with his Zeppelin band with the ITL intro- I remember who perfect I thought it was.

I disagree. There absolutely was a reason for Jimmy using the double-neck for "The Song Remains the Same"/"Rain Song" (and for the other TSRTS combos).

No, ThreeSticks, there was not enough time between songs to switch guitars. The band wanted "The Song Remains the Same" and "Rain Song" to segue immediately in concert, almost as if it was one song.

If you recall that Jimmy's original intent for "TSRTS" was as an overture to "Rain Song" (it even briefly had the working title of "Overture" before becoming "The Campaign" and then "TSRTS"), then the reason for the quick segue on record and in concert makes even more sense. They wanted to make a dramatic impact and any delay in starting "Rain Song" after "TSRTS" would spoil the effect.

In concert, at the end of "TSRTS" Jimmy and Robert would be stage front in the lights, Robert on the right, Jimmy to the left in front of Bonzo's kick drum. As the song slid to its close, Jimmy would strum the final chords on the 12-string as Robert hit his final "Ahhhhhh". IMMEDIATELY the spotlights darkened and only Jimmy was bathed in a blue light as he struck the opening chords to "Rain Song" on the 6-string at center stage.

Now, if Jimmy had to switch guitars he would have to unplug and take off his 12-string while walking from center stage to the side of his amps where Raymond could hand him a guitar. Then he would have to plug in and make sure it was in tune and that the knobs were in the right setting while walking back to his mark where the blue lights would hit him. That would take a considerable amount of time...and ruin what the band was trying to achieve by playing the two songs back-to-back.

Plus, the double-neck had a nice bell-like tone that really chimed and worked well on both songs. It sounded great and looked cool as fuck.

Yes it is at the Met along with other cool Jimmy gear. A friend visited the exhibit in May and gave me a neat shirt with Jimmy's dragon design. A must-see if you are visiting New York City.

I went this weekend - WOW.  I may go back again before it ends - fortunately I’m only a 2 hour train ride from NYC.

Meh, just ignore that nasty old git, he is not on here anymore since the accident with a water buffalo. Poor bastard.

Anyway, you're in Albany eh? I have family upstate in Saratoga Springs. Beautiful country.

I was born and raised in Saratoga Springs!  My family is still there.  Fantastic place to grow up.

Im imagining accidents involving water buffalo.  Trampled Underfoot?

Don't know about nurses being better at sex, maybe they were in the 70's, I was too young to know. What I know about them now is most are overweight, smoke, and have nasty dispositions. The few that are attractive and kind tend to go after doctors and ignore everyone else.

    Nurses do it better..only golddigging!

Wow dude.  I know it’s an old post but you couldn’t sound any more ignorant if you tried. I’m 44, 5’8 and 144 lbs, and never smoked a day in my life.  Proud nurse for 23 years.  I’ve done all kinds of nursing including flight nursing, critical/intensive care and Hospice, which were my true passions out of all of them.

Sorry you feel that way about us.  I hope you don’t need any anytime soon...one may hold your life in their hands. They’ll be just as dedicated to your care even if you are nasty to them.

Robert’s right - we DO do it better!

  12. This is great.  You all just get me.  My friends listen to crap pop music or whatever today’s nonsense is that the kids are listening to, and there I am with a Zeppelin shirt on blaring live stuff they’ve never heard of.  When my mother saw my book on my coffee table and said “Who’s Jimmy Page?” I cried.  I need more friends like all of you! I’m a single girl, 44, and travel everywhere I can. Nice to be here!

I went yesterday and my god, it was glorious. It’s everything everyone described.  I’m pissed that I missed the telecaster and bow (gotta go back!).

It was definitely packed with Jimmy’s things compared to others which was mighty fine by me!

The dragon suit was designed by Jimmy and hand embroidered by Coco and took over a year to make.  I took pics of the descriptions as well. Gosh, he had a tiny waist!

It blows my mind that I was standing right where he was in the room showcasing him, Keith, Eddie and Tom Morello (instead of strumming he’d use his toggle switch!).  It’s like walking where Jesus did.

I watched the Jimmy video like 4 times.  😊

I took a lot of the same pics but I’d be happy to post the descriptions of the items or anything anyone would like to see -  I’ll try to figure out how to post pics for you.

i even took corny pics of my hand looking like I was touching the Danelectro and Number 1.

I watched RAH and TSRTS clips on the train home just to watch him playing what I had just experienced.

I may even go back once more before it leaves.  It was fantastic!

EDIT: looking at the dragon suit a lady asked me what “Zoso” meant.  I said that Jimmy will never disclose but it has something to do with his interest in magick, the occult, symbology, etc.  She goes - “oh ok, I’ll just google it”. I said “you might wanna start with Aleister Crowley then”. Then the husband said “Jimmy doesn’t look so good these days”. I was all - “well, he’s 75 and survived copious drugs and a rock and roll lifestyle through the 70’s”. He said “oh good point”.  Sorry folks, don’t knock Jimmy to me, I’ll set ya straight - and jimmy looks pretty damn good for 75 and being where he’s been.
