  1. For any Aussie viewers of Today Tonight out there. There was a little report on the Olympics and of course Jimmy Page. You would NOT believe it in a million years, but the reporter said that Jimmy Page was from The Who??? My husband and I were completely dumfounded. I so much so that I've written to Today Tonight and made a nice complaint about it. This reporter is (apparently) educated??? Oh dear.

Full marks also to Britains Mirror newspaper who described "Status Quo's" guitairist Jimmy Page!

  2. I also noticed in Black Dog that Robert paused a bit for the camera. What a ham!!!

It's just before he says. I gotta roll, can't stand still, got a flaming heart can't get my fill.

That is the clip that was "given" to the media just after the show for them to use on their reviews. See BBC reviews.

  3. I think, as with other great rock drummers(Carey & Peart esp), they get better with age. PG, Presence, and ITTOD have some of his absolute best drummin. But I would imagine Bonzo's live playin struggled later on from the drugs.

I think the drugs (heroin) had a lot to do with it.

The same can be said about Jimmy, as his performances also deteriorated after 75.

  4. I have heard over 200 shows and up until recently Listen to this Eddie was more all time favourite.

However i've just heard Conspiracy Theory - San Diego 14.3.75. The sound quality on this CD is awesome and the best I have ever heard.

This Cd is a must, absolutely amazing!!

  5. Loved him ever since his guest apperance in the movie Roadhouse have bought several of his cds anyone have any thoughts on what his best one is? He will be missed.

I'm really sad with this news.

I saw Jeff with my 16 year old daughter in BB king's blues club in New York in 03.

She didn't want to go, but I persuaded her and we both thought it was an amazing gig.

Loved his version of All along the Watchtower and While my guitar gently weeps.

    A very sad day.

  6. Ok, so no release of the 02 show on DVD, I'm trying to be positive here, is it because they want to use some of the visuals used in the 02 show for future performances and if everyone had already seen it on the 02 DVD it would lessen the live experience?

  7. The meeting decided that there would be no plans to tour or release a DVD of the O2.

If the band meeting decided there would be no tour or release of a DVD, then why don't they just come out and tell us. At least we would know where we are.

    I'm not convinced.

  8. Where's the infinity key on this keyboard? ;)

It's hard to tell. By boot cd's, are you referring to dates of shows, variations of those shows, compilations, etc? There are so many that pop up every day in various remastered incarnations (I'd even hesitate to even guess how many different CD versions of 4/27/69 San Francisco and 4/27/77 Cleveland there are alone).

It is interesting, though, that the two most bootlegged shows are from the same day in different years.

I meant total cd's including variations of some dates etc.

    There must be thousands.

Some new shows are still being found.

At what rate are they still being released?

  9. Just wondering if anyone knows roughly how many LZ Boot cd's are out there?

I know it would be impossible to collect them all, but who has the biggest collection?

I've got about 65 and I know that's only scratching the surface.

Are LZ the most bootlegged artist ever or do The Beatles or Dylan have more boot cd's?

  10. Will Luis Rey ever update his excellent book "Led Zeppelin Live"?

The last "final edition" was published in 1997 and he could not have realised how many more shows could have been unearthed.

It really would be great to have his book updated as he is such an authority on the band live in concert.

Did Luis see the 02 show as I know he never saw them 68 -80?

  11. I'm glad you brought that up. I just downloaded from a torrent the Knebworth Show.....its in 3- 500MB MPG files.....the quality is actually pretty good. It is obviously the Aug 11th show......Plant refers to "last week" during the show a few times that gives away which show. I want the Aug 4th show. It must be the better show in some ways. It's obvious in Achilles Last Stand especially that Jimmy must have used the Aug 4th show to make the DVD he released in 2003. Can I get some help here?....what's the DVD that you just say you ordered?? I've seen it actually on Amazon and various places....but would like a little help getting the very best quality and the correct show I'm looking for.......I'll appreciate the feedback.......thanks in advance. I'm not a big bootlegger.......I just love to watch them so much.....JR

JR, I've ordered my copy from a japanese site. This is the full show. Suppliers are not that hard to find on the net. The Amazon DVD is incomplete but it is still pretty good.

Leave your e mail address and I'll send you the details.

  12. Pretty astute observation for someone out of their depth!

John Entwhistle is a lead bass player, he played with a minimalist lead guitar player. JPJ as you note is in the mix with one of the most expressive drummers of all time, and with one of the most brilliant rock guitar/producers of all time.

That being said, LZ didn't have the need for the bass to be as loud as JE might have been, but I don't hear a deficiency in JPJ's bass tone, or volume in LZ's mixes. Presence has a distinctly different feel than the rest of the catalogue, and JPJ's bass is definitely mixed in more standout fashion on that one.

If you are going to hold the LZ catalogue up against contemporary bands mixes, then I will agree that JPJ is more buried, but that has to do with bass becoming a more prominent tone in music these days. Engineers mix with the idea that this disc has to slam when listened to in someones car, overall, mix levels are actually pretty ridiculous anymore. If the bass doesn't "trigger little johnny's subs, the mix is a failure"

Laughable, but I've watched engineers scrap a mix for this reason. This doesn't mean that LZ's albums are not mixed well, but there are a lot of nuances, and subtleties in their albums which is regrettably lost in the digital age.

It could be you just need to train that ear to hear analog as well as digital. B)

Igg, Many thanks for your comments.

I must admit my tinitus does not help with this either!
