  1. .. "I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

    Bin Laden's body cleansed before sea burial

    msnbc.msn.com

    CAIRO — Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was buried at sea from the deck of a U.S. aircraft carrier in the north Arabian Sea after being washed according to Islamic custom during a religious funeral, a U.S. defense official said Monday.

    "Preparations for at-sea burial began at 1:10 a.m. EST and were completed at 2 a.m. EST," the official said. "Traditional procedures for Islamic burial were followed."

    The official described the procedure to NBC News as follows:

    • The deceased's body was washed and then placed in a white sheet.
    • The body was placed in a weighted bag.
    • A military officer read prepared religious remarks that were translated into Arabic by a native speaker.
    • After the words were complete, the body was placed on a prepared flat board, tipped up, whereupon the deceased's body eased into the sea from the USS Carl Vinson.

    The rites sparked a debate about Islamic customs, with some Muslim clerics calling the procedure humiliating and others saying it was proper.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    But Mohammed Qudah, a professor of Islamic law at the University of Jordan, said burying the Saudi-born bin Laden at sea was not forbidden if there was nobody to receive the body and provide a Muslim burial.
    "The land and the sea belong to God, who is able to protect and raise the dead at the end of times for Judgment Day," he said. "It's neither true nor correct to claim that there was nobody in the Muslim world ready to receive Bin Laden's body."
  3. I don't care what ANYONE says but I am very satisfied that Osama bin Laden is dead. I would like to think that almost every American is over-joyed with the news of his death. I know there are some people on this site who disparage people like me because I am very vocal about being a Proud and Loyal American. (You know who you are).
    With that being said, I am also Proud of the CIA and the Special Forces (Navy SEALS) who carried out this 'historic' operation. Very Proud that bin Laden was killed by Americans.
    Just like September 11, 2001 is an important date in American history, so is this new date, May 1, 2011.
    LONG LIVE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!
    You are fortunate.
    When they became young adults, their father asked them to volunteer for suicide missions. When Omar protested, bin Laden was quoted as replying: "You hold no more a place in my heart than any man or boy in the entire country. This is true for all my sons."
    It was then, Omar recounted, that he "finally knew exactly where I stood. My father hated his enemies more than he loved his sons."
  4. On CNN, Wolf Blitzer quoted a woman whose husband died on 9/11. She said "Its not right to celebrate a man's death, but tonight, it feels right to do so"
    You know, as a religious person, I can't feel like its right in many ways, BUT this man killed 3000 people and now he has been done away with...so for that I AM PLEASED!
    Anyone's death saddens me. I always pray for my enemies in the hope they will some day find redemption and healing. But this man arguably would have killed innocents again. And I pray for the healing of his victims and a better understanding between all people.
    Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden (Arabic: أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن‎, ʾUsāmah bin Muḥammad bin ʿAwaḍ bin Lādin; March 10, 1957 – May 1, 2011) was a member of the wealthy Saudi bin Laden family and the founder of the jihadist terrorist organization al-Qaeda, responsible for the September 11 attacks on the United States and numerous other mass-casualty attacks against civilian and military targets. As a result of his dealings in and advocacy of violent extremist jihad, Osama bin Laden lost his Saudi citizenship and was disowned by his billionaire family.
  5. RIP Osama Bin Laden. :o
    It doesn't bring back the loved ones who so many people lost, but this news amazes me. This is an emotional time for the citizens of the United States. I hope this will be the last of the terror that he fostered.
  7. I would like to thank you Silver Rider for posting this alternative "fantasy" sequence of Robert Plant. I have seen it before, a long time ago. I had the VHS version of Led Zeppelin titled the "First Cuts" which was about an hour or so of alternate versions of the "Song Remains the Same". I have no idea where my VHS copy disappeared to.
    This is the main reason I started this Led Zeppelin or Related topic is so that all of us Led Zeppelin fans can see and hear and sometimes experience songs and videos about "OUR" favorite band that may otherwise have not been seen or heard before. On that note, I would like to thank everbody that has posted a video or replied to a video or song. When it comes to the "Mighty Led Zeppelin", I would LOVE to convert the whole world to the Powerful Legacy and Music of Jimmy Page/Robert Plant/John Paul Jones/John Bonham. I know that I am not alone. This topic is my way of trying to do so. "THANK YOU"!!!
    You're welcome, lzzoso. Here's another one that popped up today.
    Robert Plant and John Paul Jones start an impromptu cover of "Georgia On My Mind". Taken from 1973.05.26, Salt Lake City, Utah. Soundboard source.
