  1. THE ZOMBIES, at the Robin 2 last night. Featuring of course, the still great vocals of Colin Blunstone, and still dynamic keyboard of Rod Argent, performing all of those time-tested songs from their collective and solo careers. Great night !
  2. ZZ TOP, last night at the Wolverhampton Civic. The boys still have it all, and the video screen displays were superb. What a stunning show - and the centre balcony seat was an added bonus.
  3. CURVED AIR, at the Robin club on Saturday. Sonja still has the voice and all of the moves - absolutely bewitching.
  4. well its just after midnight here, and I've just got back from another 'old time' rock'n roll gig, at the Robin 2 club in Bilston, featuring RICKY COOL AND THE HOOLA BOOLA BOYS, ably supported by Cracker and the woodpeckers. great night out ! there I am, in the town I grew up in, I'm having a pint or two of the local brew and watching a master class in old style (blue suede if you prefer) rock n roll - what could be better. And then I turn around and who else is at the bar, having a quiet sip and a boogie, well damn me if it isn't Mr.Plant. Looking very well, and enjoying a night off. hope to see you in your proffessional capacity soon sir !
  5. that was a truly memorable gig for so many reasons On Friday, Mo's cover of Big Log was excellent.
  6. THE HUB - last night at Whitmore Reans Cons Club, Wolverhampton. A Mark Stanway promotion, featuring 2 sets of blues classics. Mark Stanway (keyboard) Mo Birch (vocals/percussion) Robbie Blunt (Guitar) Marc Michalski (vocals/bass) Gwyn Ashton (vocals/guitar) Kev Hickman (drums) Not at all bad for 8 quid.
  7. here is the website for the venue ..... http://www.therobin.co.uk/ as for Jon's future , based on what we all saw he has more than just the option of his (old ?) band, let's put it that way.
  8. THUNDER ! " 20 years and out " tour. a packed out Wolverhampton Civic last night bad a fond farewell to this vastly under-rated band, who finish today. They came out to the rousing chorus of AC//DCs 'Thunderstruck' - had the house rocking from that moment on. Then, straight into 'Backstreet Symphony', and just kept it going. A truly great gig which will live in the memory, and climaxed with 'Dirty Love' - everybody on the balcony out of their seats at that point in a huge tidal wave of emotion. Thanks for the memories guys - and the very best of luck in all of your future plans
  9. You were there ... ??? !!! I might have known ! (well, SOMEBODY kept ignoring , - sorry, 'forgetting' those camera warnings, eh ? ) and yes, its always an oven in there during summer !
  10. JON ANDERSON , last night at the Robin 2 , Bilston. this was special 2 sets and 2 encores. And you would never have known that Jon was coming back from illness. He hit all of the notes, even the high ones, powerfully and with ease, no strain at all. Great backing from the audience, in fact maybe a little too much at times - a real singalong, but Jon absolutely loved it, encouraging the audience, and chipping in with the odd joke and a story here and there. The fans getting into 'Roundabout' (during the 1st encore) was an experience to behold.
  11. UFO + Toxic Federation, last night at the Wulfrun, Wolverhampton.
  12. MIKE SANCHEZ AND THE PORTIONS , at the Robin club last night. Usual high energy performance from Mike and the band, who will be touring Germany and Switzerland next week. Any of our members who are in those localities could do a lot worse than go along and see how early rock n roll should be done
  13. indeed, the ancient pagans of northern Europe celebrated their god Mithras on December 25th. they celebrated their winter solstice festivals by decorating their trees with food, magic runes and other items symbolic of their beliefs. And they cemented their friendships by giving each other gifts. some time later, the Christian Church came along and persecuted such ways of life. Thus, the pagans were forced to take their trees, and other rituals indoors - traditions which of course most of us continue and enjoy to this day.

  20. well now, where to start. just got back from tonight's gig - it was Ricky Cool, a night of celebration, from The Robin 2 club, Bilston. Ricky, thanks for putting this show together, you are a star. Great performances on harmonica, sax and vocals. And very well supported by your local chums I might add, let's give them ALL a mention - Mike Sanchez, Ian Jennings, Andy Silvester, John Spinetto, Jim Hickman, Ernie Chattaway, Kev O'Neil and Keith Evans. Yes, these boys can really play, and did you proud. And there was one other ...... not mentioned on the bill, but I tell you this man is talented. His name is Robert Anthony Plant, and does he sing a great Rock and Roll song. In fact, Mr Page, if you require a vocalist, give this fellow a tryout. (A few people behind me tell me the footage will be on YouTube tomorrow - if so, judge for yourself). Great night Ricky, you are a local legend ... oh, and Robert is STILL God It's just after midnight, I'm off to bed, night all, sweet dreams...
  21. a celebration night of Ricky Cool featuring Ricky's line-ups and pals including The Hoola-Boola Boys, The Rialtos and The Big Town Playboys. this Thursday, 6th November at the Robin 2, Bilston.
  22. MOTORHEAD + SAXON + Danko Jones Monday 3rd November , Civic Hall Wolverhampton
  23. Steve Gibbons Band (Saturday 18/Oct, Whitmore Reans Cons, Wolverhampton) Scorpions (Sunday 19/Oct, Civic Hall Wolverhampton)
  24. Ginger baker must be an iron man - to be hit with a rock, and not to roll. I wonder if it was Roy who snuk back into the audience and pelted him with that, BTW
