  1. Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Dark Side......and maybe Wish You Were Here. After that I lost interest completely.

    Listening to the live David Gilmour at Gdansk album was pretty illuminating I think. It wasn't Floyd.........but it sounded like them. I guess having two out of four and a bunch of other talented musicians is all you really need to re-create the vibe.

    That says a lot I do believe.

  2. "I like Mahavishnu Orchestra. Have you listened to Soft Machine?"

    Yeah they were a pretty great band. They don't get the credit they deserve either. They were doing things musically that no other band in "rock music" was doing at that time.

    Regards;

  3. Somebody mentioned Mahavishnu Orchestra on page two. I agree with that one.

    Here's another great fusion band: Return To Forever. Listen to "Romantic Warrior"; it's jazz, it's rock, it's funk, hell it's even prog in certain spots.

    RTF was one of the truly great bands from any era.

  4. Exactly my point, even if there was a way to prove that a certain artist is best it's absolutely futile. If I already have a favorite (a term I prefer over "best") it's not going to change my opinion one way or the other.

    I know, it's total futility. I've read enough of the comparisons to pretty much put me over the edge, but out of respect to the board members and the band itself (Zeppelin pays for these boards).......I kept my mouth shut :D

    Both were legendary......any other comparisons are pointless.

  5. Of course there can be a reunion, of the surviving members of the band. You might think it's madness, but I think that's a ridiculous stance. And I'm a fan from back in the day too, saw them too many times to count, with and without Rodders, and I loved Ronnie Lane just like I loved John Bonham. But that didn't stop me enjoying the O2 gig, and it wouldn't have stopped me seeing the Faces.

    Great, enjoy yourself then. I can't live in the past like that. It's not the same without Lane. Hell I saw them with Tetsu also after Lane left and it wasn't even close to what it was.

    If you need nostalgia, play the albums.

  6. If they do reunite, the Face will have had plastic surgery.

    Ronnie Lane is dead.

    Yes, Ronnie Lane is dead. There can be no Faces reunion because of this little factoid that nobody else has mentioned or seems to care about.

    I do care. I loved the Faces back in the day, still do today......but there can't be a reunion. No Laney, no Faces......not really.

    Stop the madness.

  7. When Townshend's website was still up and running, he posted a PDF file explaining his views about pornography and what he was researching and why he was doing so. This was a full year before he supposedly got "caught" by an always "well intentioned" group (who nobody heard of prior to this event). I don't know Townshend, have never met him and probably never will. I tend to believe him though based on what he posted on his old website.

    And yes, the new DVD is a must have. The bonus '69 show is priceless. The Who were the best band to ever grace a stage.

  8. See link for info about forthcoming release of "The Who At Kilburn 1977" 2 DVD set. Due for November release. It'll also include part of a 1969 show from the London Coliseum.

    Kilburn 1977 - I Can't Explain, Substitute, Baba O'Riley, My Wife/Going Mobile, Behind Blue Eyes, Dreaming from the Waist, Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, Summertime Blues, Shakin' All Over, My Generation, Join Together, Who Are You, Won't Get Fooled Again

    London Coliseum 1969 - Heaven and Hell, I Can't Explain, Fortune Teller, Tattoo, Young Man Blues, A Quick One While He's Away, Happy Jack, I'm a Boy, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, See Me Feel Me, Summertime Blues, Shakin' All Over, My Generation

    The blurb at the link mentions the contents of the second DVD as a complete version of Tommy from the Coliseum show. I can't say for sure if that means audio only or actual footage but I'll try and find out.

    Here's a link with a short trailer - The Who at Kilburn 1977

    Wow! OMG! This is remarkable. The London 69 show???? Let me drop dead and rise again over this one........

    I had no idea, thanks for the information.

  9. There are some nice perks with the site, but as of yet I haven't gotten my return on the $50 dollars. The CD is nothing new, as I also had most of it on bootleg, and while the forum is very good and active, it's over censored by the moderator and frankly I don't think that should cost money to go on. I'm about 40/60 in favor of not renewing my subscription when it comes up.

    Thanks. I don't care for moderated web boards, so I think I'll pass for the moment. If they ever post vintage video or stream music, then that might persuade me.

    Thanks again.

  10. Thanks for the post. As a member, do you think the website is worth the money? The double CD offer that they include with membership is nice, but I have it all already on assorted boots. I've been hedging about joining...............do you think it's worth it?

    I did mean Psycho Derelict music only by the way lol.

    Thanks again.

    Regards;

  11. I always enjoyed PT's "Psycho Derelict", although judging by album sales I might have been the only one who did. The all instrumental version without the narration and dialogue works a lot better.

  12. Well if The Fillmore Concerts is "revisionism".........then welcome revisionism! Whenever I play this, I STILL can't get over the difference in fidelity compared to other CD versions. I realize Dowd splicing together different performances of Elizabeth Reed might be sacrilege.........but to me it just makes the tune even more immortal than it already was.

    Fillmore Concerts really is one of the greatest deluxe reissues ever released.

  13. The original ABB was one of the best bands that ever graced a stage. Duane Allman was one of the greatest guitar players to ever pick up the instrument.

    They don't make bands like the ABB any longer. Blues, jazz and rock............Duane and Dickey weaving like they did............really, the Allman Brothers Band were one of the very best..............ever.

    Nice thread, thanks.

    Regards;

  14. I love The Who. They were always my band...............all of my other friends were Zeppelin fanatics and it was a constant battle....."play Led II.....play Who's Next" etc etc. I loved The Who above all others though. I was lucky enough to see them in 1970 and 1971 and then once more in 1996 on the Quad tour. In my humble opinion there's never been anybody better.

    I say this on a Led Zeppelin board :D

    It's all good though, it really is.

    Regards;
