  1. I remember when DW2 came out, I wasn't expecting it, and boom - new Jimmy Page music!   Agree with you Flares, the eerie songs suited Page and his persona perfectly.  And the slightly rock-ish songs "City Sirens", "Who's to Blame", really are better than just about anything the Firm did.  As I read one reviewer somewhere writing about Mean Business "it is hard to imaging anyone having fun playing these songs".

they are definitely an acquired taste but to call them a cult band and underrated I think is a bit off. they have a huge fan base. led zeppelin was definitely more influential than them though.

I think there is a huge difference between rush and led zeppelin even though they are always compared. with led zeppelin it was so much more than just writing awesome songs, rush was really more about writing very climactic and intricate instrumentals. also geddy lee's vocals are absolutely atrocious imo.

i remember buying their live album, i think it was "Exit Stage Left".  I have to agree about Lee's vocals...I was like "what the hell is he trying to do"?

In more recent albums, his vocals have smoothed out a nicely.

As for the OP, it's a bit like comparing apples to oranges.  Zep is who Zep is because of the time they came out, the bands around them, and just the whole environment.  We may see a band hit it bigger than Zep (quite a few have sold more records than Zep or sold more tickets) but the question is simply too subjective to be answered accuratley, IMHO.

Have you heard about the Japan shows they did ??

if you haven't, go to YouTube immediately and watch.

DEF!  If you haven't, you owe it to yourself.  there were some amazing shows and Page was on fire.  Coverdale was very good, I know he gets a bum rap in some corners, but he was very good and really trying to be his own man and not mimic Plant.

  4. Wow, Tribal is freakin amazing!

When I want something quiet with a lot of atmosphere and texture, I reach for Mark Knopfler.  When I want something that just f**kin kicks you in the balls, I often reach for Beck.  Gotta love the dude!  Big Block still my fave of all time from him, though.

Where has the new content button gone, that is the way I have viewed the forum for a long time now. I liked viewing forum content as it rolled the "new" unread content button is not the same thing.  I know the forum has been ever evolving over the past eight years but this is one change I don't like.

Agreed.  These new changes are awful, yet I will get used to them.  For now, a closer look to the "New Content" we loved, is to go to Unread Content.  Then just under RSS, you will see two little icons.  Click the one on the right, it is a condensed view.  Not perfect, but it is a little better IMHO.

  6. I remember some publication at the time of ARMS said (paraphrasing from memory) "there was a hint of discord between Clapton who overcame a very public addiction to Cocaine, and Page about whom such a thing has never been said".  I doubt if that was it, really.  At ARMS they all appeared to be happy, Clapton serving as sort of the MC and introducer.  It was good to just see Page and realize he was still capable of playing.

  7. If there was any level of friendship at all, surely Clapton would have invited Page to perform at one of his Crossroads festivals. Clapton's had bloody every other guitarist on there. I'm sure Page would have been happy to sit in on a few blues numbers and it would have boosted ticket sales. I think it's a mixture of they don't get on and Clapton doesn't rate Jimbo's playing anymore.

It could also be that the invite is there, but Page simply doesn't have it in him to go do a set at Crossroads.

  8. I can't tell you how useful FB is in law enforcement.  You tell us your kids names, where they go to school (pics of them in school jerseys or likes of their school).  You tell us your pets, when you are on vacation, your birthdate, your spouse and all your friends.  Some of you show us your car, your house, your latest great thing in your house, etc.  You tell us your fave movies, songs, books, etc.  Real easy to build a psychological profile with all this, and no subpoena needed, you give it willingly!

extremely useful for law breaking people too.  Great, I know where you live, and you're on vacation for two weeks....nice, thanks!

i have two, both VERY fictional, that I use for research and general trolling activities.

Frankly, I am stunned how much real personal info people put on FB.

  9. Thousands and thousands of hours of daily practice. Something Jimmy Page used to do but hasn't since about 1975, I reckon.

What is striking is that EVH is just ten years younger.  I can't imagine Page playing with such abandon ten years ago.  Of course, would EVH be playing like this if he had to go the solo route or form a new band?  He's majorly blessed that he has his band, his brother, and his son all together for this.  Oh yeah, and he has Roth, but he tries not to think too much about that...
