If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. The man is 80 years old for fucks sake. What he does with his legacy is his business, and none of it sullies the music he has given YOU in any way.

I have said before that Page is free to do whatever he wants and fair play to him, he’s earned his right. Him selling merchandise doesn’t affect my appreciation of the Zeppelin catalogue either But, in my opinion, and I’m entitled to one, just as you are, it’s unbecoming to be selling over priced mugs, polo shirts etc and anything with his signature on it and I think he overdoes it . If folk want to buy replicas of his guitars and amps that’s fine too. It’s more the other stuff I quibble over

there is a flip side though. the more stuff he signs and sells, the less valuable it becomes, making it less collectible to a collector.

The Third Eye owner/videographer is a friend of mine. I purchased his original cover art mock-ups for the VHS releases. They just sit in a box like most things but it's cool to review them from time to time. He still tells a great story on how he was able to videotape the '96 Japan shows. We've also discussed all the pro-shot Page/Plant stage footage, and it's a shame that it was last seen moldering in a San Francisco warehouse for reasons that are an equally good story.

My guess would be Page’s dislike of his hair on the 95/6 tour and his belly on the 98 tour, along with Planty’s reticence to agree to anything like this

Oh no ..I’ve a feeling you could be right on this one. It was once said that Jimmy had sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for success, now it would seem he’s sold it to the big corporations .

Yep. He ought to open a shop on Kensington High Street and flog his autographed stuff from there

I wonder what Jimmy Page of 1970 would say of his future self?   At least he has not started selling his clothes......yet.

It could be a thing, and I’m not joking. It wouldn’t surprise me if we get reports of the dragon and poppy suits etc. autographed obviously, to enhance the purchase.

  5. At £50000 I can’t see that many, or even any of these guitars will ever be played, which is a shame. There’ll be kept well out of harm or even in some millionaire collector’s vault. Fair play to any very wealthy fans who can afford to indulge themselves, if they can why not?  And the same for Jimmy too. I wonder if Dan Electro will be his next contact now that he’s done his most famous guitars, to complete the set?

there was a phrase that someone on the old forum wrote about Jimmy that still tickles me “he’s wanking over his own past”.

  6. I’m not aware of underlying issues between Plant and JPJ during the life of the band. It’s obvious he was closer to Bonham and Page but it seems to me that he had the biggest issue with Page in the end. First described during the Presence sessions in 75, then the very heavy drug use, poor playing and self indulgence of 77, not attending Karac’s funeral,, and absence during the ITTOD sessions etc.

  7. I recently dug out my cassette bootlegs out of the attic, that I acquired in in the 80s. I have just one of two tapes tiled Destroyer but I don’t know which of the two night they played in Cleveland

the only clues I can give you are two plantations.. before BYAS he mentions JPJ buying the stand up bass for £18 (I think), and before TYG in the delay getting the stage set he says “soon to be named eleven years gone”

any ideas anyone? And of the two nights they played, which is regarded as the better?
    thanks all

I enjoyed this and I’m going to watch the next part on the 98 tour. There’s no doubt that by the end of this 95/95 tour, and especially in ‘98, Jimmy had really got his feel back on a consistent level and played some magical moments unseen, in my opinion, for twenty years or more

Like the narrator, I wasn’t crazy on Michael Lee either. His enthusiasm was great but I just didn’t dig his sound. But, hey ho, it doesn’t matter, Page and Plant were doing some great gigs. I’m glad I saw them in this phase: three times in ‘95 and twice in ‘98, including Glastonbury and Reading festivals.

when my mate got married in the early 00s, he said, “I haven’t been this happy since Jimmy played Heartbreaker at Reading”

  9. I’m looking for clarification on what tracks Page used a strat on the studio albums, either as a main guitar or overdubs.
The ones that I’m aware of are; the crunge, ten years gone, several tracks off Presence that I can’t name offhand and in the evening.
Are there any more to add? thanks

I wish they'd do one more show for the fans. Majority of the people at the 02 were celebrities and millionaires... why not do one show for the fans. Huge outdoor show, so lots of people can attend.

Then there will still be people who didn’t get tickets moaning and saying they should do “ one more” I don’t know what country you’re in but what if they don’t do it there but across the Atlantic? Then there’ll be complaints that it wasn’t fair and they should do “one more” They’re now very old men. Page (in my opinion) certainly couldn’t do it and just got away with it at the 02.  Plant won’t as he sees that revisiting the past endlessly reaps diminishing rewards.  Jonesy could, and Bonham is dead. So that’s just one out of the original four who could still create their magic
