  1. Hi gibsonfan159.

A request! Now that we have the source merge and upgrade of New York, June 8th 1977 on Led Zeppelin Boots' YouTube channel, would you be willing to do a review of the show? He's done a superb job and it now sounds as good as the other nights. Performance-wise, it might be even as consistently enjoyable as the 13th. I'd love to know what you think.

Oh, and thank you for introducing the term 'turkey gobbling' into my guitar playing vocabulary. It never fails to produce an involuntary hearty guffaw from my personage!

  2. Well, I love the }{eywood version (and told him so!) but I do think I've improved upon it. He didn't tackle the timing errors or use the most complete versions of the songs and that's what lead me to do this version. I've cleaned up a few other things too.

However, I do completely acknowledge his amazing work. I've loved listening to it for years. Just a few bits that I thought I could tidy up.

    Hope you enjoy it!

  3. I've just posted an improved edit + remaster of The Song Remains The Same

Just type "Guitars101 Led Zeppelin 1973 MSG Live The Song Remains The Same Re-edit V2" into Google and you should find it easily enough or message me for a link.

I've made a few improvements to it since my original post last year based on suggestions from people here at the Official Forum. My aim was to create the ultimate version with all the problems from the 2007 fixed - basically, how I wish it had been presented for the 2018 reissue. Hopefully, I've finally achieved that! Brief summary of changes made:

    - All weird timing issues involving dropped beats have been fixed in Since I've Been Loving You, Dazed And Confused, Heartbreaker and Whole Lotta Love (see Eddie Edwards' Garden Tapes website for further details).

    - The best version of each song has been chosen from the different releases (1976 original release, 2007 re-release, 2003 DVD Boxed Set + the best bootleg source for Thank You).

    - EQ discrepancies between the sources ironed out.

    - 2cd set turned into a 3cd set to accommodate the encores in their rightful place.

    Here's a more detailed break-down of what I've done:

    CD1
01-Rock And Roll (2007 version as more vocal flubs have been corrected here)
02-Celebration Day (1976 version due to its superior guitar solo)
03-Black Dog (2003 DVD version as it's complete with all the verses)
04-Over The Hills And Far Away (2007)
    05-Misty Mountain Hop (2007)
06-Since I’ve Been Loving You (2007 version, but I've fixed the odd edit which removed a beat just before the 2 minute mark)
07-No Quarter (1976 version, one of the greatest band performances of all time)
08-The Song Remains The Same (1976 version which includes more Plant ad-libs)
09-The Rain Song (2007 version due to its gorgeous treatment of the vocals)

    CD2
01-Dazed And Confused (2007 version, but I've fixed the timing issues at 4 mins and at 23 mins)
02-Stairway To Heaven (1976 version due to more Plant ad-libs)

    CD3
01-Moby Dick (1976 version due to better edits)
02-Heartbreaker - Whole Lotta Love (2007 version Heartbreaker, but I've restored the missing beat in the drum transition into Whole Lotta Love + I've edited together the 2007/1976 versions of Whole Lotta Love to include the longer Crunge section)
03-The Ocean (2007 but in its rightful place as the encore)
04-Organ Solo - Thank You (best sounding bootleg source used - I've cleaned up a few flubs in the Organ Solo)

The alt. edit film version of No Quarter is also at the end of disc 3 as a bonus track.

    Enjoy!

I have also done a re-edit of the concert with a more extensive approach to re-arranging the footage to match the audio and fixing any weird anomalies and timing errors and adding on some different musical passages. If you'd be interested in this, send me a DM.

And also quick question: is this the version you posted that you were starting work on back in 2014? I remember you had ideas about how you were going to fill the No Quarter void and a few gaps caused by backstage, dream or Shepperton sequences.

Would love to see the final version of that project!

  5. Sent you a PM with a link to the Eckoes Re-edit DVD of The Song Remains The Same which is closest we'll ever get to what you're looking for. The guy's done a great professional looking job sequencing the songs in the correct order and included all the available missing songs from the 2003 DVD set. Very enjoyable, superbly edited and the only version I now watch.

    Enjoy!

  6. Well, good luck with that project! It sounds very interesting and I would greatly appreciate you sharing the results. Feel free to download as much as you like from my cloud drive. The sources I've uploaded are the ones that I think are the best quality version of each show. Been collecting for over 25 years and heard all the shows. I can PM you a link to the cloud drive if you need it.

    All the best!

  7. I've sent you a PM with a link to a DVD version with the best performances from the 2 shows edited together to make a complete show.

Great picture and sound. This is what I wish Jimmy would release! See what you think.

    Enjoy!

  8. Just uploaded a re-edited DVD of the Earls Court shows on Guitars101.

Just type "Led Zeppelin Best of Earls Court 75 DVD re-edit guitars101" into Google or PM me for a link.

There's also an mp4 version if you prefer.

Both DVD and mp4 versions now work great on VLC media player.
All sync issues that cropped up in my first version when played on a computer should now be fixed.
I've selected the best performance of each song from the 24th/25th May shows that circulate.
    Improvements include:

    - a better audio mix of the opening numbers that's more sympathetic to Plant's voice (which always took a few songs to warm up in 1975);
    - I've smoothed out the edits which make a complete Going to California and That's The Way;
    - you can finally hear the backing vocals in Tangerine which I've boosted using the night of the 18th;
    - no official footage from the Led Zeppelin DVD has been used
    - a few of the vocal flubs have been fixed so it's closer to what an official release could sound like.

    Enjoy!

  9. Many thanks for your help. I have the 4 source folder from Zoso.me but there is nothing more in Weedwacker's set from the higher quality source I mentioned above.

I think what's really strange is just how short the source is (3 mins) which makes me wonder why EV didn't use more of it and why Scorpio didn't use any of it.

  10. Here's a mystery that I hope someone can unravel.

L.A. Forum 22nd June 1977 - an amazing show, I'm sure you'd agree, but unfortunately the worst sounding of all the Forum recordings from '77.

Now I've always considered Scorpio's Second Night At The Forum release as the best sounding and I still do. However, when EV released Thirty Years Gone (which was far more overloaded and hissy) they managed to obtain a source for the first 3 mins of No Quarter that was better than any other source from any other version of this show.

Does anyone have any info on where it came from and whether there is any more of it? It seems to be a whole new source and to have the entire show in this quality would completely transform our appreciation of this show.

Anyone have any words of wisdom on this?
