  1. Bad, Chillumpufer, bad! I had to venture into the badlands of Nottinghamshire this morning and when I got to the site, the council bloke failed to show up with the keys - so I had to scale a 6ft brick wall and hack through a site full of 5ft brambles. In 23-degree heat, goddammit! I hates me the tropical South!

So, how'd y'all drown your sorrows then? Beer, whiskey, or wine?

No sorrows, Strider, so none of the above. I didn't even watch it - don't have the vaguest interest in football.

  3. Condolences to everyone who got their hopes up. The little kids next door were gutted. But this is England and football, after all - they had to learn sometime, poor little sods!

  4. Winning because of an own goal and a fake penalty? Where's the glory in that?
Eh? What do you mean, do I hate football and am I just shitposting as a wind-up?
    😇

  5. Look, our own history shows clearly what happens when technologically advanced cultures encounter less technologically advanced cultures - massive culture shock and destabilisation. If an alien race wanted to study humans, the last thing they'd do is make contact - because doing so would fundamentally alter the very thing they wanted to study. They'd simply observe. If there was an alien race with bad intentions? We'd be slaves or food within weeks. Be careful what you wish for.

  6. He's a Tory MP,  he probably genuinely believes that 'important' people are genetically superior to us plebs. The Tories recently voted that animals weren't sentient creatures and couldn't feel emotion or pain - that's the depth of the blank ignorance you're dealing with here.

  7. In 2028, it'll be 100 years since the UK made dope illegal. That's 'dope' in the UK sense, ie. cannabis.
I reckon the 100th anniversary will be when the govt just goes 'fuck it' and legalises it.
Cue the return of the contact headaches I used to get several times a week just from walking past 10-year-old kids smoking it in the street after Blunkett downgraded it in the 00s...

  8. I did a report on the Old Courthouse in Buxton a couple of years back - it was being converted and Derbyshire planning archaeologists took the opportunity to have some work done to find out if the carved stone heads on the outside of the building were 'Celtic' heads and, if so, where and when they were originally found. Turns out they were fixed into the wall sometime between a photo taken in 1965 and one taken in 1974 and they don't remotely resemble ancient Celtic carved heads either. Ah, well! Buxton's probably the site of Aqua Arnemetiae, where there were Roman baths like the ones at Bath. Arnemetiae was a British tribal water deity in the Iron Age. I can see why Robert would like the place. There's nothing left of the Roman baths - any remains were probably destroyed when the Crescent was built to turn the place into a Georgian spa town. Anyhow, much better than all that - the last time I was in Buxton, there was a continental food market on and two girls were walking toward me, each having a gobful of whatever the other had bought - and being a suave, sophisticated type, I nudged the lass I was with, pointed to the two girls and said out loud: 'Look - women feeding women!'
