zeppphead
Neil Young is set to play theater shows with acoustic guitar legend Bert Jansch this summer. Scottish folk guitarist Jansch and Young performed "Ambulance Blues" together in 2006 at the annual Bridge School benefit. Bert Jansch surfaced in the '60s, touring the United States with influential British folk group Pentangle. Longtime fan Neil Young had long held Jansch in the highest regard. "As much of a great guitar player as Jimi [Hendrix] was, Bert Jansch is the same thing for acoustic guitar…and my favorite," says Young on Jansch's website. Jimmy Page became a Jansch devotee in the '60s, "I was absolutely obsessed with Bert Jansch. It was so far ahead of what everyone else was doing. No one in America could touch that." More recently, Johnny Marr had been Jansch's most vocal advocate: "Without Bert Jansch, rock music as it developed in the '60s and '70s would have been very different. You hear him in Nick Drake, Pete Townshend, Donovan, The Beatles, Jimmy Page and Neil Young. There are people playing guitar who don't even realize they've been influenced by him." The dates announced so far: May 26 – Louisville, KY @ The Louisville Palace Theatre May 29 – Atlanta, GA @ Fox Theatre May 30 – Spartanburg, SC @ Spartanburg Auditorium June 1 – Nashville, TN @ Ryman Auditorium June 2 – Nashville, TN @ Ryman Auditorium For more information on Bert Jansch go to www.bertjansch.com
