I agree that Axl is what really made up the essence of GnR. His ego is what drove the whole ship. Not to say the others didn't step up when it came to time to massage Axl's ego with great albums.
But the other guys are a huge part. It's not like Axl was writin their parts. He was makin sure the album sounded just like he wanted.
Slash has one of the most recognizable sounds, and thats sayin somethin, since it's mostly real basic stuff.
Izzy gets overshadowed so much, but he wrote tons of riffs, and played the more lead-y parts on those riffs.
Duff just brought the attitude
The drummer for them was always replacable, as it was usually really basic stuff.

Just got tix for The Mars Volta, in St Louis, in April and with any luck, I'll get some for the Black Crowes show in Owensboro, KY of all places. Can't wait for their new album to drop.

There was a pretty good article in Guitar World, 5 years ago, that showed multiple places where it coulda came from. One bein from the brand of Jimmy's first guitar. It's also noted, somewhere I've read that it could be Zofo and not Zoso.
Anyway..... at this point doesn't it simply mean Jimmy Page.

Aenima is their best, followed closely by Lateralus. They could almost be a double album, released in halves years apart.
I have gained a new appreciation for Undertow lately, with all its rage, and the more metal guitar tone.
Opiate is pretty kickass for so few songs
10k Days is Aenima/Lateralus pt2. For a band that says they take so long between albums to allow for change, 10k Days didn't really show much change. And there are really only 6 songs on the album.

The old Aerosmith rules over the new, but Get A Grip & 9 Lives are both pretty solid. Hell a song like Amazin' is more musically interesting and better put together than most of the old stuff.
It was that Armageddon song that sent them down the wrong path albumwise.

I have loved everything since Elephant. Icky Thump is great.
Get Behind Me, Satan is an all time great album. It's so, dare I say, Zeppelin-esque.
Raconteurs was solid, and can't wait for their new one.

I know Bonzo kept one of his toms tuned like a bass drum, and would use it as such, so alotta times when you are hearin "double bass" it's not that at all. I watched Jeff Orcheltree explain it, and I have seen it in action.
