  1. It's actually really interesting to watch the 2 series close together; I had to re-watch season 1 of the West Wing as sort of a cleanse after I finished House of Cards because HOC was so slimy (good, but slimy!)

WW is optimistic; it's about patriotism and duty and governing; the characters are moral and deeply affected by the work they do. It's a very different interpretation of US politics.

(BTW, the original British House of Cards was also very good; that's on Netflix too!)

Oh yes, I was planning to watch that too, thanks for reminding me! :)

  2. Good call, Chuck! "Jaws" is one of those movies that's even better in a theatre with a crowd. I still remember the first time I saw "Jaws" in 1975...what a rush!

    Hi, Strider. :)

The first time I saw 'Jaws' was its UK TV premiere in 1981 when I was 10. They let us home early from cubs to watch it. The next day at school my teacher asked, "Everybody who watched 'Jaws' last night, put your hand up." Out of a class of about 25 - 30 kids, just one person didn't raise their hand. The TV audience was 23.3 million out of a population at the time of 56.3 million.

Amazing times before most people owned a VCR and we only had three channels back then!

  3. ^ ^ Thanks for the suggestion; that looks good!

In honor of this week's news I wanted to share a clip from The West Wing that was from 1999; I'm going to have to break down and buy my own set of DVDs; this is truly the best series ever (currently streaming on Netflix!):

I've never watched 'The West Wing'. I might give it a go when I've finished 'House of Cards'.

I put off watching 'The Shield' for a long time and couldn't believe how good it was when I got round to it. It's full of shocks and surprises.

  4. One that doesn't seem to get talked about much is 'The Shield'.

This show about corrupt cops is right up there with the likes of 'The Wire', 'The Sopranos' and 'Breaking Bad' for me.

I'm currently watching it again for the 3rd time. Give it a go, it gets better and better with every season.

  5. Halloween IV. Donald Pleasance I always liked. Ever since the Great Escape. He was a good actor. I think that may have been the last one he was in but I could be wrong.

He was in 5 and 6 as well.

My favourite role of his is in "Wake in Fright", an Australian film where he plays a very convincing Australian drunk.

  6. "Wake in Fright" (1971)

One of the best films I've seen for years and years. I watched it on youtube first. It impressed me so much, I bought the blu-ray to see it in all of its glory - it was definitely worth it.

  7. Thoroughly great. We have just watched the whole of the first series. Kept us guessing right to the end. Which one are you watching Walt? This was Anne Birk Larsson murder.

    What do you mean "resolution"?

I believe it was re made for US audiences because the subtitles? Ours was in Danish with subs but it didn't detract from the superb series. Only thing was you really had to focus and it wasn't best watched stoned. Lund was particularly fit though and it was hard to watch her and read at the same time ;)

Will watch another one soon. Maybe in the Winter time when the darkness fits it

Please check out the original Version of The Bridge. A Denmark / Sweden co-production, easily as good as The Killing. It was remade in the UK and France as The Tunnel, but wasn't as good.

The female lead, Sofia Helin is amazing!

  8. Thanks Ady. I had a feeling that couldn't have been the end. I just ordered them on Netflix.

You're welcome. It would've been cruel on viewers had it ended there! :)

  9. Was the very last scene where Hank was on the toilet looking at the Walt Whitman book?

No, there's eight more episodes after that. The next episode is an absolute corker.

  10. ^^Very sad news indeed, he was fantastic in The Long Good Friday. RIP Bob Hoskins.

    Indeed.

If anyone hasn't seen The Long Good Friday, don't watch this great final scene if you plan on watching it!

  11. I've seen the Danish version of "The Killing". Superb. The Danish make great crime dramas. "The Bridge" is another one which also has an American remake. Over here It's been remade as "The Tunnel".
