MattyB
Hi everyone, is there anyone that may help me pin point this guitar to Mr Page? The receipt for the work done is an exciting lead but i need more evidence! Thank you all MattyB
henrybonzo
01 is an old London Phone number prefix and andys is a workshop on Denmark St, just never heard of Jimmy using a bourne guitar
MattyB
Yes I popped into Andy's but it's only still there in name and have no records of work done. Vintage Guitars on Denmark street estimate the receipt to be at least 25 years old.
woz70
Yes I popped into Andy's but it's only still there in name and have no records of work done. Vintage Guitars on Denmark street estimate the receipt to be at least 25 years old. The 01 prefix in London was replaced by 071 and 081 in 1990, so that sounds about right. The original Andy's closed a couple of years ago and was renowned for doing guitar repairs & setups for lots of bands. What year did Swan Song close their offices in Chelsea? MattyB
Good point Zep Head. Swan Song ceased in October 1983. So that adds up
MattyB
The 83 ( with a 16 before it, got the 6 and 9 mixed up? ) on the receipt I think maybe just a coincidence. Those pages are usually numbered.
woz70
It might be worth contacting Dave Lewis at Tight But Loose.... he was often in and around the Swan Song offices in the late 70's & early 80's and may still be in touch with some of the staff who may be in the know about this kinda thing? Andy's guitars originally opened in '78, so that gives you a 5 year time frame to work with.http://home.btconnect.com/aguitar/history/aboutus.htm

jwb
I remember knowing someone who worked in the Newcastle branch, Chris and Andy's, and being told they did work for Jimmy (though I guess not in Newcastle). Also if you look at the Biogs page on the Andy's website you'll see that Jimmy's guitar tech Tim Marten worked at Denmark Street before joining Jimmy in 1981. http://home.btconnect.com/aguitar/history/biographies.htm
MattyB
Thanks JWB for the info, that's great! Indeed a contact I have on Denmark street is forwarding the pics onto one of Jimmy's guitar tech's so this may well be the same guy!
